    It's a nice body and core. It's just the pinning that's terrible. Replace one of those standards with a spool and another with a pin-in-pin, and it would thwart most amateurs. Pretty nice base lock for a security conversion!

    • @underourrock
      @underourrock 5 лет назад +4

      He did a followup video where the ramset opened up the lock (blew out its guts) with one hit to a weak spot. I agree that this lock is good overall, but alas and alack, it looks like all locks have short comings one way or another. An ASSA Twin core could be an improvement as well, but with the ease of hitting it in the weak spot dumping the bottom right out of the lock, it would need more protection. I do wonder what padlock lock would be better than this one.

    I bought this lock on Amazon after reading some stellar reviews only for it to fail to open after 4 months of indoor use. I kept it well oiled and everything. Had to call a locksmith who not surprisingly enough opted to go for the clasp after a few tries with the padlock. It's a great lock but beware. Now am just sitted here with a closed lock that won't open all the way..

    There's a RUclips channel called Brute4rce. He made 2 cuts in the Stanley shackle in about 15 seconds with a $30 set of Harbor Freight bolt cutters. So much for that.....eh?

  • @g.davies1365
    @g.davies1365 5 лет назад

    I pinned up one of these for a friend to match his Schlage house key. I had to remove the keyway anti-drill plate and grind the opening in the cylinder retainer larger to accept the shoulder stop of the genuine Schlage key. The shoulder arrangement on the Stanley key is set up to bypass the anti-drill plate, whereas the Schlage key is not. Stanley is deceptive in their advertising stating that these can be keyed to SC1 keys.

    Seems like the two serrations and the countermining and the anti bump pin with it’s heavy spring might add up to it resists bumping and raking? I sort of wonder what that ASTM certification really means, since it doesn’t mean it takes 8 minutes to pick. But resists bumping and raking seems like a candidate.

  • @jdrissel
    @jdrissel 7 лет назад +4

    I thought that the security pins looked like they were tapered just a bit towards the center, kind of like a spool, but those parts never hit the shear line and therefor probably actually made it easier to pick. But 8 minutes pick resistance? It might take that long if the only tool allowed was paperclips. LoL

    By "anti-bump pin" do you mean that driver pin seemed to have an odd weight? Or are you just noting it as being paired with the stronger spring?

    • @Phred_Phlintstoner
      @Phred_Phlintstoner 7 лет назад +4

      Dave Joseph no. if you look at the top and bottom of the driver pin it has a slightly reduced diameter kind of like the shape of a soda can. by making it that shape it is supposed to make it catch there while trying to bump it. not sure how effective it really is but that is why it is called the anti bump pin.

    Is there a lock you couldn't get open no matter what you tried

  • @tree453
    @tree453 7 лет назад +1

    What makes that spring more powerful than the others? And what's it do exactly?

    • @adamevans4824
      @adamevans4824 7 лет назад +2

      The steel spring is much stronger than the brass springs. The stronger spring helps push the anti bump pin down faster and with more force to help it catch the shear line and hang up.

    • @HermitBlake
      @HermitBlake 7 лет назад +1

      A stiffer spring that takes more force to lift. It works against bumping because it means that the drivers will move upwards at different speeds, making it less likely to bump them all past the shear line simultaneously.

    • @tree453
      @tree453 7 лет назад

      So it's just less likely, but still possible? Seems like a neat little gimmick, but it would take, what, 15 more seconds of bumping?

    • @AaronSherman
      @AaronSherman 7 лет назад +1

      There's really no such thing as an impossible-to-bump lock, just stupidly improbable. Bumping is a bit like throwing a bunch of pennies up in the air and hoping they all come down heads. If you just have two pennies, it's pretty likely (25% actually) but if you have 100, you're going to be waiting a while.... (1/(2^100) is a VERY long while).

  • @sonicstep
    @sonicstep 4 года назад

    It has become apparent to me that all the locks I've seen you pick follow a typical method of basic construction in their operation.
    I'm no lock-smith nor lock picker, I'm just a curious casual observer. But I have to question, why are all the locks you pick apparently with their pins all inline similar to an inline cylinder engine. Why not a lock with pins that are radially offset at varying angles and distances?

    • @unintentionalprovocateur2158

    Not quite "Meth head with hairpins from bloody purse he found" approved, it obviously does take skill but seems a very straightforward pick.
    IMO 8 minutes of pick resistance is some Meth Head holding tension and raking raking raking with tools till it comes open.

      I have yet to see him show any lock he can't pick, except that one where the pins have a guard over them and the key has a notched out section. Don't worry about it though, if someone wants to get in they can get in. I can cut a square out of a door with a saw in about 1 minute, or slide a hack saw blade behind the latch and cut the screws.
