You guys should revisit this. They've fixed a lot of the issues people were complaining about in the latest update. Still a few features I'd like to see them add, and the Android app is still completely broken, but I'm overall very happy with mine.
I come here for the products, I come here for the laughs, I come here to hear Lee and Pete play, but when the video is over I find myself just wanting a purple guitar.
There's now a great looper in it with the new firmware, and the possibilty to change in real time the pedal presets with the upper button. Great product.
Would be *dramatically* better to have added a dedicated Board footswitch (2 for Up or Down) making it easy to double the # of 'pedals' so much more quickly. Pressing 3 times is kludgy & almost slow. Otherwise its great!
Yes, I thought the same thing. You can’t do any edit while on play mode. If they only do a small OS update on the play mode, letting you pre choose what control do you want to have on those knobs. Like one knob per fx will be enough. Same way you do when selecting an expression pedal.
Papo Camacho PopTweaker would be great if you could simply touch the relevant pedal (rather than press it) much like the HELIX to put it in a spontaneous edit mode.
I've been playing for years and still a noob with pedals. Always a guitar straight into an amp but lately I've been craving some color. When I research pedals I get confused for some reason since there's so much out there. I love this idea. It's not over complicated but easy enough for someone like me who just wants a few pedals.
I was a bit skeptical of this at first, but with the different boards and the 5 footswitches this would be really useful. Particularly when they add a tuner and a looper.
The must have features to include: Polytune and Ditto looper The desired next pedal/toneprints to develop: drive saturations algorithms to cover pretty much kind of boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz
Oh and I forgot, of course, Filter/EQ that would be similar to what Sonuus Wahoo does, so we could build pretty much any wah pedal and control it with the external expression pedal :)
And the “Wah Pedal” could even be build and release as a standalone product, based on pedal with integrate screen (such Snobel and Ernie ball Volumer tuner pedals); with midi in to be controlled by the Plethora x5 and therefore change effects per board, and with the screen we would always know what the expression pedal will do... wah for one board, changing parameters of a delay wet/dry on another board, etc... so many possibilities
For once the Captain has saved me money...as his observation/criticism that the individual effects are not tweakable on the fly has convinced me I don't need to think about trading in all my individual TC pedals for this. Thank you!
Good point...but...you could set up several boards to look identical but have one pedal change to different settings, eg on board 1 have slapback delay and board 2 a longer delay, but all the same pedals. Therefore, kind of like changing on the fly. It's actually a perk over the way it needs done live otherwise.
I really really really want a Plethora X10 (or G-System mkII based on Plethora) with 2 rows of 6 switches to have 10 simultaneous effects with 5 external loops for more external effects and/or multiple amps setup such Dry/Wet, or Wet/Dry/Wet setup, 2 expression pedals, CV Outs to control amps, onboard multitrack looper, tuner, drive, filter/eq and wah. I know, it would surely cost the price of two Plethora x5, but it would be perfect since it would replace a switcher (such ES8 or GigRig), a looper, a tuner, and of course all effects I would generally use from HX Effect, H9 Max, Toneprints pedals, Strymon, etc... all in a small format and very easy to use UI. I’ve used and liked the G-System a lot in the past, but I stopped using it because of the new effects from Line 6, Strymon, etc... So yeah, a Plethora x10 or G-System mkII would be perfect!
The price of this is like buying each pedal for $100. Which is what common pedals go for these days- unless you buy used. Also, there won’t be much need or clutter of more patch cables and other things to bring to gigs etc. Of course you’d still have to bring other pedals like ODs, but this really minimizes having to lug around various things. It’s cool that you can also have a ton of presets on which pedals to have so you can toggle between them in between sets. Really cool. Win win.
I fell off the guitar wagon ca 1978 and have just recently tried to e get into it again (for he purpose of noodling my way through my golden years). A few things have changes, to say the least. Half the time I'm not even sure how these devices are supposed to be be used (beyond the obvious of manipulating sounds). The only pedals I've ever owned were a fuzz box and a wah-wah. I've got a lot to catch up on. Practicing my instrument should probably be first priority rather than looking at fancy gear.
If you were planning to build a pedalboard by buying a Flashback 2, a HOF 2, maybe a compressor and a tuner, you’re not too far away from the price of a Plethora after all. But then, you can have way more flexibilities, change order easily and change toneprints for each song, etc... I definitely love that!
The only thing that would stop me from getting the Plethora right now is that I am the kind of guitarist who likes to have a lot of control over individual pedals at any given time. For example, I know the Plethora has a Flashback II pretty much built in but after using my Flashback X4, I can't imagine not having all the controls that it offers right at my feet. If I want to change something, I need only hit the right switch or quickly lean down and turn a knob somewhere. With the Plethora, a lot of the stuff that would take half a second turning a knob would take a lot longer since you would have to go through some menus. This seems like the kind of thing you get to fill the gaps in your existing effects ecosystem. I would get this pedal but I would really only use it for the kinds of effects that I am not so keen to buy individually since I would not use them as much as the effects I have already. For that kind of thing, the slightly less convenient controls would not be a issue.
Michael Holmes From what I’ve seen, you don’t have to go through any menu, you just touch the switch and adjust the parameters across all knobs (which are more than what you generally have on a single pedal), and you have by default one knob per pedal already accessible with any other action. So it’s not really different from the individual pedals. And if it’s not what you want, I believe you can adjust the layout for the performance. I would need to check the manual to confirm it (when I could download it), but if we can’t it’s just a matter of software update anyway. Other brand such Line6 does it if I recall correctly, so overall, I really don’t see it as an issue. Just check more videos about the Plethora x5, you’ll see, you don’t have to dig into any menu at all once you have set what pedal (toneprints) you want to use for your board. The menu are only to pick the kind of effect (pedal) and algorithms (toneprints) you want to use, but after that, you can have all parameters on knobs across the whole device.
Probably one of the most interesting new products. I love it when you guys are genuinely impressed, like when you both tried the Katana headphones. Great idea TC electronic, Leave the end results in your own hands. Make it a board of your own design.....nice. Kind of reminds me of the effects section on the new Katana MK2 head, swappable Boss effects, virtual board. Finally companies are making great useful products. Kudos. You guys must let us know of the price as soon as it is released.
Billions of pedals and ol nik from ceriatone gets his centaur on the map, hey captain an interview with epic amp clone designer nik from ceriatone would be great,
I've had the pleasure of visiting Niks workshop a handful of times. Brilliant place and Nik is awesome. Certainly an interview with Nik would be insightful and awesome! Captain, if you would like to make that a reality please do!
Nik first is the best customer service in the business, always ready to help, and with repair advice and will help you with any mods you are wanting, it’s all there, plus his kits are fantastic, with top components, and yep he sold me on his transformers, all good,
Very well thought-through. I like the fact that it assumes "FX Loop ON" in all patches, 'cos you can always quickly tap your dirt pedal or whataver. I'd like to see the MIDI functions delved into a little more, to see what it can control, or be controlled by. At this price, it's a bit of a no-brainer, as some delays cost £299. Damn you Andertons, ANOTHER thing on my list.......
Given that TCs last multieffects offering (The Nova System), had really nice analog overdrive and distortion, this is a bit of a let down...Nova Mark two would be nice.
I can see the logic behind this.... drives are so specific to personal taste and the amp you're using them with, it's very likely that most users would be incorporating their own anyway. Building a TS and a basic distortion into the pedal would be likely to be insufficient for a large portion of users anyway (like myself). So I'd rather have a device that focuses only on the stuff I'd put in my amp's loop and does it really well.
I have 4 of the original stereo TC pedals that are in this and I have them chained to the output of my Sequential Prophet Rev 2 synth and they sound really good. This looks like and even bigger, better solution especially with the patch bank part as I have to manually change everything on the original pedals if I wanted something different overall. Excellent
@Robert CowieI do not share that opinion,... TC pedals still sound good, but they are just as unreliable as any other Behringer junk nowadays. My experience with Behringer products over the past twenty years or so is that their products have a 50% chance of failing within the first few months, but if they make it past that time-frame they will last a good while. I had one of their pedal tuners that lasted forever (a friend still has it) and I have a Bugera 1959 that is INSANE, other than that my experience with them has been nothing but negative, so I try to avoid their products. If you enjoy them, great,... but I am not a fan.
@@StillLivinginthewoods you have no idea what you're talking about lol. behringer made several pivots in the last 10 years and they're hipper and much more reliable than ever.
@@DroneCorpseI own and have owned plenty of their products, so I think I DO know exactly what I am talking about. If Behringer products are all one can afford, then yes, it's great that they are available,... but don't make them out to be some awesome stuff because they certainly are not. Try not to be so offended just because someone doesn't like the same things that you do.
did not know this until you mentioned it...and then I heard them point it out. that's very strange. i wonder if this can be reconfig'd on the software end...
Building your own pedalboard with a loop switcher seems to be set up right to left but it you use a modeller it is typically left to right. Left to right makes more sense to me with an expression pedal on the right, especially for a right handed player. A right handed player would normally need the input jack on the right hand side so the guitar cable is less likely to get in the way. If you use a wireless system, that need is basically null and void
Add a Ditto looper & Wiretap Riff Recorder to the Plethora X5 and then insert your own preamps & drives into the FX loop and you would basically have everything. Stereo power amp and stereo guitar speaker cabinet would complete the chain \m/ If you have several drive pedals or preamps maybe use something like the Morningstar Engineering ML5 loop switcher and control it via the Plethora X5 via midi. I forgot one important add on, you might need a tuner too, unless you can rely on a rock solid guitar with maybe a fixed bridge or Evertune which may be quite solid in that department. TC Electronic Polytune Clip on tuner may be fine though or a Peterson, Boss, Korg or Snark, etc. or a pedalboard wireless system with built in tuner from Shure or Sennheiser
Simpler devices like this one and the Fender Tone Masters are going to be big hits. I’m going to get one. The only feature I'd like to have seen is XLR. With the way it's designed now with unbalanced outputs, you'd need a separate DI box.
waiting to see when someone demo an expression pedal with it. One thing I did like about the Line6 modellers was that you could change all the parameters between the exp down and exp up (rather than just a single one) so with something like the Jet fuzz you could back off the drive, tweak the mids, increase your gain, all while upping both the feedback and phase rate... if this does that same sort of thing with the expression pedal this will be a "take my money" purchase
Looks a good upgrade to my nova system which is only two cable method and I wanna put phaser and chorus in front of amp and delay, verb compressor in the loop.
It will work with bass just as well as any other TC effects work with bass. There should be some good uses for bass, especially because bassists don’t get many good multi effect units
Oh, this is cool….. a modern digital multi fx designed to be worked like an old fashioned multi FX like the Old UE300, but with far more FX options to choose from….. and I love the old Ibanez unit that I still own. Oh heck…. That could be my new board. Looks like it would take some getting used to, but got to be better than the old Boss multi FX of a few years back.
YO! At 15:50 haha, that octave licks Peter.... loved it. I've got me a BOSS MS-3 and I almost see a competitive unit in Plethora. Mind the differences but similarities are many. The similar thing is the “second press” on a switch, on the MS-3 you can assign almost anything. You guys didn't mention it but one can obviously change what the Mesh effect will do... The price tag is higher for the Plethora though...
I had been considering buying a Hall of Fame 2, one of the Ditto pedals, and possibly another TC Electronics pedal...but now I'm just going to buy the Plethora X5!
Before you got that route, it might be a good idea to consider how much control you need over certain effects. For example, since the Plethora only allows one footswitch per effect, certain kinds of pedals might not be as easy/intuitive to use. Using the Ditto as a example, this board can easily model the standard issue Tiny Ditto but having owned one of those myself, you might find that you want a level of control only granted by one of the larger Ditto pedals (like the X2 or X4). For me, the plethora is appealing as a sort of "filler" board that lets me select some effects that I may not need to manipulate a lot while playing and may not want to buy individually. I would still keep my Flashback X4 plugged in and wouldn't use the Flashback on the Plethora because I need the level of control the Flashback X4 gives me.
@@startrekmike Valid points! For me, sometimes turning the effect on or off in time is hard enough! :p Usually, I'll painstakingly mess about with settings until I find the "right one", and then just keep the pedal at that setting. Although, maybe if there is a parameter that might need some adjusting, maybe that could get assigned to the Mash footswitch?
Maybe andertons should have watched the TC electronic video first. YOU CAN change the banks with a foot switch, you triple tap button 1 or 2 and then use those two switches to go up or down.
I'll wait for the mini How about a 2 switch pedal Switch 1 turns on a selected combination of effects and settings (A) and mash Switch 2 turns on/off a selected combination of effects and settings (B) and activates tap tempo f ex if you step on both pedals. Or a 3rd switch for tap tempo make it small, maybe by posing the switches in a downwards pointing triangle formation . . . It seems overkill to have 5 switches if the main idea is to switch between pedal combinations /boards that you have decided on in advance anyway 2 switches per bank for 2 different combinations of effects and a limited user selected parameters for each bank
Is there a way to configure a footswitch to be able to change the boards without having to bend down or having to triple hit the first knob? sometimes in the middle of the show it is uncomfortable and slow
Ive had mine for over one year now (2023) and the biggest issue i have is that when deep editing using my ipad or even my PC that either the app or the pedal itself will NOT save my changes...not sure why that is but that sucks.
Newbie Question: One "thing" Captain pointed out is that you can't just reach down and quickly tweak a setting live. As someone who is relatively new to all (guitar, etc.) this and trying to put together a more minimalist board, I like the idea of the Plethora as it contains so many possibilities in a small package. QUESTION: For those of you who play live, would the inability to quickly change a setting be more or less of an issue in your experience? Or do you find that once you nail the settings for a particular song, they pretty much stay that way (so you could make a "board" for any song that needs new effects)? Thanks!
Ransom Baggins it is not a deal breaker for me. I play live weekly and have only ever reached down too live change a pedal two or three times in the last year.
I've ordeded it especially with live playing in mind. now have a HoF2 and FB2 (tc electronic pedals) but would like tot user different reverbs and delays for different songs. To get the settings just right live would be a hassle if settings are greatly different. This pedal gives me nu same sounds and allows for the same settings every gig or reheursal.
I like the fact that it DIDN'T come with a volume pedal which means you can get one, like an Ernie Ball Volume pedal and "choose" to put it on the right OR the left side of the board! I always hated boards that have the volume only on the right side!
can theACan the stereo inputs be used to process two different signals? I play an 8-string Chapman NS Stick which has 2 sets of 4 strings each for processing individually.
You can switch boards by triple tapping switch 1 or 2, and then 1 goes up and 2 goes down :)
Very cool, thanks
Vote up this comment, since a lot of people will think it's not footswitchable otherwise. :)
Indeed. What Rasmus said!
Plus, you can assign the fx loop to off, or any position in the chain for each board. (in the settings menu).

Me too :-(
The display order backward from everything else on the pedalboard is an absolute dealbreaker.
Honestly - what were they thinking?
did not know this until you mentioned it...and then I heard them point it out. that's very strange. i wonder if this can be reconfig'd on the software end...
Richard Williams agree, but still kind of confused in my opinion.
I read you will be able to invert the order in a future update.
Im getting this. But they have got to assign 1 parameter to the buttons when its in play mode. Gain or volume. Must.
yeah i think that is essential!!!!
Thinking this is more for the player who already has amp/preamps/drive pedals I like it without.
Simpler devices like this one and the Fender Tone Masters are going to be big hits. I’m going to get one. The only feature I'd like to have seen is XLR. With the way it's designed now with unbalanced outputs, you'd need a separate DI box.
Line 6 HX Effects for the win. Lots more options, including overdrives and fuzz
Ya I'd still rather have my stomp. This is cool but not for me
Easy peasy super duper. I'm sold.
here in Malaysia "Ceria Tone" mean "happy tone"
waiting to see when someone demo an expression pedal with it.
Is the effects loop stereo?
Looks a good upgrade to my nova system which is only two cable method and I wanna put phaser and chorus in front of amp and delay, verb compressor in the loop.
Sold! I’ve got to have one. Looks like it’s going to be $500. Was hoping for less but I’m still getting it.
You have chosen wisely... Enjoy your new Pedalboard! 😉
@@andertons Love your vids!! Wish I was England so I could come hang out at the store! Keep em coming guys!
Great demo, both of you are jelling!
I think I had Plethorax back in the early seventies but she was worth it.
First things first: That is the most beautiful guitar ever!
secondly; will this pedal work with bass?
It will work with bass just as well as any other TC effects work with bass. There should be some good uses for bass, especially because bassists don’t get many good multi effect units
Looks awesome. If I were to get one for my Boss Katana, would I put it in front of amp or in the FX loop?
Oh, this is cool….. a modern digital multi fx designed to be worked like an old fashioned multi FX like the Old UE300, but with far more FX options to choose from….. and I love the old Ibanez unit that I still own.
Oh heck…. That could be my new board. Looks like it would take some getting used to, but got to be better than the old Boss multi FX of a few years back.
Great concept! Now a plethora x3 and I'm set with delay, reverb, and modulation. And yes no looper?!?! The Flashback has a looper!🤔😡
The text on screen said a looper update was coming in the near future 👍 At 7:20
@@Zeppelin180 oh thanks for catching that😆. I drifted when Pete couldn't believe there wasn't a looper.😄
I know it's not the flashiest thing in the world but that ascending lick at 0:51ish is tasty.
Guys please review GFI Synesthesia as you promised on the NAMM preview of it, it's best multi mod pedal out there, we need to see!
If it included the Vibe and phase pedals, I'd probably be sold. Hope they add them.
I think it is confirmed that they will add them.
Yup! Added firmware update 1.2 Dec 2020
It's been a year since the release of this video (which I happen to love, by the way), is it maybe possible to do a new one, but with bass?
I still use the Nova system, but this is tempting me.
That purple Centuria...will you stock it back??
These, electronics Plethora , how long the lifespan ?
I have been waiting for this one
seems to me that if you're building a fly rig or playing around with a bunch of bands, this would be a no brainer
What can you say about this device and line6 hx effects? What is the difference and what in your opinion is better?
How to.use it if you have 3 drives? How to set it up into a pedalboard?
This or another option for 2021? Looking for a multi fx unit to simplify my rig and sit the in fx loop of a Mesa mark v.
I had been considering buying a Hall of Fame 2, one of the Ditto pedals, and possibly another TC Electronics pedal...but now I'm just going to buy the Plethora X5!
Especially when there is a looper update on the horizon... 😉
@@andertons And being able to set the expression pedal as a volume pedal...
So are you limited to only 5 pedals used at a time?
How does MIDI work? Can the effect be used simultaneously as a controller?
will it work on my ACOUSTICO PEDALLBOARDO? :)
Maybe andertons should have watched the TC electronic video first. YOU CAN change the banks with a foot switch, you triple tap button 1 or 2 and then use those two switches to go up or down.
I'll wait for the mini
How about a 2 switch pedal
Switch 1 turns on a selected combination of effects and settings (A) and mash
Switch 2 turns on/off a selected combination of effects and settings (B) and activates tap tempo f ex if you step on both pedals. Or a 3rd switch for tap tempo make it small, maybe by posing the switches in a downwards pointing triangle formation
. .
.
It seems overkill to have 5 switches if the main idea is to switch between pedal combinations /boards that you have decided on in advance anyway
2 switches per bank for 2 different combinations of effects and a limited user selected parameters for each bank
I was bracing for a price sticker shock and am pleasantly surprised with the price.
cyrfung $499.00 in the US according to Sweetwater.
can you guys do a future video where you compare this with five TonePrint pedals to see the difference?
One computer versus six smaller computers? It's feckin' software!
When the update is out, we need to see a video with Pete using 5 Loopers at once.
Charming and informative -- thanks!
Can this be run as a dual mono unit? Can you assign certain pedals to one input and output and rest to other ins and outs?
Is there a way to configure a footswitch to be able to change the boards without having to bend down or having to triple hit the first knob? sometimes in the middle of the show it is uncomfortable and slow
how about an X3 in the near future??? :)
