Just wanted to stop by with a huge THANK YOU to those of you that have been digging my videos on this channel. It is life changing, honestly. Here's to a happy holiday season, looking forward to getting some new tunes up for you ;) See you on facebook. Peace!
Thank you! :) i found it on soundcloud! soundcloud.com/magmarine/mike-dawes-boogie-slam-outro?in=rebecca-todd-194331004/sets/new-playlist not sure if that will work or not!
After almost seven years I understood this piece. I was not able at the time it’s been released. It’s something special. It’s beautiful. Thank you, Mike!
This multidimensional style is a true 21st century acoustic guitar idiom now; started by Michael Hedges in the 80's and now there are a handful of masters around the world. And there are a LOT of (trying to think of a nice way to say this...) wankers. No mistake about it, Mike Dawes is the REAL DEAL. He has astounding technical chops, plus a real, living, breathing soul in every note. Absolutely world class. Brilliant!
As a Prog-metal guitarist or whatever the community is calling it, I really dig your sound keep up the sweet tunes. Man our generation is really producing some really great people.
I do not stand guitar players that go "I'm quitting after seeing this". As a musician myself, far from quitting this only makes me practise even harder. I mean, I sit and hear this and then it's like boom, now that I know that things like these are possible I'm taking my guitar playing next level.
Sal Zulli it's the same I did myself. I was only playing electric and been into a lot of shredding and tapping. Starting to play percussive once you get that it's the best thing you could possibly do. Go ahead 💪💪
if you don't like this, you're suffering from shear jealousy. or have an extremely narrow minded taste in music, every song i've ever heard mike dawes play has blown me away. so much goes into his music, much respect. from one person and guitarist to another.
The final build up is so beautiful and pure that I wonder : Can someone create something that gentle and yet be a bad person ? I mean, after listening to this song, I would let him take care of my kids...
I once saw Toulouse Engelhardt, beautiful 12-string instrumental music. He then proceeded on a tirade about how his cat was a whore..... I wish he had just played guitar!
Charles Manson was a very talented guitar player himself, look up "look at your game girl". Unfortunately for him he could not get into the music industry and became the infamous sociopath we know today. So yes you can still play such fantastic and heart warming music and be a horrific individual at the same time
I hope when people watch this, that they can see past the virtuosity (which is in abundance) and hear just how honest this is. Dude is playing what’s in his heart. Unbelievable.
I've been playing guitar and listening to guitarists for 25 years, but this guy completely blows me away! Can't comprehend his creativity and innovation. Hats off, thumbs up, mind blown and every other thing...
I don't believe I have to explain this but no, not for one song, but for the ability, technique and expertise he has gained and utilized it to write and play such technically demanding guitar pieces.
Geez. This. This makes me wanna dance in a prairie somewhere. Or just plain dance. The very sound of a breezy spring/summer afternoon. Magic hour. Makes you glad you're alive you know.
WOW great minds think alike! When I heard this I SERIOUSLY thought this reminded me of a good Spring/Summer Jam! This dude is seriously SUCH a beast of the getterfiddle. I've been playing for 16 or so years and I'm pretty fuckin decent but this guy is GREAT at drifting!
One phrase I used a lot back in the Woodstock years, was "far out " . I guess it has become obsolete so I'll just say awesome and filled with so many different touches and nuances I just keep watching it on and on ! Mike Dawes, you're very gifted and your music is so great ! Thank you for sharing these deep emotions with us !
I think Scarlet hit the nail on the head, if you didn't like this you either don't like music period or you are tone deaf. I think that Mike is a brilliant musician. Keep up the good work and ignore the haters
What you've said at the begin is true. And there is no talent in this world that can overcome dedication and practice. But talent exists man, it's a natural thing, some ppl are better doing some things, some others are better doing other things.
You guys forget at one important thing. One thing is be able to play it, and another composed it:). His musical imagination is amazing, and that is something what you canť practise.
Mike I found you via Mike Palmisano playing Jump. Mike P is as solid as an human being I have encountered on the web and for HIM to say what said and for the first time that I've see he barely played a single note listening to you. When ca we see an M&M show. You rock, love your energy and your space.
No one ever said that guitar playing was "only possible for the already famous or wealthy." It is only the fact that you decide to point out something that's quite obvious in such a confident manner that it leads us to believe that you must have a VERY progressive, completely unique sort of musicianship. Now come one, show us how original you can be Mr. half-a-million-songs.
I taught this to my 14yr old bro. . . I BELIEVE IN YOU!!! Push yourself, If you learn a song thats harder than youre used to then everything youve been doing before is easier.
xxdrew333xxx This is why after watching dudes play like this I still love watching John Fahey play!!! Soul, fullness, and brilliant compositional ability.
I think the hardest part is not playing, but pass on some thoughts, and some people do it. Liked the music and appreciate this dedication to life, i think some people are born to be great.
+Fernando Cano G. Assuming he achieved it on the spot (though he is amazing, it would take a lot of merit out if he edited it in), the only thing in this current rig (you get a somewhat decent view at 3:06) that seems to be able to achieve it is the ND-1 Nova Delay by TC Electronic, using the reverse setting timed with the tap tempo feature and no feedback. Hope this helps!
+David Cardona There's bits of reverb blast on the occasional last chord in a bar here and there. I reckon it's post edit. But it's fucking worth it. Have you checked out Impossible 2.0 by mike?
and this is why people say music is the most transcendental kind of art. just perfect. it's unchangeable. p.s.: I've never seen a live version of this song. does anybody know why?
This is by far my favorite song from him, so I asked him in person this same question when he last came through Florida. He said that its just a really hard song and the fade out into the outro is very difficult to sound smooth live and not have a chopped bit make its way into the beginning of the loop.
Usually I'm not into all the tapping and stuff. A lot of artists often use it to make the guitar look and sound overly complex, while also filling the song with tons of noise just because they can. Sure, it looks impressive, but only a few artists can make those sounds meaningful. Mike Dawes does that for me. This composition also shows that he's not just all about fancy fingerdancing tricks by contrasting those fancy maneuvers with "regular" playing. Great job, Mike!
Thank you Mike Dawes. I spent this whole day mixing down a track I wrote, and after finally getting tired of hearing it a million times, I stumbled upon this vid. Your work makes me humble, shuts my mind off, and is so refreshing. This track is one of my favs.
I always thought music was about delivering a message, a certain feeling, and not about inventing new techniques or being creative in which techniques you use. Mike might not be the first to use this style of playing, but he is the first one to deliver this particular message. That's what music is about, that's the only thing that actually matters.
I wonder the same thing - artists like him are incredibly gifted to find these kind of tunings, let alone make the composition. This is something I could never do, I'm a player. Not a writer. Heh.
When he was featured on a tv show they asked him the same question. Mike replied that while he's writing a song he often finds him self trying to hit a note that just can't be reached or fit with the other notes, so he has to redo the whole tuning and rewrite a lot of the songs. So yes, definitely trial and error.
I saw him interviewed and he said that if you're not prepared to abandon an entire arrangement halfway through, retune the guitar and start from scratch then this style might not be for you if you're looking to learn new guitar techniques. It says a lot about the amount of time, effort and practice he puts into his arrangements!
That music that can change the world.. Sir, i salute you for this video.. Its music that brings a smile in people , and "peace begins with a smile" - John Lennon :)
if u say "nothing about this is metal" then u must have never truly listened to metal, u just think metal is all about distortion and screaming don't u?
You are so right, Dylan! I can't believe kids now days. They just can't sit back and appreciate music for what it is for...not to nonchalantly comment about it but just enjoy the candy for what your ears have just received.
Senseless clichés??? In my opinion this gentleman is not playing senseless clichés. You are free to dislike if that's your opinion. But when talking clichés remember that "good ole rock n roll" is built on musical clichés and repetition. That doesn't make rock n' roll bad. It is the energy and creativity that a musician brings to the piece that can turn what you call a senseless cliché into something new, fresh and exciting. Keep an open ear!
Congratulations on making magic! Lovely marriage of sound and vision...the ecstatic beauty is truly appreciated over here in the States....Shine on brightly.
OMG... That was glorious. Unbelievable skill, amazing tone, a metal feel to an acoustic, and smooth all the way through. Absolutely flawless! This video should have millions of views. Millions!
2023 almost 2024 and I'm still here for this.
Just wanted to stop by with a huge THANK YOU to those of you that have been digging my videos on this channel. It is life changing, honestly.
Here's to a happy holiday season, looking forward to getting some new tunes up for you ;)
See you on facebook.
Peace!
You are the man.
I wanna say THANK YOU for inspiring me!..... I have no words for how much this song means to me...
This song is killer dude! Any word on how far off we might be from the studio version of your cover of Periphery's Scarlet? I am dying in wait!
***** I think its an RC-2 Loop Station
Absolutely breathtaking. An inspirational moment right when I needed it. God bless
That bit from 3:06 onwards I need like a 10 hour version on that, I could never get tired of listening to something so beautiful
Thank you! :) i found it on soundcloud! soundcloud.com/magmarine/mike-dawes-boogie-slam-outro?in=rebecca-todd-194331004/sets/new-playlist not sure if that will work or not!

Link doesn't work anymore 😔
it's unbelievable that this video only has 152 thousand views. it deserves 152 million at the LEAST. The cure for cancer has been here all along!
The end genuinely brought a tear to my eye.
Me too!
for a moment, the world stopped, and there was just this music
Love you guys!
who can unlike this...i want them to play like this....
After almost seven years I understood this piece. I was not able at the time it’s been released.
It’s something special.
It’s beautiful.

'What just happened' is such an appropriate name for the album
As a Prog-metal guitarist or whatever the community is calling it, I really dig your sound keep up the sweet tunes. Man our generation is really producing some really great people.
There are those who can play a guitar, and then there are those who can make a guitar sing. You made that thing sing, good sir.
I love that theres Guitar TAB available so I can be bamboozled by the tab as well as the video.
I do not stand guitar players that go "I'm quitting after seeing this". As a musician myself, far from quitting this only makes me practise even harder. I mean, I sit and hear this and then it's like boom, now that I know that things like these are possible I'm taking my guitar playing next level.
while i totally i agree, i think some people are saying it ironically, great outlook though
Daniel Florin Personally, I might quit electric for a while after seeing this
Sal Zulli it's the same I did myself.
Just that ending is a song in it's self, it's so beautiful...
Oh man that ending, could listen to that for hours
2:07 I love that little pluck above the nut hahaha so ingenuitive, this guy is.
Kevin Benoit I imagine to non-guitarists this statement sounds really weird
Mike Dawes is a name that I will never forget after watching this video.
This is some serious kung fu.
you never know how amazing a musician can be.
Ha, you should totally contact them and ask :) wicked band
Finally a dude who plays this style who has some BALLS!!!
The final build up is so beautiful and pure that I wonder :
Can someone create something that gentle and yet be a bad person ? I mean, after listening to this song, I would let him take care of my kids...
I once saw Toulouse Engelhardt, beautiful 12-string instrumental music. He then proceeded on a tirade about how his cat was a whore..... I wish he had just played guitar!
lmfao
invis19 a year has passed and here you have this dude in Scotland spitting bourbon everywhere after reading that comment!!😂😂😂
Charles Manson was a very talented guitar player himself, look up "look at your game girl". Unfortunately for him he could not get into the music industry and became the infamous sociopath we know today. So yes you can still play such fantastic and heart warming music and be a horrific individual at the same time
I loved this album so much that I bought 3 extra hard copies just to give them to people that have never heard this music before. LONG LIVE DAWES!!!!
please welcome the new mike dawes to the family of my favorite videos.
Best percussive guitarist I've heard since Michael Hedges
What i just saw was simply Amazing! This guys rocks, one of the best guitarists i have ever seen. Truly Gifted!
He is truly expanding the horizon of the finger-style techniques we all have heard so long.
I always come back to this song... it's too amazing.
I hope when people watch this, that they can see past the virtuosity (which is in abundance) and hear just how honest this is. Dude is playing what’s in his heart. Unbelievable.
This is the djentiest acoustic guitar playing ever.
StinBruh listen Combatika by Kevin Blake Goodwin
Blake's good, but Mike's over limits..
Gypsy metal by Alexandr Misko
I've been playing guitar and listening to guitarists for 25 years, but this guy completely blows me away! Can't comprehend his creativity and innovation. Hats off, thumbs up, mind blown and every other thing...
wow! Amazing!!! I love the final of the song
Jesus of guitar!
Thanks for showing me the heaven.
You are so beautifully blessed by Father God! Could listen to you all day.
I don't believe I have to explain this but no, not for one song, but for the ability, technique and expertise he has gained and utilized it to write and play such technically demanding guitar pieces.
This... OMG this is incredible.... INCREDIBLE... WOAH woah woah.... that's what I'm talkin about man!!! come to Montreal Canada please!!!
Geez. This. This makes me wanna dance in a prairie somewhere. Or just plain dance. The very sound of a breezy spring/summer afternoon. Magic hour. Makes you glad you're alive you know.

No shit...
Perfect practise that all

Mike Dawes, you're very gifted and your music is so great ! Thank you for sharing these deep emotions with us !

Cool Blue Yeah Jesus does look a lot like Mike Dawes
***** Hm.. I do
Christian Barrera lmao
dude, that's Shaggy right there.
I think Scarlet hit the nail on the head, if you didn't like this you either don't like music period or you are tone deaf. I think that Mike is a brilliant musician. Keep up the good work and ignore the haters
seems like a whole band!
The ending of this song is probably the happiest thing I've ever heard.
Ok ;)
Wow amazing...Image you sitting on the grass in a park, seeing a sunset in front of you and listing to this music..man I could die in peace
He should let the last loop last forever!!! It was too short!!!!
Mike I found you via Mike Palmisano playing Jump. Mike P is as solid as an human being I have encountered on the web and for HIM to say what said and for the first time that I've see he barely played a single note listening to you. When ca we see an M&M show. You rock, love your energy and your space.
Incredible!!! What's the tune???
From high to low: d#5 A#4 F4 D#4 A#3 A#2.
No one ever said that guitar playing was "only possible for the already famous or wealthy." This shit easy af I just need a guitar and a Mike Dawes
There are so many crazy techniques and prog rock elements used in this song it's crazy.
This man disgusts me, he's so good.
I taught this to my 14yr old bro. . . I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
Push yourself, If you learn a song thats harder than youre used to then everything youve been doing before is easier.
Twerkin Deadman Agreed! I learned his 'Boogie Shred' song and nearly every fingerstyle guitar song is too easy and boring to play.
xxdrew333xxx This is why after watching dudes play like this I still love watching John Fahey play!!! Soul, fullness, and brilliant compositional ability.
I think the hardest part is not playing, but pass on some thoughts, and some people do it. Liked the music and appreciate this dedication to life, i think some people are born to be great.
Anyone hearing the "swoshh" at 2:36? Jawdropping!
+Fernando Cano G. That one little sound might be my favorite part of this song.
+Micheal Pacitto Gee... After record edits.
+kendram90 Don't know about that (but makes sense, though).... anyway, it sounds so freaking good!
+David Cardona There's bits of reverb blast on the occasional last chord in a bar here and there. I reckon it's post edit. But it's fucking worth it. Have you checked out Impossible 2.0 by mike?
Your performance is near life changing.
and this is why people say music is the most transcendental kind of art. just perfect. it's unchangeable.
p.s.: I've never seen a live version of this song. does anybody know why?
Probably nobody recorded it and bothered uploading it. Or maybe he didn't play it. You could watch for tour dates and be the first! ;)
I went to one of his concerts a while ago and he played this. He was winded afterwords but it was very nearly as good as the record. Pretty incredible
This is by far my favorite song from him, so I asked him in person this same question when he last came through Florida. He said that its just a really hard song and the fade out into the outro is very difficult to sound smooth live and not have a chopped bit make its way into the beginning of the loop.
Saw him live tonight in Wrexham and he played it perfectly
Usually I'm not into all the tapping and stuff. A lot of artists often use it to make the guitar look and sound overly complex, while also filling the song with tons of noise just because they can. Sure, it looks impressive, but only a few artists can make those sounds meaningful.
Mike Dawes does that for me. This composition also shows that he's not just all about fancy fingerdancing tricks by contrasting those fancy maneuvers with "regular" playing. Great job, Mike!
I could totally do this... Hold my beer.
*holds beer* *start playing it while gargling beer, puts on badass glasses*
thats the beer talking . :P
Thank you Mike Dawes. I spent this whole day mixing down a track I wrote, and after finally getting tired of hearing it a million times, I stumbled upon this vid. Your work makes me humble, shuts my mind off, and is so refreshing. This track is one of my favs.
my favorite part is 3:04 to the end
Mine is 0:00 to the end ^^
Beautiful
I always thought music was about delivering a message, a certain feeling, and not about inventing new techniques or being creative in which techniques you use.
Mike might not be the first to use this style of playing, but he is the first one to deliver this particular message. That's what music is about, that's the only thing that actually matters.
How did he find out that beautiful tuning?

that bit at 2:35 guys.
I'm trying to work with this music in the background... but end up staring at it the whole time and thus not getting any work done. Worth it
Sounds like something capcom would use in Street Fighter
I swear I hear some Chrono Trigger echoes. It's beautiful.
nathansgreen heard it too
i think billy b said it perfectly at the end ... what an experience. i can't tell you the gut wrenching nostalgia i felt at the last part. wow.
Progressive acoustic metal?
Nothing about this is metal.. lol
Dewey White hes referring to the low bass note kind of chugging along like in progressive metal
I'd say (if we were talking genres here) percussive and fingerstyle
if u say "nothing about this is metal" then u must have never truly listened to metal, u just think metal is all about distortion and screaming don't u?
tuiso wow
There's masterclass, and there's absolute masterclass. This is absolute masterclass.
1:49 Einstein was wrong!
I have the utmost respect for your Mum. It can't have been easy giving birth to you & that guitar.
Omg !!! He's the best guitar player I've ever seen !!!!! EPIC !!
You are so right, Dylan! I can't believe kids now days. They just can't sit back and appreciate music for what it is for...not to nonchalantly comment about it but just enjoy the candy for what your ears have just received.

Mike Dawes is the coolest ever.....!!!!
Technique doesn't make a musician. The ear is your greatest ally to success.
thats the best acoustic performance ive ever seen
Playing this takes hard work and skill, Creating this take talent and dedication. Nuff said.
That outro is simply fantastic...
Congratulations on making magic! Lovely marriage of sound and vision...the ecstatic beauty is truly appreciated over here in the States....Shine on brightly.
regardless of his amazing talent and skill, he still manages to emit some kind of humble vibe in his song, I absolutely love it.
Mike, for the love of god
We NEED a part 2 of this
How could someone possibly dislike such awesomeness?
Some people are just made of music. Mike, you seem to be one them!!
That is one of the greatest solo guitare i ever heard...
Even the scratching of the strings while changing chords sounds beautiful.
this guy has some serious internal rhythm plus everything else! awesome
Perhaps one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
Mr. Dawes,
I'm speachless.
Thank you,
Mike
OMG... That was glorious. Unbelievable skill, amazing tone, a metal feel to an acoustic, and smooth all the way through. Absolutely flawless! This video should have millions of views. Millions!
The way he lets the harmonics ring out is cool. precise hands.
I think he has a really high action too, which would help with sustain
A true gift on display...
Candyrat presents another musical genius. Thank you.
I only wish my classical guitar playing buddy was alive to see this
From amazing rhythmic to pure melodic resolution... just magnificent!
