- This is from the original pilot of the 70's reboot. It includes the opening theme, a zinger, email song, and the cup game! It's a little different from the 1999 version that eventually aired, including a completely different cast. Hayley generously filmed this for me and her family provides some fun commentary!

I did not know that Zoom did a pilot revival in the year 1995.
I knew I wasn’t crazy. I remember this pilot, especially the theme song.
I loved this show and never knew of this pilot. I'm so happy I found this RUclips channel and I hope one day we'll see the full original pilot!!
A few facts about this _ZOOM_ pilot:
1) It was intended to premiere in early 1997, coinciding with the original show's 25th anniversary. However, due to creative differences, it was ultimately scrapped.
2) The logo for this pilot was exactly the same as the 1970s version, but given a 3D effect with no pattern in the letters themselves.
3) This version was not just a production of WGBH Boston, but it was also co-produced with Carol Rosenstein's Together Again Productions, the company behind many other children's TV shows including _Kidsongs,_ _The Big Comfy Couch,_ _The Wiggles,_ _Tots TV,_ _The Noddy Shop,_ etc.
4) Rosenstein herself was merely a consultant for the 1996 pilot, whose actual executive producer Kate Taylor, who was a producer for seasons 3 and 4 of _The Kidsongs TV Show,_ and would end up helming the actual _ZOOM_ revival in 1999.
5) After this version of _ZOOM_ failed to make it to the air, a few of its cast members joined the final season of _The Kidsongs TV Show_ in 1997; that show in turn had two of its own kids who would eventually join the 1999 version.
Forgive me, but some of this sounds like fanfiction.

That was really fun to watch. I never knew they had a pilot episode. It definitely seems more like the 70s version than what was actually aired. Why didn't they use the cast from the pilot for the real show?
Wow I had no idea this existed! It's definitely more like the 70s Zoom than the revival but I do see elements of both versions
I remember seeing or hearing a commercial to try out for the Zoom reboot and my mom wouldn't take me to the audition. Took another 2-3 years after this for the show to come back

I watched ZOOM in the late 90s and I love it. I wish I can see it again when it rebooted it
This is awesome. I grew up watching the 1970 version of Zoom. This pilot episode maintained the innocence & charm of the original zoom. So sweet. Love the the theme song.

I grew up with the Org. from the 70s loved it seen all the newer ones also loved them wish they come out with another one again would watch that one too..

ZOOMfan1 yeah, after Cafe ZOOM, during ZMAIL, Enid read a poem called "Trading", Chad read a poem called "Inside An Eraser", & Georgina read a Haiku called "Tiny Specks of Light".
Afterwards Chad, Daniel & Enid played a game where one of them had to whistle while eating 3 crackers; Chad won.
Was Marcus in any segments?
It just hit me, but there was a What Zup segment where someone talked about Dating; after that Marcus gave the ZOOM address while playing with Silly Putty.
After that Hayley told Daniel a Knock-Knock Joke;
"Knock-Knock"

This was supposed to be a replacement for _The Kidsongs TV Show_ for 1996, as the producers of that show worked on this revival, as did some of the Kidsongs Kids. But when plans for the 1996 revival fell through, _Kidsongs_ was brought back the following year for one final season.
This just screams the feels of the 70's version, but taking place in the '90s. Not gonna lie, I'm glad they changed up to what it ended up becoming in 1999, but this was still very enjoyable to watch. Cheesy, but enjoyable. XD

(I was snooping around looking to source a thing for an article and found this by complete accident: openvault.wgbh.org/catalog/V_82E12EB14A364FE8BC7B80DABF976D8C
It says pilot but I can't be sure it's the actual one other than from the text (and that I was searching between 1996 and 1998, though that loads in some early season 1 stuff in the results too), since it's not even digitized in part (and it might cost money to digitize if they'll even do it at all?) and I live nowhere near Boston to even try to schedule an actual visit to their archive...)

A couple of questions to any cast members who may be out there.
How long did it take you to film this episode?
Did You have to go through the same audition process as the full season boomers?
We're you disappointed that you only got to do one episode & didn't get to be a part of season 1?

I literally just found this! Brings back such fond memories. I'm Esther! I think it took us a week? Maybe two to film? The audition process was crazy and such a blast! I remember we had numbers based on how many people were there (lots of people showed up) and it lasted a couple of days. I think I stared as number 400-something, then 100-something, then 52 (I remember that one!), then 12 (I remember that one too!), and then I got cast :-) I wasn't disappointed at all that I only did the pilot, it was such a fun experience and it really got me into acting. I'm actually an actress and producer out in Los Angeles now with my own production company (Team Rebelution Films) and I'm doing quite well. It's all thanks to Zoom! :-)

ZOOMfan1 Cool and this is the first time you've seen a bit of the pilot since one of the original cast members sent it to you?
I had never seen this before. I just found out it existed a few months ago and Hayley from the cast contacted me about it. I didn't start watching ZOOM until 2001.
ZOOMfan1 Well it's obvious this probably only aired once and was never seen again. I was just almost a year old when Zoom aired. I didn't watch until I was about 4.
Yeah I think it was mostly shown on tape to test audiences

Well this is almost completely different from the 1999 version we all know. I like it. I could see this version airing on the disney channel back then. We'll just call this the 1996-1999 version of Zoom. Why not right?

I never thought that this pilot would be here before Alisa, Zoe, Jared, Pablo, David, Keiko, and Lyneese came along later on! If only Jared or Zoe has mentioned about that in "The Making of ZOOM" VHS. Are they any signs on how these Zoomers are doing in the present 21 years later?
I can't speak for the others from the pilot but I can't complain. Chad here.
