  • NORWEGIAN AQUA Float Out Ceremony + first impressions
On April 23rd, the NORWEGIAN AQUA (IMO 9824007) was floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera near Venice. This marked an important milestone in the construction of the latest newbuild for Norwegian Cruise Line. NORWEGIAN AQUA will be the first Prima Plus class ship. She will be around 10% larger than her two predecessor ships NORWEGIAN PRIMA and NORWEGIAN VIVA.
As part of the float out ceremony, two coins were welded into the hull of the NORWEGIAN AQUA in a maritime tradition. Historically, these coins symbolize an offering to the ancient gods and goddesses of the sea in exchange for good luck and safe travel at all times. Following the ceremony, a local priest blessed the ship and ceremoniously smashed a bottle of champagne against the hull.
NORWEIGAN AQUA will have a gross tonnage of 156,300 and a length of 322 meters. Norwegian Cruise Line announces several new features for the ship: the Aqua Slidecoaster, the first hybrid roller coaster and water slide; the Glow Court, a new digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor, and Ocean Boulevard, NCL's largest 360-degree outdoor promenade to date, Ocean Boulevard. The first three-bedroom duplex suites can be found in the luxurious The Haven by Norwegian®
