Laser Engraving on Leaf

Hi, i'm using 3W engraver, i set up power to 90% to have 2,75 W (0.55*5=2.75) and used same preset and speed on a fresh leaf, my result is carbonized draw, any tips? i was thinking about dry the leaf because only first "layer" look carbonized maybe the water inside leaf block the laser and it work only on first layer
