  • Another recording I did for students in my coaching program. Same deal as what I mentioned in the description of my previous video - if I was just reciting the surah on my own, for example in salah, I would tend to vary from one maqam to another depending on the meaning and the general flow of the surah. Here, I'm sticking to one maqam throughout the entire surah just to give my students a longer clip to learn from.
Enjoy! you can use this clip to get familiar with and/or learn maqam ajam in recitation. The faster way of course is to join our Overnight Qari program where we go over how maqamat work as a system, and break down for you specific patterns that you can easily implement in your recitation. Personally, I have no knowledge of maqam? So, I just appreciate the tilawat.

Salam sheikh. I have a question. I don’t intend to insult you or anything but I’m curious. To me it sounds like there is nasality in the recitation. Is that the natural tone of your voice?

no problem to ask :) I was thinking to record a video response, but didn't get around to it yet. I'll try to do so soon otherwise I'll come back and respond here. Super short answer is yes I have some nasality. I used to pay more attention to it and I used to better be able to control/reduce it, but tbh it's currently not that important to me to get rid of it fully. If someone has an overbearing amount of nasality (where it's super nasally all the time and colours their entire recitation) then they might want to work on fixing it. A little bit (as I judge mine to be) in my opinion is not a big deal. The other thing I notice is that when I recite "all out" so to speak, like if I"m leading salah or reciting into a microphone, I tend to project better and I don't have the nasality. But if I'm going low volume and just talking/reciting into my phone, then it's there.
ok so that's a bit more than a super short answer, maybe no need for the video response after all. Thanks for asking :)

@@IdreesAllyMaqamat okay جزاك الله خير. I was wondering because I am starting to learn the theory of tajweed a bit more الحمد لله. One of the makharij was the nasal cavity which the ghunna ن and م come from. I have been trying to reduce nasality in my madds and this had me a bit curious. جزاك الله خير for responding. May Allah ﷻ accept آمین

@@Yusuf-Waseem wa iyyakum. If you're just getting started with tajweed and studying with or reciting to a teacher you trust, then go with whatever they teach you. In theory yes if you say "aaaa" it should ideally all come from the oral cavity. Meaning if you were to pinch your nose you should feel no resistance ... i.e. sound is coming fully through the mouth. However in practice you might have some light nasality, this doesn't fall under right or wrong. Beginner students might not appreciate this, but not all of tajweed has to do with right vs wrong, and not everything you'd cover under tajweed is of the same level of importance. People are people and they're diverse ... so naturally in any population people have diff vocal tones, diff degrees of nasality etc. Allah knows best, but we don't find that the Prophet sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam came to eliminate people's nasality. So it definitely sounds clearer/better if you don't have major nasality, but apart from that if it's an alif and it sounds like an alif and you're clearly reciting an alif, then a little bit of nasality imho is not something to make a big deal of trying to fix. And Allah knows best.
