Thanks for the support guys. This debate has been raging ever since the rise of metal yoyos, while most bow down to the status quo of accepting and embracing metal yoyos, there are a select few who insist on promoting the merits of plastic. So pretty much in this video I will be going through the pros and cons of both and allowing you guys as viewers to make a conscious decision.

Metal is obviously better, but I like plastic too coz I don't need to be afraid of clashing it on the ground. If I were doing competition, I definitely use metal, but for just having fun or practicing, plastic is better.
My favorite metal is AX by Turning Point. Favorite plastic is protostar or Phenomism.

+megalopolis4 i know i am late to the party but plastic yoyos are a lot better then what they were. most of the time it comes down to what you prefer. some of the most advance tricks plastic yoyos cant achieved like grinds. I've seen competitions where people use plastic yoyos to win but all in all more things can be done on a metal yo-yo then plastic just be carful when using metal so it doesn't smash into anything
when you fail a trick with a plastic yoyo and it hits your hand it herts less thenwith a metal yoyo

I nearly fibrillated myself with my Fizz doing loops. Fucking smashed my sternum with it after missing a loop and I could feel it for a week…
Nothing like a buttery clean one drop just out the box with a fresh piece of kitty string nylon so smooth
my favorite plastic yoyo is the replay yoyo (you should consider getting it, its really good and only $16), and fav metal yoyo is the minute, its small, fast, and balanced.

Is the classic a good yoyo? I'm still around intermediate level , I can do a few cool tricks and double or nothing , and I'm still using the classic that I got when I started yoyoing (modded with silicon and an unresponsive bearing) .

I would suggest for beginners get a hybrid like protostar or darkmagic because my first yoyo was the protostar now i have a quash,888,and horizon but if you wanna get strait to metal i suggest quash or dv888
how about the replay pro yoyo,is that durable enough??
I do agree that metal is better in some ways over plastic. One of my plastic yoyos is a velocity but for some reason on the pro setting it is not unresponsive anymore. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Btw the bearing is clean. Thanks!

I decided to make a full plastic year. I have what I consider to be the best plastics I've tried so far, especially the Addiction and the Crazy-D, and they offer everything I need, even for competition play. However, I miss metal yoyos soooo much right now that I'll not stick to this resolution. It's not about performance, I miss the feeling of cold aluminium in my hands, and I found an awesome deal on a Draupnir :)

I generally prefer metal, but I love the one drop rally. I don't really mind the material as long as it performs well.

Personally I like metal, my favorite so far is my 2015 wyyc yyf x yye metal replay. Thats only because my collection and experience with metal yoyos is quite limited.
My favourite plastic is the velocity and favourite metal is the shutter.

Yes its very good for beginner but its thin gap is gonna be hard to land the yoyo unresponsive C bearing.
My favorite plastic is probably the protostar, its extremely fun my favorite metal is the Turning Point positron. Obviously I'll take the positron.
Aluminum I agree is the way to go if your serious about the craft. I’m a die hard Duncan enthusiast when I was 10-12 Played a Duncan pulse Yoyo (plastic) I’m 25 now I switched 3 months ago or so I just got a Duncan origami unknown and a Duncan torque in the mail for Christmas..I’m never looking back at plastic yo-yos.😊
is the sage yoyo by Yoyo Factory a good starting yoyo? i ordered it with an upgraded bearing to get less responsive play, but should i have gone towards metal? im sort of new to yoyoing
In my opinion, the sage is a great option for beginners.

Plastic and Metal are equally good in my opinion.
However, I learned almost every trick I know on a YYF OneStar, and it's still one of my favourites.
My first yoyo was a yomega cross fire and before I didn't know what to do with the loop at the end of the string and I through that thing so many times yet the thing that killed it was the excel stripping not it breaking

I like both but let's put it this way the reply pro or the skyva are both plastic yoyos but they play better then most auldey metal yoyos but the don't play better then a shutter or the edge or even the ti dream and just so I'm not only giving examples of yoyo factory

Protostar beats both in terms of performance. Finger spins probably not though, and this is coming from a replay pro and Sky A owner I only tried the protostar once and it blown my mind -_-

Its for beginner has a A bearing in it it sleep like 30 second, its responsive can help you to get that yoyo back up

...is the one you are actually going to throw. The one you are not going to worry about smashing off a floor every now and then. The only way to improve is to play, and you're not going to give it 100% if you are afraid of your throw hitting something.
In regards to champions and top competitors using metal, it's almost a given that if your that serious or involved with an activity why wouldn't you want to buy high end expensive equipment. I like plastic yoyos because they don't do as much damage when I get hit by it and I don't have to worry about dings or scratches. Other than I like metal yoyos for everything else about how metals play although the difference isn't mind blowing.

I work in a toyshop and I've been playing with the demo velocity for about two weeks. Now that I can do a few tricks I want to buy one. I want the dv888 but we don't sell the berings when in ready to switch

I am a super new beginner!! I have a plastic yoyo and metal yoyo and I find doing some stuff is easier on plastic and I cant do it on the metal one. Why is that?
I know it's cause I suck but is there another reason this could be? One is a metal yoyo king and the other is my old 1999 plastic cheap yomega firestorm wing which was like 5 bucks but yet I find it easier doing tricks on my old ass 5 dollar yoyo rather than my 20 dollar metal yoyo king.
i think is better the metal yoyo, i love the metal yoyos ahahah. My favorite plastic yoyo is YYF NorthStar AuroraBorealis, is really good, but you do not win the metal. My favorite metal yoyo is YYF Shutter with dif-e-yo konkave bearing is really really cool! I also like the YYF Horizon (I would like to try the Supernova) but definitely wins Shutter ahahah

I believe takeshi won worlds with a plastic, hiroyuki even used speedmakers and speeders both plastic/ semi plastic. Depends on the yoyoer I like to use speedmakers or lynfurys just for practice and messing around.
For competition, long combos or when needing a the yoyo to be more stable metal makes it easy but not impossible to achieve what you want to do.

Rachel Wong no you can’t really deny a yo-yo if you drop it but you can ding it on concrete and make it vibe but if you don’t want to hurt your yo-yo use plastic on concrete and I Love the horizon and I would recommend it over shutter I have both

Does the replay pro break easily?
+Yo Trick Mine have both held up fine, but because I'm relatively seasoned at Yoyoing I will rarely hit the ground. So if you don't slam the Yoyo it should be fine, like any other :)
mine is still working just fine. its super durable plastic and ive dinged it so many times. if your looking for a good plastic yoyo i reccomend the replay pro or the classic

I bought my first yoyo its hades wolf from auldey and its plastic i have bang my yoyo to my floor it didnt crack but it just a little damage, i mean so little that i only just scratch and dent just a frikin tiny bit so i think its good quality
I prefer metal yoyos.
The reason why is because I used to play with a replay pro and then I upgraded to an n11 and it felt amazing, it was cheaper as well. :p

I started of yo-yoing when my teacher gave me one of those like 50 cent yo-yos I liked that yo-yo a lot so I bought a auto wind Duncan yo-yo and in the same order a metal racer an advanced yo-yo I can’t get past walking the dog so far I should have started easy but I love that metal yo-yo it’s super fun
I like them equally but if I were to get a metal for 20 USD or a plastic for the same price I will choose plastic
You need to lower the music volume, voice and music cannot stay in the same db line. The music is too loud.
both are good depending on what model, there isn't a set good material, it's who makes the yoyos, not the material :) I use metal for single A and plastic for freehand :) up to what you use it for and your preference

Duncan makes better yoyos than Magic, but there are better yoyos than Duncan, too. Try something by Yoyofactory, or One Drop, or even CLYW, if you've got the money to spend. I would say Yoyojam, but unfortunately, they've closed. Which is sad.

I think it a tie for me because if you drop a metal yoyo you lose paint and put a small dent in it when i plastic doesn't change very much. But metal spins longer. looks cooler . And is smoother. Both are for good for unresponsive play . Just look at the dark magic 2 it's has a plastic body with metal rims for perfect play that's just my opinion tho

Ihave a recess first base plastic. And t5,t8,m001 by magic yoyo and the 3magic yoyos all do good(t5best of the 3). All 3magic yoyo spin WAY longer then my plastic first base. If I mess up a trick on the metal I have time to try it again before it dies. Plastic dies right away on first mess up. My first base plastic, I broke it my 2week of having it...plastic was waste of 20 bucks.

Eh Prefer the Hybrid yoyos. Middle range budget line. Iceberg, En Pessant, TiNG, Gamma Crash, you name it.
Metal is better as far as spin n weight distribution....but a plastic can play just as well.

I have blue t5 also. Its nice. I likehow small it is and it has good shape.
In my opinion, there is no a better one, it depends on what you are looking for. To me, plastic yoyos are more casual and metal ones are more "serious"
