- Just three months after graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Ensigns Emma Cox and Dana Rohde were learning to maneuver the 225-foot buoy tender Juniper on Long Island Sound.

That brought back great memories of my too short time in 1958/59 on the old "OAK" (1921 - Steam triple expansion top speed 8 knots) working the Jersey Shore, Long Island Sounds and the Hudson River. THANK YOU....an Old Coastie.
Deckie, 1988, USCGC Blackhaw (WLB-390), Yerba Buena Island, San Franciso, CA. (13m13d). Fun times! Miss the Pacific!
Good to see another Blackhaw alum. I was a snipe from '80 to '84. Great times. "Work Hard Party Hard".
@@robertjohnson2070 - Great to hear from you! I hope you're well! Semper Paratus!
Good job Mr B…brings back some fond memories of breaking in all those folks on the cypress
ah butterbars haha welcome to the fleet
QM on BALSAM, CONIFER both 180's, and WHITE SUMAC 133. There seems to be a large number of people on the bridge.
The ship they are on is not a cutter. It is a buoy tender wlb-201.
Every coast guard vessel 65 foot and greater is a cutter, this includes buoy tenders
Who operates the crane? And who’s tending the buoys on the deck? Which rates? Are they all BMs or are BMs only in the piloting of the boat. Just curious how it all works, going to join soon.
She literally said “lemme drive da boat”
Hahaha
I was so glad when I knew I was doing SAR and not going on a tender.
My father filmed the documentary of the first USCG cutter to traverse the Northwest passage on the Bramble where can I see the original film he made. Matthew Ohana
Jan that is really cool. 👍🏻Those who shoot and edit are never given enough recognition. People watch and simply don't think about the person who not only was there but lugging around equipment and operating it all while still watching for themselves.
Todays youth makes me nervous. Some thing about the speech pattern.
Are all the 180' s gone now? I was on board the Bittersweet (WLB-389) at the time the Blackthorn went down.
Lol “buoys” that’s kinda a cute ass way to refer to a fuckin boat Lmfaooooo
You don’t “drive” a ship. You STEER her. 🤦🏻♂️
Its' a ship not a boat.
Hey Ensign it's not a boat it is a Ship or Cutter not a boat.
"Boat" is short hand for any vessel. Don't be nit-picking for the sake of it
@@tjwalker960 did i ruffle your Navy panties Karen
Boats are subs
@@tjwalker960 I'm a Coast Guard Vet. QM2 on 180' bouy tenders, non rate at Air Station Miami. She an Officer and you say your were an Officer ( i wonder)the good old boy club of having each other backs. If you were Coast guard why did you refer to navy ships? you also so said geese man did you mean jeez man? Then the "thanks you very much" my Neices would say that when they were teenagers and now they are in their 20's. make me wonder about you. have a good day Karen!
