Interested to hear what I sound like? I have just realised my first cover on Spotify. Let me know what you think! open.spotify.com/track/6qfvKbg6ukHJOGykx2MARB?si=8a2fa85792b14d15
This was a song you could tell other people were listening to in their cars by just watching.. we would be driving and start seeing everyone in the car in front of us just start rocking and the occupants would be throwing their hands up and basically dancing while sitting.. We would start flipping radio channels and would always find this playing. Such a good groove, especially at the time it came out.
It's still a bop godammit!
He's always the consummate performer, liking to dress up in different styles while performing. Here, he has to band in school uniforms. At the MTV Fashion Awards, they had a Star Wars theme with Celo wearing a full Darth Vader costume, taking the helmet off when he began to sing.
I love this song.
The fact that this guy started as a rapper from Atlanta (with the group Goodie Mob) is still mind boggling to me because of how his career evolved..
Even then he was singing.
Remember the intro.. too soul food
Lord its hard living this life
Thanks for reacting to this song! The Live from the Basement soulful version knocked me on the floor and that's why I suggested it last year. CeeLo's voice can't go wrong.
Now I have to track that one down as well :)
The basement sessions version of this song will blow your mind. That version specifically, in a nutshell, saved my life.
Amazing
Perfection. There is no other word for it .
I would put this in the upper echelon of American songs. I mean all-time, all genres.
Hello Beth
For this performance on "Letterman Show", they used student musicians from a local performance arts or public school. (sorry I forgot exactly) This is why, you will notice most of the instrument and backup singers looking like they are somewhere between 16-19 years old.
Of course, the guy playing the keyboard in the shades was Danger Mouse, the other half of 'Gnarls Barkley'.
Listened to your version of "Wicked Games". It was WICKED!! You did very good with your range, tonality, and cadence. Of other people's cover of the song, I would say your version is my 3rd favorite one, at least. Don't be afraid to do other covers. You have a great voice!!)) Stay true to yourself and Be Bold with your Talents!!
Brian Burton is a huge fan of spaghetti western music and has even done an album on that music. He sampled the song "Last Men Standing" by Gian Piero Reverberi and Gian Franco Reverberi from "Django, Prepare a Coffin," which is the beat and string section for this song.
Rome is such a great album and was played by musicians who worked on the original spaghetti westerns. I recommend it highly.
He recently collaborated with derril Hall duin some Hall and Oats stuff very enjoyable
First time I heard this was actually at karaoke probably about 15 years ago. Some guy at the show (I don't know who it was) had his friends put him up to sing it and he completely DESTROYED IT. Since then, I looked up the original and was amazed how much he was able to sound like the original. I haven't seen this particular performance though.
I think you'll love listening to Basia. Time and Tide was her big hit. She's an incredibly playful vocalist with an amazing range. So fun to listen to!
Hi Beth 👋 thank you. Keep it this way girl; I'm pretty sure that you will archive this dream of yours to become this great singer you have always dreamed of.
You should do a comparison with the Ray Lamontagne version of this.
Fantástico......... fantástico.........demasiado fantástico me recuerda a una princesa. PLR. Hermosa bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
Love you and your analysis!
Hello Beth. Can you do video with the music that inspired you as a singer. Lots of hugs from a Swedish fan 🎶🎶❤❤
the best performance of this i've heard was on Jools Holland, i think it's on youtube somewhere. They slow it right down, really cool version
You should take a look at the Live Roskilde 2008 version. With the crowd singing, it's pretty cool ;)
The strings are recreating a sample from the Who's Hold Me Feel Me Touch Me Heal Me
" Gnarls Barkley - Crazy - From the Basement" Makes me Cry
Ceelo started as a rapper but has always sang in alot of the songs he's in, you should check out "In due time" by Outkast or his group Goodie Mob. Liberation by Outkast in another song that he sings in alot and that one has Erykah Badu also. And everyone know's his song "F you"
This was a great song at the time. We were in Las Vegas when it hit and it was played ad nauseum for the week we were there...actually literally drove me crazy. Nonetheless..it is catchy...even today.
Love how Beyonce just stuck the chorus of this when sings crazy in love live. EPIC :)
Beth, you gotta react to NEY MATOGROSSO - Brazilian artist - you will be astonished!!!
My favorite version of the song was by the Violent Femmes
Beth - you are wonderful and beautiful, I truly enjoy your reactions and analysis! PLEASE give a listen to "Sergeant McKinney" from the movie soundtrack of We Were Soldiers. An amazingly beautiful and sad "song", I LOVE the bagpipes and the language! THANK YOU!
Beth, if you haven't seen this, take a look. It's Voctave, a brand new release, and the first bass is absolutely out of this world:
ruclips.net/video/meU0fz025V8/видео.html
Pentangle - Willy O' Winsbury. Let's see a reaction to them. They always seem to pop up on my algorithm.
bruno mars wrote this song with ceelo
You should do some Jacob Collier pls:( maybe that Fix You Cover, or Hallelujah live on stream aid
Please react to: Juan Gabriel, Amor Etherno.
No, that tone comes from him being a Southern man. That is where that comes from.
Cee-lo is a vocal beast.
I prefer the version of this song they did from "The Basement". ruclips.net/video/WOjFhKg4h3s/видео.html
Hard to separate the art from the artist with songs like this.
CeeLo ""People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" Green is a tough act to enjoy these days.
Jones Sharon Williams Linda Lopez Gary
Now do Cee-lo's "Forget You"
Haha ... or even better, the real lyrical version!
Maybe he is singing about a narcissist? They think they are in control!!!
Just a thought. Gnarls barkley is sooooo much better than just this song.
Great reaction! He goes to Daryl's House and they cover "I can't go for that" so funky and really fun
Daryl is wonderful, he loves all kinds of music. He seems like a great guy
Cee-lo is amazing! And you can notice that he's voice was not 100% this day. He's throat was a little sour
That's clear as day, and he still delivers though
@@bernhardjordan9200 Only a gifted throat like he's can deliver and self preserve like that
Hey Beth, it's an amazing song! You have to watch their live performance of this song at The Grammys. It's next level, not in small part because of the added visuals, arrangements, and showmanship. All of it supporting Cee-Lo to deliver one of the greatest performances I've seen at that event. Cheers!
I haven't seen it, but now I must!! Thank you!
I completely forgot about this song!! And its a perfect choice for a vocal coach analysis. He has such a distinct voice!!! 💚💜
Still a funny story though, how a part of me was oddly disappointed. At first glance I could have swore I saw CHARLES Barkley in the title... and I'm assuming CB can't sing a lick so it would have been hilarious to watch him give it a shot (not to make fun of, but to have fun with)!!! 🤣🤣🤣
hes a great singer. natural great talent.
The whole first Gnarls Barkley album is 🔥
This is one of my favorite records. If you get time check out their two albums you'll be happy you did. As a music geek you'll be thrilled at their technical skill and fun they have with bending rules. This analysis was great and even though ive heard this song an innumerable amount of times this video opens it up more to what he's doing that i don't have the musical expertise to recognize. Thanks I appreciate the song even more now! Please please please do more analysis of their stuff! And or Prince
I'm surprised that you haven't reacted yet to Dobie Gray's "Drift Away", an iconic soul song about finding relief in music. He was a great musician and person. Upon his death from cancer, he left all his musical assets (including royalties) in trust to St. Jude Children's Hospital and The Tennessee School for the Blind.
I've been wanting this one!! There's a great live performance on RUclips.
For me, who always criticizes the low quality of music since the turn of the millennium, I have to admit: this song is a classic. Simple and sophisticated, strong and subtle at the same time. I love the strings, so 70's
David Gilmour of Pink Floyd agrees with you. It must be really good. ruclips.net/video/K7NL11DnXXE/видео.html
I'm with you. This sounds like a throwback song.
You obviously don't know anything about the excellent rock bands out there. There are plenty
u know he started as a rapper right? in Goodie Mob
You should listen to Cee Lo singing Crazy on "Live at Daryl's House", 2 great voices for the price of 1, with Daryl Hall singing. Are you familiar with the "Live at Daryl's House" series? Some great performances by a lot of singers.
You should def check out the version he did with Darryl Hall.
yeah, seeing this video reminded me of that
Great as usual ❤ asking again though, PLEASE react to YES - "And You And I" from Symphonic Live. It's honestly one of the finest live performances of all time. It's wonderful ❤
Agreed! Good suggest!
Looks (and sound) so effortless for him
You should do some songs from his "Perfect Imperfections" album, which was earlier, before he morphed into Gnarls. There are some really amazing songs on that album.
Blacks and music. Like peanut butter and jelly. This song is a classic. Haven’t heard a cover that comes close.
Very insightful! I've been wondering for a long time why his voice sounds so special
I really like this song. Cee Lo slays.
Faouzia did a nice version in her live events 2021.
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And rats make me crazy.
That eighteen years later, Tik Tokers are just discovering this eponymous song makes me laugh. He sang this live, but then most YT-ers don’t understand what natural singing is vs auto tuned, synthetic, AI generated songs sounds like.
can i recommend a song for you ?, the name is Amor Eterno by Juan Gabriel.
by the way i love your channel!!
It was "Mozartian" trust me, this song will outlast us all!
He's a rapper originally to be noted. I would love to see your reaction to he's basement live performances 🙏🏽 pleeese
Danger mouse would’ve written the strings I’m pretty sure.
There’s a cover of this song by someone called Daniela Andrade. Would be te rested to get your reaction t9 it!
It's too bad he messed up so badly - not only did he kill his recording career but also lost his gig on The Voice.
A! Green would've sung the shit out of this in the early 70s
For people who like this song and have 2 minutes free : you should take a look at a blind audition of The Voice France in 2016 of a very interesting version of Crazy. Search for "Gnarls Barkley - Crazy | Sol | The Voice France 2016 | Blind Audition" and feel free to tell me what you think about it😉
You're the best, Beth.
Saw Gnarls Barkley live back in 2006 in San Francisco... hard to believe it's been... uhm... 17 years? 😬
Love this but he is cutting about everything short compared to the recording? No?
Actually, this version is _longer_ than the recording because of the extra long intro. The recording is actually only 3 minutes, like the 70s Motown it channels.
Completely out of context with regard to this song, please react to CECILIA BARTOLI singing 'Agitata da due venti'. Such a vocal performance is a wonder to behold!
For my money the best version of this is the slowed down version on Top of the Pops
Alice Russell does a cover of this that blows him out the water, ive been asking for it for a couple of years, and im never going to stop! 😂
His performance of a slowed down version of Transformer at Abbey Road is amazing
Deceptively simple song. Very effective.
Their performance on Jools Holland was so much better
That's why we had the financial crisis of 2008 ,everybody was tuned into crazy.😂
I’m z74 and just heard it for the first time Zlove it
post modern jukebox has a Fantastic cover of this song!
The slow version of this song is outstanding
I know you have already reacted to Ray LaMontage, but his cover of this song is absolutely amazing!
ruclips.net/video/6mEfDSP4g_U/видео.html
More better is the versión "from the bassament"
