- Scientists in Oxford are hoping to have created a million doses of a coronavirus vaccine by September. They are one of a group of research teams who are to receive funding from a new government task force leading the search for a vaccine.
The effort to create a vaccine is a huge global undertaking and there are warnings that there is no guarantee of success.
The pressure to carry out more tests on frontline staff for coronavirus infection is continuing. The UK government says testing will be extended to the police, fire and prison services.
Ministers are also reviewing whether people should wear face masks in public spaces to stop the spread of the virus. A growing number of European countries recommend wearing them.
Meanwhile demand for help from food banks has soared as many people have lost their incomes.

These governments are too embarrassed to admit that the real reason for not recommending the use of masks for the general public was the fear that their under-prepared public health services would not be able to increase their inadequate stockpiles if the public were clearing out store shelves.

However, the vast majority of the population immediately started wearing masks and used hand sanitisers when out and about. It's not about personal freedoms (unless the freedom you're referring to is the freedom to infect your neighbours and co-workers), it's about caring for your community.

There's no vaccine for SARS because nobody funded its development after the initial outbreak. It's sadly as simple as that. There were scientist interested in creating a vaccine, but got pretty much nowhere due to there being virtually no interest in one from the key parties.
As for why flu isn't eradicated - because it is too widespread and nobody even really attempts to contain it due to the low level of threat it usually presents.

They can't give an exact date these things can take longer than a few months there are many pitfalls that could be encountered in developing something new like this which could slow down the development it could end up taking 2 or 3 years or it may be easier as they have studied similar viruses like MARS and SARS I don't know if they did any vaccine development on those but if they did they may have learnt some important lessons that should help them develop a vaccine for COVID-19.

my mother who is 80 and as COPD gets no food to help her, she got two in the first two week then nothing after that she as tried calling them to get help with food ,And no she can't get anyone on the phone ,so spoke to the local council and they told her they would be in touch with in 24 hours this was five days ago no one got back to her ,So much for helping the vulnerable elderly people .I live with her and also have health problem therefore i cant even go out to get food . so what are we to do ??

Have people noticed that the more vaccines we are given, the more our kids are allergic to so many thing more and more than ever before? I wear a mask from when I leave the flat for work, until when I get back. I am the only one at work who wears a mask and some colleagues make fun of me. They don't realise I'm protecting THEM too. Culture here is all wrong.
Why aren’t the volunteers wearing masks and gloves???? I am a nurse. They are an assembly line. They are 6 feet apart but all touching the same things down the line. This is how Covid spreads so easily. Love and peace to all. ♥️☮️

This technically means that schools have to stay closed till September because we can't social distance inside of schools which have about 1000+ pupils, until the vaccine is made.
So much for the government "feeding those on free school meals" through out school closures!
I have three kids on free school meals (they get £2:15 each per day while in school) and although I HAVE had weekly vouchers for the last three weeks it has only ever been ONE voucher and for just £10 for all three Children, not each. That doesn't even cover their daily amount.
I am sheltering as I have asthma and empyhsema (amongst other things) so cannot get out to spend these vouchers anyway.this has not been considered.
I have had ONE food parcel in the seven weeks we have been in isolation and that consisted of three potatoes, one can of beans and a tin of tomatoes. We are a family of five, how is this supposed to feed us for seven weeks.
My husband lost his job as he couldn't work due to my and our children's vulnerability (two of my three kids have asthma too)
I am currently in the process of a misscarriage with a partial molar pregnancy and despite hemmorage and AGONISING pain I was yesterday sent home to "return on Monday" when they intend to do a vaccine aspiration removal of the tumours and dead fetus without any kind of sedation, Aneasthesia or epidural because of coronavirus they "don't want to use anesthesia" which is BARBARIC.

BBC, how about some objective reporting? What risks are involved? What is the vaccine for? How can they ensure safety? What else is in the vaccine? What are the flaws with the RT PCR TESTS?
