Thom Yorke from Radiohead has said this about the song: "'Street Spirit' is our purest song, but I didn't write it. It wrote itself. We were just its messengers. It's biological catalysts."It's core is a complete mystery to me. I wouldn't ever try to write something that hopeless. All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve - 'Street Spirit' has no resolve. It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end.
Radiohead are an English rock band formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke; brothers Jonny Greenwood and Colin Greenwood; Ed O'Brien; and Philip Selway. They have worked with the producer Nigel Godrich and the cover artist Stanley Donwood since 1994
I appreciate your insights and perspective. But this song is literally about how death is an inescapable feat that we all must face, so while we're alive and here, we should choose to "immerse our souls in love." I know Thom Yorke has referred to it as hopeless, but ironically I find its message quite profound and beautiful. Thanks for reacting to it. 🖤
you gotta deep dive into radiohead! i watched all your aurora reactions, because i'm a huge aurora fan, who happens to also be a huge radiohead fan. their messages are very alike in my opinion, and i think you would love most radiohead songs. but to not just leave this comment here without song suggestions: nude, no surprises, lucky, exit music, paranoid android, pyramid song, like spinning plates, sail to the moon, everything in its right place. just to name a few :) love what you're doing, keep it up man
Fil, this track just give me chills. The snare drum rim hits with the guitar two notes melody sounding like a ticking clock in the verses. This is such a masterclass in production open and free. Love this track. Fil, a refreshing breakdown, zesty. #QcumberSquad #Radiohead - Fil, I'm off back to the study.
This video was pre-Matrix and blew my 90s teenager brain. This video was the most amazing thing I ever saw, and never saw again. It never left my mind's eye. Found it again on youtube a few years ago. So glad it wasn't just a hallucination. I can't describe how amazing this was in 95.
Always fascinating to hear how people interperate art like this. It would have been interesting to see your reaction if you had not watched the video and just had audio. Lots of interesting thoughts though. I enjoyed that.
Thom once said something to the effect that music is math that helps you get through the next day. A lot of people are needlessly coddled, but there are also those of us who can't through the day without Radiohead, Rothko, Hemingway, Hopper etc. God bless these artists for making things easier for the rest of us
Top notch breakdown and thoughts on the song and video. You have to face adversity so you can advance and ideally then be strong for others around you. Radiohead dives so very deeply into this isolation and darker side of existence throughout their music, this was from the mid 90's and 2nd album and they really have so much music that is similar in sound quality (though varies amongst many genres the quality remains superlative) and dealing with real human themes that you don't get in simple love songs or popping bottles at the club - and those are fine, music is music if it feels good it is good, but this band became my favorite for finding that space ad exploring a lot deeper territory while still being so focused on creating exceptional songs. Anyway, really enjoyed your analysis, thanks!
Another fabulous request from Tom ..love this one an love hearing your thoughts fabulous Fil ..my comments disappeared from yesterday .bonkers ..thanks lovely much love an God bless always x
Thank you Phil 😊. I am a huge fan of your reaction channel and share your love for Dimash. I love your Dimash reactions. you do him justice. You go deep and have great advice
Aside from being the first Brit I've heard say "ain't" and "bro" your interpretation of this video gave me new insights even after nearly 30 years of watching it. I saw the dancers as angels of death, the slow motion attempts to run reminiscent of our sluggish, helpless running in our dreams, and the characters facing life's demons and nightmares. Also appreciate your humble interpretation rather than assuming yours is the right one.
This made me think so much of the dancers in the "Cycles to Gehenna" (Aesop Rock), who to me represent the Greek Fates. The rest parallels Fil's take on this song.
I liked this analysis... Oh, silly me! What a profound approach! I didn't suspect the depths of this clip! Hmmm, I wonder... what would you say about another song - "Just"? I'm genuinely curious.
@@traktician Yes, it is from the same album - "The bends" (1995) - as this song, Street spirit. You have to watch the clip, not just to listen to the song. It was most puzzling thing around back then, for me, at least.
I am enjoying your Radiohead reaction and I’d be very grateful if you could pls react to Radiohead CREEP. It’s their best and most genuine and haunting and my all time favourite and I’d love to hear your take on it ✌️🎶

I loved your analysis, something I never thought of, but I think that's how I see it now, one of my all time favourites

🤔 Maybe Thom Yorke needs to watch this reaction to get a better understanding of the song he wrote 😂
Oh, yeah. Damn fine choice, Tom.
Yessssssss. Radiohead.

Very god Mr.TB
From a ai perspective
I love your feedback ❤❤❤

"literally" is a bit much. All "meaning" is interpretation, especially when a video artist brings in their own thoughts.

My party piece! I'm a bad guitarist but this is thr only song I can play after probably 30 hours practice.

Its about life. The nosense of existence and that we would fade out some day in a simple stream of miliseconds if not less. We are nothing
Thank you Phil 😊. I am a huge fan of your reaction channel and share your love for Dimash. I love your Dimash reactions. you do him justice. You go deep and have great advice
❤️❤️❤️ thanks so much. Really appreciate it 🙂
"You know, everyone has problems. It doesn't mean you have to be a little crybaby about it." -Thom Yorke
Be a world child. Form a circle before we all go under.
Immerse your soul in love.
Radiohead are qucumbers man. Maybe exit music (for a film) would be a good one to react to next.
The live version of this in Japan is incredible. Also Daydreaming Play Radiohead is one I think you'd really enjoy
Sometimes I feel we're too immersed in trying to find the secret behind the lyrics to actually listen to the song itself. It's beautiful!
This is a song about accepting death the moment before u die. Like being in a plane as its about to crash.
we need more radiohead)
Nearly missed this one cheers bud, your looking well, parenthood working well for you then.

As a Brit myself, I don't think he's British. I think he's from South Africa.
@@ac9110 hmm, my dumb American ass can't tell the difference in accents, if there are any, if my life depended on it.
@@samgod That's perfectly ok. It's close to being a British one but it's got a South African thing going on.
More Radiohead sir!
Trying too explain a song before you have listened many times is a manifestation of stupidness
I liked this analysis... Oh, silly me! What a profound approach! I didn't suspect the depths of this clip!

By radiohead? Would love to hear it

This song is on another dimension 🍺pls understand ita art music
"Correct" doesn't really matter here, I think. It's what you make of it, what it means to you, that matters.
All their videos are very cool and artistic try the video for the song No Surprises it is very well done.
The thinking comes after many sessions buddy
What can be your genre in the nineties
you sound South African

Absolutely happy to do that🙂
Not even a top 50 song for them
It's their most well known song, but it's not in the same class as anything that came after it in terms of creativity and execution.
