    Making this now with a #4 yarn in the xlarge size. I adjusted the gauge to be sure it would fit appropriately. I'm using a combination of the pattern and video. I like that you have both avaiable. As a intermediate/advanced crocheter I still enjoy the tips Mikey gives in video.
    Looking forward to wearing my cover up this summer.

    The first couple rows are usually the hardest and then it is easier. That is what I have always found doing these videos. Then you are doing the rest of the project easily. Just watch it once and then do it. That is what I always do now and I can follow him very easily and I think he is a pretty good teacher

    Has anyone done this child size? I have a friend that would like one for each of her daughter's ages 6 and 8. They saw my daughters and fell in love. Makes me sooo happy!

    • @coral5837
      @coral5837 8 лет назад +4

      I had to adapt my size because I used a different yarn, the pattern only requires you to have an even-numbered starting chain! That way the treble rows start and end the same. For a child size, you have a couple of choices- you can either use the same yarn and have fewer trebles per row and larger spaces proportionally, or you could find a different, thinner yarn so that the pattern comes out looking the same, just sized down. The bernat yarn is a 72% cotton, 28% nylon blend, so you should be able to find something thinner within that range.
      I made mine out of a 100% cotton yarn that was pretty easy to work with and is plenty comfy and usable right out of the water (probably wouldn't be great for swimming in either way), but I had to double it up to keep it sized closer to the pattern. If you find a yarn you think would be a good fit, I would go with the second option! then all you have to do is chain an even-numbered length that would be a good width for the girls, and go from there as you did with your daughter's pattern. Hope this helps!

    Do they have this new kind of yarn in different yarn sizes/weight? (Worsted, DK, Fingering, Sock etc) because i think thinner versions of this new tube style yarn would look really cool & give the end product a neater & cooler look. If they don't have it in thinner yarn weight, then can you suggested to them?. As usual, Fantastic tutorial & thank-you for doing what you do Mikey!, because you do it so well!!.😁

    I'm making the small to medium. I'll chain 54.. so after that , are the sc 53? Or 52? I'm very curious because I keep messing up. My first panel ended up very crooked. I still have to redo that one. I restarted the second panel 3 x's already. I keep coming up with different numbers. From here on out, how many spaces should there be?

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  3 года назад

      In the pattern it states the following:
      **Chain (ch) 54 (64-80).
      1st row: [Right Side (RS)]. 1 single crochet (sc) in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 53 (63-79) stitches (sts).
      So if you chained 54 you should have 53 stitches when you completed row 1.
      In Row 2, you should have 52 spaces between the edges.
      If your panel is crooked, check to ensure you are going into the correct chain when you do the Ch 4 to start a Row 2.

  • @robincarter3185

    I'm a beginner and this is my first garment and I just finished the first set of the pattern rows. I'm a little confused though on RS and WS. After the initial chain, the written pattern says that the 1st row of SC is the RS. Then when you get to the 1st row of the pattern rows, the written pattern says that row 1 of the pattern is the RS. That does not make sense to me since if you go by the 1st mention of the RS, then the 1st row of the pattern rows would be the WS. Can you please help me with this? Thank you so much and your video is excellent and has been a great help!!

    • @robincarter3185
      @robincarter3185 3 года назад

      I think the written pattern is wrong. It does 3 rows of single crochet before the pattern rows start. You have only done 2. I'll just have to keep in mind that when I get to the end, since I've followed the written pattern, I'll just do an extra row of single crochets at the top so that I will end on the correct side. I believe that will be right but we shall see. Either way, I can make it work.

      I think you are right. I noticed the RS is in [ ]. I'm trying to figure out why and I am stumped. This is old pattern but I really don't have an answer.
      **Chain (ch) 54 (64-80).
      1st row: [Right Side (RS)]. 1 single crochet (sc) in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 53 (63-79) (sts).
      2nd and 3rd rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
      Proceed in pattern (pat) as follows:

    What would the multiples be if you wanted to use a worsted weight cotton?

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 года назад

      I will have to circle back. If you draw a crochet diagram of the frame work of this, you may be able to figure that out. I would have to draw a diagram to get you that answer. I just cannot do it at this moment. I will have to circle back another time.

      @@TheCrochetCrowd Is the pattern like a multiple of 5 plus 2? If you had that information that would help me too. 😊

      you can order this yarn on Michaels website or Craftsy or yarnspiration websites also you can use a thinner T-shirt yarn might work as long as it is not too fat. loops & Thread has a t-shirt yarn that is similar to this yarn if you can get it. I've seen it on Michaels and Spinrite websites. I hope this helps you

      I followed the pattern! I'm not sure it makes much of a difference, all it means is that the bottom trim is wider than what's at the top-- it's not even really a visible difference because the shoulders aren't really visible from the front. I would think it's just preference!

      Yes, the salty water will damage the yarn.
