@FlightinmyVeins I did not say anything about a CR500 in my previous comment; a CR500 is definitely faster than an XR650R. I currently own an XR650R and a CRF450R. I think my 450 is faster and my old CR250R was faster up to about 75 mph. My XR does not feel nearly as quick, but has a greater top speed of the 3 bikes.
I owned a 2001 CR500 and is crazy fast. I just bought a 2001 XR650R and as soon as I received it, I will race them against each other to see what happen. I'll give you the update later, take care.
Gear the XRR so that it tops out at 65 and then see who wins. The peak hp of the CR500 is just a thin spike in comparison to the wide band monster torque of the XRR. Two very different bikes, if you want a reasonable comparison you need similar gearing. XRRs are built for 110mph across the desert, not 45 around small tracks. That said, CR500 is a legend in its own right. Two great bikes, love it... 👍
You didn't read what I said my buddy spent all kinds of money on that motor the 650 that is and after he got it running he comes to me and says I'll kick your cr500 ass that's all
@@cr500af I did read what you said. Above 65 he whoops your ass. You hit 65 in what, 3 seconds maybe? So your title should actually read "CR500 barely manages to cling on to lead for 3 seconds before getting it's ass kicked by an XR650r". There are bigger and badder bikes out there than an XR650r, but the CR500 isn't one of them.
You do know they make gears for a CR to Right. The CR500 will smoke a 650R any way you want to play. Gear the 650 to do 65mph and get smoked short distance and drop a few teeth on the back of the CR and get smoked to 110. Bottom line the 2 bikes are not even close.
@jeffclark2253 Yep, and that's why the Cr500 won the Baja 1000 for every year it was manufactured by Honda.... ah wait , no that was the XR650R... Two incredible bikes for different reasons but don't try to compare in the 1st three seconds of a straight line drag, completely pointless.
It won a desert race oh wow. Still is a gutless no power pig every where else. Bring one of them no power tanks to the drag strip single track woods or moto cross track hell any real racing and get smoked.

Yea, but you're on an very modded CR500. In fact, is that not a modern alluminum 450 frame? You went through the trouble to swap the engine, so I'm sure you've done work too it. 650 is stock looking. Even has the stock exhaust. Stock for stock, the 650r kills the 500.

I have not done it yet, but I'm pretty sure that the 500 will beat it. The thing that I like about the 650 is the torque. And as you already knows the 500 is crazy fast. I installed a Rekluse system on it and it's awesome. Thanks for asking and keep on riding.
Jose Diaz 650r is faster. The CR500 in this video is really a modern 450 with the old 500 swapped into it -- which means the engine almost certainly has different power valve, exhaust and sprocket. While the 650r in this video, still has the stock exhaust, and was on the 500's tail.
Heinrich Von Kekelnazi 650r is nowhere near as fast as the CR500. In stock form the CR500 makes 60-63 hp depending on the year and the XR650R makes around 45 and is way heavier than the CR500. The only place the XR650R will beat a CR500 in stock for is in absolute top speed, but this is only because the 650 has higher gearing stock than most/all CR500s.
Heinrich Von Kekelnazi Not to mention the CR500 could not have a "different power valve" because a CR500 does not have a power valve to begin with. While a power valve can be installed on one, it does not necessarily mean this 500 has one.
CR500 is a two stroke and it can't touch the top speed of a uncorked 4 stroke XR. Ones built for top speed and endurance the other is built for acceleration speed and blowing up after 5000 miles.
dolly drill A CR500 with higher gearing than stock will go over 100 mph. In terms of acceleration the CR500 will beat the XR650R assuming both bikes have ample traction. 4 strokes have slightly longer legs in general so an XR may be able to top out higher than the CR of both bikes are geared for maximum speed, but the CR is quicker and more powerful in stock form than even an uncorked XR. Both are fast bikes, but the CR500 is simply lighter and has more power.
It's simple, stock cr 500 approx 50hp, stock xr 650 around 30hp, of course the cr is geared for the track but just by simply upping the front cog or lowering the rear you're gonna get easily over 100mph with the CR, i recall Eric Geboares and Jobe doing way over 120 on a beach with their big factory 2 banger 500s.
@vitaliyr1 The xr has 11.1 pistion all the intake mods stage 3 cam by xr onlys little porting the thing doesnt even come on till 4gear. The gear box is much closer on the CR and that gives it the advantage. There was a reason that Honda used XR650Rs in Baja. They make more power for starters. The 2005 XR650R makes 61HP stock. More than the CR500 ever made stock.
@kunz82414 Man you don't know what your talking about.....The CR500 has a HP advantage over the 650R no matter how you gear them...the 500 wins. The 250 will lose quite badly to a 650R. I own a 650R and would never claim that it would beat a cr500. But i will claim that it will own a CRF450X and a KTM450SXF with similar gearing.
@xr650man And a 650 doesnt work that good for a track that well either and thats what my 500 was built for not to do 130 miles an hour i top out at about 65 he can kill me in top end. They are two differnt machines.
that's funny casue every red honda bleeding 4 stroke lover says that... funny enough most 2 strokes are more reliable then 4 strokes. no argument no excuses and no personal opinions or stories. take it to the bank
Have you ever ridden? His shifts were spot on and he didn't over rev the engine and he kept it in the power band. These big 500s aren't very zingy like the 250s either.
500s don't rev like 250s do. Shifts might have been a touch low, but they were in the powerband for sure. Just doesn't "sound" like it. 500s have a midrange like falling out of a tree, and a topend like falling off a bike.
Nothing beats the fun factor of a CR 500!!!

Wrong way round. Stock for stock the CR500 kills the XRR. 45.2hp for an unmodded XR vs 53hp for the cr500. The cr500 is also significantly lighter.
