According to the CDC website gain of function research was done on H5N1 in 2006 to test the reassortment ability to mix with the annual flu. Do we know how close their version is to the one we are about to see soon?

Cholera only happened in 3rd world countries. The reason we developed a social safety net in the US with housing assistance, food and public medical care for the poor was the 1918 Spanish Flu. The rich didn't suddenly start caring for the poor. The poor didn't have proper shelter with running water, education about cleanliness or sanitary food sources, (just like now) so the poor infected the rich, through maids, gardeners, street waste, just existing. And the rich died along with the poor.
So THEN we started taking care of the poor, disabled, elderly. Now, stupidly, we aren't.
