Great stuff, its in fantastic condition. Now we need to do a series of videos illustrating what Vickers MG crews would have been taught to do with them!

Absolutely. Full revolver training series? (which isn't that long to be honest).

Fascinating video Rich. As it happens, I'm from Middlesbrough originally so this was really interesting. My dad was born in Thornaby and the company James Robertson was apprenticed to was a prominent engineering company based in the town called Head Wrightson's.

That’s super Andy. Thanks so much. It needed the local knowledge to help! The video might well need a follow-up!

    I have that pistol
    It came back to the
    States and was rechambered
In 45 colt. You can still make
Out where it says 45 eley
And it's got british proof marks.
    Still a good shooter!🤠

That’s interesting. This is indeed a great shooter. We took it to the range a few weeks ago along with our SMGs and the Webley Mark 6 .455. A good day out!

Us Americans made a version of this pistol in 45ACP. It was called the model 1917 and was made by Colt and Smith and Wesson. I own and carry a Colt 1917 pistol here in Florida.

This is an American-made revolver but sold commercially to officers of the British Army.

I also have a 1915 marked British Webley MKVI in 455 and a War Finish marked Webley MKIV in 38/200. Great revolvers.

Fun fact most people don't know. Colt and S&W New Service revolvers in .455 Webley can also safely chamber & fire .45 Colt as well. Not to be mistaken with .45 ACP.

That’s interesting. I’m pretty sure .455 is more available here in the U.K. - Rich

I'm glad that is still an active gun. I would love a "wobbly " though ... not that I would turn my nose up at the Colt. I don't have a break top.

We’ve got a Webley on our shopping list and it’s quite near the top! We’ll do some firing and demonstrations of both as part of our open days hopefully.

I seem to recall that the 1917 variant of the Colt New Service revolver and the 1917 Smith & Wesson in .45 ACP turned up in British service in North Africa?

    • @vickersmg
      @vickersmg  2 года назад

Quite possible. They certainly stayed around in .455 for a while but I don’t recall seeing anything about .45-inch ACP being used outside of Home Guard use.

If I'm trusting my life to it... It's the 1913
They run flawlessly, are comfy despite the odd looks, holds more ammo. Yes cost much more but you know what. You only get one life.

The actual bore of the Colt New Service and of All of the Webley Mark revolvers is .454.
