vivalaphill nope. all compressor surge. bovs werent mandated back then, or used for that matter *the trans am Celica GTO makes the same chirping sound* and even then, they were using a surge bypass system that vented the air back into the exhaust, or something like that. i cant recall.
it is 100%ly a turbocharged car, and they had to use some kind of blowoff because the compressed air was shooting back through the turbo when letting of the throttle and destroying the pipe from airfilter to turbo

@balivyta if you're refering to the sound on gear changes thats from a lack of a dump valve/blow off valve (whatever people call them). its called flutter. you can also exagerate the sound further by adding a "dose pipe" before the turbo.

the compressed air from the turbo charger flows back into the turbo wheel,thats the sound you are hearing,after 2 races they had to change the turbocharger becouse it was broken. thats what i heared about that

Muss dir aber auch recht geben. Andere Marken haben mehr Erfolge einstreichen können. Ford hat die Serie Gewonnen, was man auch anerkennen muss! Aber Audi hat 7 Rennen gewonnen und war platz 2 wobei sie an 2 rennen nicht teilgenommen hat! Das ist auch eine große Leistung! Und ganz ehrlich... Der audi gefällt mir einfach 3 mal besser als der Cossi.

True though Chevy and other GM car engines,the traditional muscles i mean,had carburated engines and some were Hemi.Ferraris were and are mostly fuel injected and revv much higher.These Audi straight 5 engines in a normal Audi revv about 7000 with a 10V and 8000 with a 20V max.

gäääähn, ford? ach ja rennerfolge respekt! wenn man allerdings über verwertbare erfolge spricht, sollte man die tatsachen im auge behalten. ein cossi mit seiner stehbierbar (übrigens war diese auch nicht aus kruppstahl) ist und war wohl kein schlechtes fahrzeug allerdings sollte man sich mal den spaß machen und einen suchen der heute noch mit der ersten maschine fährt und der mehr als 400.000km auf der uhr hat. es ist und bleibt eben nur ein ford, aber dank henry produzieren alle am fließband.
Mal so ganz nebenbei, beide Systeme "steuern" den Ladedruck. Eigentlich wird da nur der zuviele Ladedruck abgelassen, wobei ein Wastgate den Vorteil hat, dass der Turbolader nicht zu hohe Drehzahlen erreicht, weil der Druck auf der Verdichterseite nicht absinkt, da alles überschüssige direkt an der Turbine vorbei in den Abgasstrang geleitet wird.

So ganz neben bei, das Pfeifen kommt nicht vom Wastegate (Das Wastegate Steuert nur den Ladedruck) sondern vom pop- off oder blow- off Ventil !! Das sitzt nicht neben dem Lader wie das Wastegate sondern in richtung Drosselklappe am Druckrohr !!

yes but the boost on the imsa was...quite enormous to get 700hp from a 2.1litre engine so they had to use something...

@balivyta All you need is a wastegate that opens when you lift the throttle. Not too hard to implicate. But the effect is very cool indeed

A v8 with a crossplane crank (Chevy) sounds radically different than one with a flat plane (ferrari).
