I don't know how young people these days look at hip hop , or really any musical genre they are into, I just remember when I really started to listen to rap/hiphop when I was 10/11 in the very early 90's , I wanted to know about the history , so I went back to the earliest times , and found the earlier groups and individuals that pioneered the genre and their influencers and listened to them , as well as listening to the current artists. I felt like it was a prerequisite if I wanted to call myself a hip hop fan. Also it was a lot more difficult to find information , we actually had to buy magazines, listen to pirate radio stations late at night and go hunting for music in random record stores all over the place, it wasn't ubiquitous and easy to access as it is now. The beauty of hip hop from that time period was that the sample heavy culture actually introduced you to a whole world of historical black music because the productions themselves paid homage to black musical history as well as each other in the hip hop genre. Hip hop was essential a genre that made itself out of other genres, a patchwork quilt of musical history if you will. Also at that time , the lyrical content was way more educational, most artists didn't have the luxury of money or didn't look at glorifying money as something good, they were more interested in being original and having lyrical content. I think the Hip Pop-ification of the genre diluted all that unfortunately and even though there are plenty of talented artists carrying the torch , they being drowned out by a lot of shit ones getting way too much recognition and kudos for nothing.

Seems like that Henrietta Lacks bar is over everyone’s reaction videos I’ve seen so far. Only ONE reaction video to this freestyle did someone catch the illest verse of all time.
Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman in 1951 who was being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital for cancer. They found that her cells kept doubling ever 24 hours when other cells just died. They started using her cells to study everything from the effects of poisons, hormones, drugs and viruses to the human genome and development of the polio vaccine. They are still using her cells today (called HeLa cells) to advance medical knowledge because they continue to replicate long after Mrs Lacks herself has died. Her cells have since been called "immortal". This makes that bar an INSANE double entendre because it draws a parallel between the constant presence of Mrs Lacks' cells and the constant presence of Black people in the cells of this white supremacist system...a carceral system that still extracts free labor from us for its own benefit. The point is only sharpened by the fact that Mrs Lacks' cells were kept and experimented on without her consent and without compensation for her or her family...which draws attention to how value has been drawn from Blackness primarily for the advancement of white supremacy without the acknowledgement or compensation of said Blackness. Entire university courses and books could be drawn from this bar alone.

Dad knows what he's talking about.
Great reaction, good insight. When the student is ready...the Master will appear!
thanks! I was one of them to request this! love you guys
He has been the frontman of a band for decades. As soon as the drum hits the one, it's showtime.
I tell a story like fingerprints and blood splatter. From the first bar to the last.
Dad kno his shit RESPECT! #PEACEFROMDAWOODS
Understand that us oldheads defined freestyling according to what was happening at that time..(off the top of the dome is what was happening)... young cats today seem to have their own definition of freestyling....Either way this is one of the greatest displays of lyricism ever....
Damn dude Dad knows his shit, respect sir!
dad knows his stuff!!
The thumbs down folks is bent outta shape because he dissed mumble rappers.
I'm probably closer in age to the son (23), and Mexican, but I been just like pops with lil man and he's only 3! That father/son knowledge is so important to pass on, but it's crazy how hard it is to realize how important it is till years later. We do it to spread the realness and truth, yet our children decide whether it's worth listening to and actually taking action. Props to both of ya'll for doing ya'll part. At the end of the day you gotta pray your kid is more than willing to be down with you, or rather choose to be a follower and blahzay blahzay whatever you got to say.
Greatest Freestyle Ever bro serious !!
He literally had 50 name flips from the beginning, but you caught the Morgan Freeman one which was the simplest!
WoW 🤷🏻♂️
Preach
Watch interviews after, it actually was a freestyle, he’s just that nice
Listen to Guerrilla Monsoon Rap with your dad...
Big like for your father talking real and giving some great advice. Even bigger like for him bring up Pharoahe, Mos Def, and Kweli. That is what I grew up on. If you dont know Black Star, you dont know music. Do yourself a favor and look up all these artists that your father is bringing up. Love the video!
Pops Speaking FACTS!!!
He's really just that good
glad you did this video bro i just watched your royce vid and figured your dad would love Tarik. big ups bro
Freestyle does not have to be off the dome, ffs people pissing me off with this comparison.. every MC made it clear, freestyle means whatever you say...
thought can definitely freestyle i seen him do it in person many of times i go back with them when they used to be called the square roots thought is the best freestyler hands down
He's just too damn smart for all of us
Loaded Lux joint is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Henrietta Lacks line was deep as hell.
Im international my passport is like war and peace, that's a nasty bar💥
OG knows his shit
Crazy thing is he said 80% was off the top of his head in an interview…. Legendary
He confirmed this,
It's a freestyle, the man been in the game for 40 years.
Cadence built under real musicians. Studies styles from all the legends. So, sorry all do respect from a brother from Philly like Thought,
This is real.
This one what over pops and son head!! Black Thought!!! Peace GOD!!
Pops, and many others, are still confused between a freestyle and going off the top. For the record, freestyles are written!!! No particular style or topic or theme.
Philly!!!!!!!!
Speaking of Kool g rap., Listen to on the run by him.
Undisputed GOAT
That is a 100% FREESTYLE!
You have to check Sypher Mose Def Eminem and Black Thouth it is craze combo woth your time
Please react to Kool G Rap - "Cannon Fire"
I totally agree this was already written and memorized, but it still however qualifies as a freestyle since he wasn't reading off anything.
Coach I hope your jefé knows this was straight cerebral improv 💯🙏💪
Tak to em Dad about them rap artists!
Pop's a bigger man than I am. Son looks like a solid kid, but when he said he hadn't heard of Thought before I would've gotten the strap.
