I'm American but I get culturesick with all of the foreign stuff and long for home, for English, for words my soul knows. I'll never forget where I'm from, or who I am.
Lovely! This expresses everything beautiful about the evening... it's my favourite time or day. The world slows down, and even in our rushed 21st-century urban lives we are allowed to pause. The evening is a time that joins everyone across all the ages: it is a time to reflect, to dream, to come home and to rest.
For heaven's sake! People say the English have no folk tradition (ignorance) but when someone posts an English song written by a Yorkshire woman people have to twist themselves inside out trying to prove that really, it is in fact Irish, because hey, the English don't do soulful and melodic. No, NOT Irish, and she isn't Irish. Good god if the boot was on the other foot, either mistaking an Irish or Scottish song for English, someone would have declared war by now!
@SometimesInnocent A lot of people have that reaction when they hear English folk music. In reality, the music across the British isles and Ireland is very similar, except the Irish and Northwestern Scottish music tends to focus more heavily on fast, repetitive arpeggio note-runs. This is, factually, an English folk song.
+Eighties Child the melody sounds Irish, there are many traditional Irish songs that have very similar melodies to this. She is probably part Irish and it came through her when she wrote it. Enya said in a interview she didn't even realize she was writing songs that sounded so Irish either
That's because we all share the same origins, Celtic blood runs through all the isles, although more obvious in Ireland, Scotland and Wales because of the languages, it's still there in England too
In England there is a wealth ot English folk songs that a lot of people don't know about

Makes me proud to be English, and no im not a soulless hypocrite with bad teeth if your wondering.
Heavenly .
Beautiful voice, similar to the gorgeous tones of Dolores O'Riordan.

It's English, get over it.
Eighties Child I'm sure there's a lot of people who will want this to be Irish lol.

@@GoldenLight22 There are many Celtic areas in England you know?
@@GoldenLight22 Biased view
@@altelf3079 No there aren't. No such thing as Celts in reality. An Irish historian told me its all made up and is a useful way of being non-English
Great... Please make a live video with this song:) Bye
This is as good as sandy Denny's song "All our days"
Litty
english folk meaning highly colored by celtic tunes, i fact, a real English tune is for example : the secnd british battalion grenadiers
