- Full disclosure this will not work for everyone.
I have a history of being pretty good and burpees and very good at pull ups. Couple that with me ALSO having a history of being a poor runner, and you have this madness.
It does beg the question, can someone get a top 500 score using this method? Top 250?
I'd say it is possible.

I kept in Alexis laugh in the beginning. She wasn’t really sure what I meant when I said “walk the whole thing.”
did you talk this with Brian? he sure can get to the best method with his data skills.
I thought you would at least run over to the pull up bar lmao
Man I should have watched this before I re did this wod, I re did the thing and got the same thing now I'm watching my rank sink like the titanic. Lmao
Dillon just tried this strategy & improved his score by 8 reps!! That moved him up 5,000 people on the leaderboard. 🤯🤯
I improved my score by 13 reps and 2.5 kg thruster by walking. Thank you, Hiller and hello from Ukraine❤️❤️❤️
Hell yeah! Glad it worked for you, and hi from my garage!!
Walking the "starting line to the first burpee pull-up" is absolutely golden.
Bro, your willingness to try unique methods while still being far closer to elite than the rest of us… kudos to you for building the capacity and still having the courage to be vulnerable and take chances.
53 YO male. Ran on my first attempt and got 105. I started the re-do in the gym with my wife judging me, and everyone there laughed and was skeptical but definitely intrigued. I finished with 10 more reps for a 115. Everyone was like WTF!! Thank You
This was very cool. Thanks for posting.
Love the channel. Keep up the great work. Improved score by 11 reps by walking
Awesome! Just wish I saw this earlier. Well done!
Dude awesome tip, walked from start to finish and could keep a good pace on the burpees thoughout.! Thanks bud.
I played to my strengths too, the "laying on my face part of the burpees" Great vid I love it.
Subbed. I did 81 reps and believe I could have improved by 10 reps had I thought to walk the shuttle runs. Looking forward to learning more. Thanks.
This is really interesting. I took the shuttle runs pretty slow the first time because I didn't want to blow up my heart rate for the thrusters (that's my strength) and didn't feel like I went real hard on the burpee pull-ups either because of that. I got 109 reps (which I wasn't happy about) and got 237 on thruster but also felt like I had 15-20lbs in the tank. I'm redoing it today and may try this method. Thanks Hiller!
I am so tempted to redo with this method but won’t matter either way for me. 😂 props to you for experimenting with stuff like this
Improved my score from 140 to 144. Thank you.
After testing a few reps and mini rounds I thought I might be able to complete the 30 bpu but I could not quite keep the pace of my bpu up.
surprisingly though, it felt waaaay worse than the first time
I redid the workout after your shuttle walk strategy, I walked first two and last three, ran the middle 5. And got 15reps more. And 1lb more on thruster. Thx!
Just more info on Will Moorad, he's also been training to do an Ironman Triathlon on top of qualifying for the games. So I imagine he has been putting a lot of focus on his running recently as well. Which comes back to "walk/run to your ability, blast the burpees as hard as you can". His recovery run pace is probably just really high at the moment as a result of it.
Huh I never thought of this but it is a very smart strategy!
Damn. I had decided I was not going to repeat as I was pretty happy with my result. Then I saw this. And Im good at burpee pull ups. Damn you Hiller!!!!! LOL!
Worked all weekend and ended up getting pretty sick. Definitely trying this method today since I haven't done it yet, and my strength is the Thruster anyway 🤣
Omggg this is wild! 😅👏
Man, Thank you so much for this video!!
I followed your strategy and I improved 6 reps. (RX)
Yesterday: 124 reps
Today: 130 reps
Hate running, love burpees and pull ups. Walking = +freakin 20 reps. Thanks for the demo!!
If your pace is 6 seconds per burpee pull-up and 1:30 per shuttle sequence, then you will complete 125 reps in 15 minutes. As Andrew says it is all a balancing act. Most would love a score of 125 and most are capable of the burpee pull-up and shuttle sequences paces mentioned. Problem is, most seems to push one or the other too hard and then both break down. Andrew is a burpee pull-up beast, so keep that in mind in your own reality.
I actually decided before doing this one that I would jogg slow/walk fast. When others were dying on the burpee pullups I was like a duracell on those rofl. Got to 133 feeling quite fresh at the end.
Damn good to be feeling fresh
Good advice.
It was obvious since it was announced to me, and was confirmed while watching Roman & Pat's pace especially in the end.
0 interest doing runs for such little distance, as no one can maintain "intensity" or "relative intensity" on that much turnovers/reps.. The separator is clearly BPU.
Better use it as active recovery and try to focus on going HAM on the BPU
The BEST of the best will be able to do both. But yes it is hard to maintain intensity
I am going to attempt this method today
I’m going to do it today. Thanks Andrew ~
A Super Clydesdale (250+)
My “run” was so much a recovery that it basically was your walk. I think your longer legs are better at walking than I am at shuttle shuffling.
I'm 5'9"!
@@hillerfit 5’5” haha. Robin height.
This makes me so mad because I feel like I fucked up working too hard on the runs. Ugh
Hello, thanks for the tips, i got 11 extra reps this way (from 128 to 139)
Question for you: what do you think about a « fitness test » where you can get a better score by walking more than half of the time…? 🤔
Went from 158 to 174. Thank you Hiller.
I think I heard one of the 23.2 strategy videos mentioning walking your last set of shuttles, did that and it definitely slowed my breathing and heart rate down for the thruster.
Did it help you out???
@@hillerfit sure did! I guess if the CrossFit games is allowing a 1 footstep in the thrusters then why shouldn't we be allowed to walk.
Improved my score by 7 reps… what in the hell just happened. Thank you! Also improved my lift!
This makes me want to redo 23.2A
DO IT -Shia Lebouf
I had a intercostal muscle injury on Tuesday before the 23.2 realese, did on saturday walking because running was causing a lot of pain due to impact, and what i felt was that for my fitness level I wasn’t going to be able to put more reps if could run, i still want to do pain free to be able to confirm this theory.
Just redid. Got 100 reps on Thursday evening. Walked it this morning and got 110. 🤘
Going to go re do. And see how I go
Thank you. I improved 10 reps.
Improved by 14 reps by walking great advice if stuck I could literally do it again now
My scores
Running: 145
Walking: 148
Felt like I had more to push with on the burpees rather than fighting to hold a pace.
This kind of video reminds me of armenhammer 😢 sneaky fit hiller !
I like that guy. So thanks!
This is exactly what I thought about doing. Did the math and could get 160-165 with sprinting the burpees and running the last shuttle run
Holy shit I want to see that score
@@hillerfit just redid it 165reps. Ran the first shuttles and last shuttles walked the rest. The set of 25 and 30 burpees sprinting felt like death
This is a strategy I want to try but are we sure walking won't be considered no-reps by CrossFit?
If ever there was a video crying out for a ‘it’s a bold strategy Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for em’ clip…. This is it 😂
In seriousness, it’s defo reliant on being super strong in the burpee pull up element. Wouldn’t have worked for me I don’t think on that basis.
My call was just to step the burpees from the start and I opted for kipped pull ups pretty much from the set of 10 I think. Not the fastest technique - but it allowed me to keep moving the entire 15mins which was the goal for me personally.
Usually moving the whole time gives the best score at the end!
@@hillerfit usually my biggest downfall haha!
My problem with this is how I would never do this in a normal workout. But here we are all trying to game the system to climb the leaderboard
+5 with walking. Everyone thought I was joking when I said I was going to walk. I had four other people doing it after I improved!!
Got 137 yesterday with doing shuttle runs and trying to maintain burpees. I’m 6’2 so I got some long travel. Will use your walking technique tomorrow and will report back
Long walking strides should be good.
So I just tested it in my house. And it takes me 1:45 for 10. I won’t be able to hold a 4 second burpee 😵💫
I did mock times while holding :25 per 5 and I’d need 1:10 on the shuttle runs to finish the 30’s with :25 for wiggle room lol
Also big ups on that per 5 burpee stat. I broke it down to time per burpee. Same thing but yours is more easier to compute
I did this workout again because if this video and I walked.. didn’t walk the first run after the 5 but I walked the rest.. and got better didn’t get 10% better but I did get 3 more reps.. my slits up to 8 mins were similar but I got to the round of 30 :30 seconds faster lol thanks for the video
My husband redid 23.2 walking and got 3 more reps and 10 more pounds on the thruster. 🙌🏼
Fuck, I don't know what more painful, the workout or the fact that I should of walked it 😨
I improved 22 reps by walking first 2-3 SR, pushed like a maniac on BPU. Total score 120,
Did you fix the clock or get a new one ?
Imagine Roman walking during the live event while Pat ran lol - that's crazy that its more effective than running
JUST DO IT!! -Mr LeBeouf
Dude I suck... I got 115 Walking LOL I got 116 before which mean it is the bupee pull up for me... Love you content
LMAO at the random comment about Alexis!!! Haha
Her laughing?! lol
Hiller! What do we know of Chandler Smith moving to San Diego and if this means what we all think it means? He's the last one standing in that camp...
???
So safe to say it’s not the best test of fitness?
Looks like using performance enhancers made you walk better Andrew
I am utter trash at running, burpees and pull ups.
But as a 53 year old noob this was my first RX'd open.
How many times have you done it overall??
Once. If I had the time I would do it again but I am 260lbs and 6' 3" so Burpees and pull ups are hard.
Who is that in the background
I should’ve done that lol
Hiiller - Now I feel like poop - I only got 116 which means I was not playing to my strength which is nothing on this workout. I am going to redo this with this strategy and report back.
very curious to how much you end up improving
@@ajtamburino7622 0 reps
The walk is real. 8 reps and 12 pound improvement
Welp guess I’m retesting today.
👍
800
As slow as I went, this strategy probably would have got me a better score than trying to run. As soon as I got done I was like "I should have just walked the whole thing" 🤦♂
I should have walked!
9 rep improvement from 128 to 137
20.2 pacing single TTB also created high scores.
I walked to recover from the burpees
Twins
No Rep! It only says walking is allowed in the foundations so no you can’t use it 😉
I find this hilarious that his first shuttle “walk” rep is a no rep… haha
Why is that?
I wonder if walking in the first 3-4 rounds then trying to speed it up on the back half would be beneficial
Edit: nvm you said that lol
So you are saying you should of listened to Taylor? Pretty sure he told you to walk the shuttle before you started on thursday. #SMTP
Taylor knows his shit
No one is talking about the fact that no one over 6' can do this on any commercial rig. Pull up bars are too low to fit the standards.
I'm 6'4" and did it on a commercial rig.....so.... If it's one that doesn't have various bar heights, yet, it is probably an issue.
@@briannieuwenhuis9844 glad to hear you were able to. We had multiple people that couldn’t. I’m 6’3” and could not meet the standard in either of our gyms. Our bars are 7’ & 8’ - see the short I posted recently. Correct me if I’m reading the standard wrong.
@@DanDoormouse Our rig at our gym is a commercial rig, but we probably have 6 different heights, with only half a dozen out of probably 36 bars that I could actually physically use. I understand that if you have a rig with pretty much fixed heights, it's going to be an issue. I just barely made it under the bar I ended up using for the workout. The only real advantage would have been on the scaled version where they are only tapping the bar with both hands. Obviously if they don't really have to jump, or jump way too much, that would be an advantage.
Late to the party on the walking. Like how you act like you didn’t try on shuttles before 30 set 😂
it's stated on the rules at some point during the shuttle run both feet must be in the air off the ground
I had a look and couldn’t find that. Just seems to refer to just both feet across and one hand touch. Happy to be corrected
Where? I looked and failed to find it.
You’re making that up. That’d be a judging nightmare.
That wouldn’t make any sense at all seeing as that’s not how anyone runs.
People would either have to do a high skip, a jump or that thing in an action movie where there’s an explosion behind them and they flail their arms in a large arm circle pattern as they fly forward from the explosion.
@@amorfati4927😂😂 I love this visual
Omg that laugh in the beningging
She didn't know what to expect lol
"Shuttle walks" are no reps😂
Hahahahah fair
Pullups aren’t counted by getting your head over the bar? Fucking crossfit….
