    Thanks for the overview. A quick suggestion that you dont need to flip the lid latch up when operating. The lid will stay closed due to the vacuum then pop open all the way when done. Makes production work a lot faster!

    I hope you love it. My husband bought one several years ago when he was crabbing every year (lots of picked crab meat and crab cakes to freeze!) I thought he was crazy for buying it (expensive), but I’ve eaten my words because we still use it all the time. It does such a great job and I regularly defrost food by submerging in cold water. No leaks (unlike ziploc bags.)

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  4 месяца назад +2

      Yes, being able to submerge will be super handy! zip locks always seem to end up with little holes in the seam once you defrost them.

    Been watching your fascinating videos from Idaho, USA for a few months now and getting exhausted watching all you accomplish. You actually remind me of my younger self when I tried to make virtually everything from scratch, but I never attempted all you do. I don't normally watch many sponsored videos, however, I made an exception, because I could tell this was a product you would use on a regular basis and not something you were simply doing to get a free product we'd never see again. You definitely need a good vacuum sealer. You did an exceptional job! It was much more in depth and interesting than many other sponsored videos. 👍

    I found this video while researching which chamber vacuum to buy to replace one that I wore out. I must say you did an excellent review.
    I agree with another commenter in that there is no need to raise the bar to keep the lid closed while sealing. That is meant to keep the lid closed while not in use. Also, You'll get better seals and save a lot of money if you do switch to the pre made smooth bags.

    • @OurSmallFootprint

      I don't blanch veg Nyssa, I just chop and freeze and mine is tiny compared to this one. Don't think there is anything I have not used the sealer for. Bought one as daughter loves Bubble Tea. Years ago nowhere in Ireland sold it, only UK. Got the powders in bulk style packs and repackaged found they lasted for years the seal is that good. Since then, the sealer has become my best friend. You are going to have such fun lol.

    You could add marinade to your meat and vacuum seal them. Then if you wanted you could boil or sous vi the meat in the bag. You could also reheat things like soup or whatever from the freezer in the bag by boiling. Idk if that would make life easier, but it's an idea. ❤

    Taking everything into account, I don't think it is that expensive and would like to get one.
    You could also vacuum seal important documents and photos to ensure they don't perish with our natural disasters such as cyclones and floods.
    Maybe vacuum seal first aid kit for car. The uses are endless I think.

From what I looked at too, the bags are quite significantly cheaper as well.

      I’ve been experimenting with it lately, trying to figure out the cost comparison to get similar sort of texture for things! I did 1.5 cups in 2L of water last night for a pastisio sauce that worked quite well, but I regularly just add it dried to things like curries to make them creamier when I’ve already added the tinned coconut cream.
      We did find that it didn’t work very well for coffee, but it works really well blended with sugar and cocoa for hot chocolate mix

      @OurSmallFootprint  4 месяца назад

      I'll have to try them, I reckon there would be enough room, there is a plate in there that you can remove to give a bit more depth. I'm not sure how well lug lid jars vacuum seal ?

    • @Helen-readysteadyhome
      @Helen-readysteadyhome 4 месяца назад

      @@OurSmallFootprint i have sealed lug jars no problem just barely finger tight them. I made a vacuum chamber using a large glass Ikea 360 jar with a hole in the lid. I put a flat orange rubber seal on top (the kind that goes on a clip lock preserving jar with the wires) then held the jar sealer against the seal (the kind that fits over a Ball Jar lid) and pressed the button on the vacuum sealer. It worked perfectly.

    Good intention, but the procedure is wrong
    The vacuum needle must reach the green area, if it does not, there will not be enough air to activate the pneumatic pillow that seals the bag.
    If you do not fill the air pillow completely, you will damage the sealing system including Teflon silicone rubber and resistance…
    and the sealing will be of poor quality. You have to use it with values greater than 5 so that the needle marks the green area
    If you only want to seal or close the sleeve of the bag, you should not lower the vacuum. It will take longer but the sealing will be excellent and the sealer will remain in optimal conditions.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  2 месяца назад

      I contacted the supplier for information on how to seal the bags without running the vacuum, but didn't receive a reply, I watched a bunch of videos and running it without the vacuum doesn't seal the bag, nothing moves, there is no clamping to seal the bag etc.
      When sealing product, It always goes up into the green, it was only the sealing of the bags without the product that I could never figure out. I'll give it another go without vacuum, but I tried many times!

  • @caroljane75
    @caroljane75 4 месяца назад

    When sealing meat, freeze it first. You get a better seal. Things like hamburgers and sausages where the seal can crush the food, freeze it first and break the seal before thawing. You get a better end product. Flour and such….i keep mine in glass half gallon jars. What I do keep in seal bags…I put the food in a freezer or storage bag, leave open but fold end down, put in a seal bag and seal it. Works great, good seal, no mess. Wonderful job with the video. That thing looks very heavy. When I seal breaded chicken, it comes out in a big gob. If that happens, leave it. Put in your “oven” and as it heats, gently separate it. Easier when it’s hot. ❤️💚💙🧡🩷🦋🦋🦋

      I was concerned re the sausages, but they seemed ok, we shall see! :D. The breaded chicken was pre frozen, so I'm hoping that because it was flash frozen previously when it defrosts it should pull apart, but I'll just attempt to cook it if needed hehe :D
      It is quite heavy, I definitely will need somewhere for it to live rather than having to move it! Thank you :D

      @@OurSmallFootprint break the seal on the chick and let it thaw in what you plan to cook it in. If you just heat it, it’s so much easier to separate.
