I know this isn't really the type of music you listen to but can you react to the old song, that's my job by Conway twitty or the man I want to be by vern swedin
So Spiritbox is a Canadian Band Started in 2016 by Vocalist Courtney & her Husband Mike (Guitarist), Zev is their drummer and the Josh on bass & Backing vocals (mostly live). Yes that’s her screaming.
She does a one take vocal video, basically her singing the song through in one take live. Definitely recommend you check it out even on your own time. Shes an incredible vocalist.
Definitely gotta have more Spiritbox on the channel. Rule of Nines, Blessed Be, Hurt You, Electric Cross. And if this is your first time hearing something like this I'd also recommend a band called Jinjer, particularly Pisces or Vortex. As for the meaning of this song, its essentially about how if we allow the positive thoughts and our beliefs in ourselves to be as loud as the negative thoughts that hold us back we can accomplish anything ("this could all be yours if you echo birds of prey"). And as for where they come from , original the lead singer was from alabama but then she moved to Canada, met her husband (who's the guitarist), and then they joined a band called iwrestledabearonce til creative differences had them deciding to just start their own band which is how Spiritbox was formed.
I am always blown away by a vocalist who can sing so smoothly but then growl so menacingly. That's part of the reason that Demon Hunter is one of my favorite bands; the way that Ryan can sound so great in either voice. Makes me jealous because every time I switch to growling/screaming, I can do it for maybe a minute or two before I just start coughing lol.
I will tell you now that hearing this live as the whole crowd shouts "This could all be yours!" is one of the most enjoyable things I've ever experienced.
Cool to see you reacte to a Canadian Metalcore band. From Victoria BC. They went viral and exploded over the pandemic, as they should. Courtney and her vocal ability is incredible and almost unmatched as no one sounds like her.
I live in Victoria and it's unfortunate that they don't get more accolades from our city. To be honest I only just heard of them due to the Grammy nomination for Jaded but I'm hooked and love everything they've done.
Fun fact: she was the lead singer for iwrestledabearonce, she’s come a mighty long way on those vocals. Shows what perseverance can do for a person. Her screams/cleans are A1.
This is one of my favorite songs by them! Definitely have to check out their live videos, Courtney is amazing! I'm finally going to see them this September
Haven't watched yet but I know you ain't trashed this. Edit: I knew you'd pass this song. LOL Thanks for showing these guys love, they've become one of my all time favorite bands. Stay layedbak.
Ha, I was watching for your reaction when she was going to do the switch up. The way she can switch up her tone I knew would catch ya off. Talented for sure
Hell yeah layedbak listening to spiritbox. Circle with me is my favorite song by my favorite band. I found them from when they released holy roller as a single in 2020 and they've been my fave band ever since. You gotta listen to the live one take version of this song now, the last 30 seconds or so she has an insanely good blend of screams and singing.
My best friend growing up is the drummer for Spirit box and it's just so cool to see this band get the praise that it deserves he's one of the best drummers of seen in my whole life!
I’ve posted this on Patreon a few times, great that he’s reacted to it this week! I’ve also posted Jinjer - Pisces a few times… it came in the top 4 several times but never won. Now he doesn’t do a poll and chooses one of the requests at random. Personally would have preferred him to do Pisces first as the shock factor is NEXT LEVEL!! Great reaction though, love Spiritbox and can’t wait for their next new music
Nice to hear you enjoyed your first time to SPIRITBOX! They just finished their first headline tour recently and I saw them for the first time live and they were very awesome! They’re still sort of new but they are so great in what they do in their music. They’ve undergone a change in their music style and it’s great progress as well. Next song by then I highly recommend would be “Blessed Be”.
SpiritBox is out of Vancouver BC. Courtney LaPlant has an amazing voice, and that is her with the roar. The best roaring is when you can understand what is being said. She is famous for having perfect pitch, and recording most of her songs on the first playthrough, like this one.
Even if you don’t post a reaction to it you owe it to yourself to check out her one take studio version of this, she takes the song to another level and it shows off all of her vocal talent it’s unbelievable, you need to hear it
From my understanding of the lyrics, it's about becoming popular. Courtney has worked a very long time in the industry, starting her first band in Louisiana (I WRESTLED A BEAR ONCE). the band was an absolute great time and put on some great shows, however it never made it too big. Courtney wrote the song because for once, a band she was apart of became somewhat famous. Being in the spotlight "the weight of the martyr", its something every artist wants from the moment they begin writing but you have to give up so much to have it. The birds of prey being people not wanting them to be in the spotlight. It's a whole lot about people trying to become the one in the spotlight and take down the one who is. She's an extremely talented songwriter and deserves her moment of fame. If you want a song that isn't as metal by the band I'd suggest reviewing "Constance" by them. That song had me in tears the first time I listened too it. Love your videos brother. Keep spreading the love. P.S: Howard Jones (The lead singer of Killswitch Engage) dropped a song with ONI last year called "Aura". Give it a go for me!
They a Canadian Prog metal band formed after the xoiple got married they had national act called I Wrestled a Bear Once. She is the known as the Queen of Scream.
The one take videos of her are where its at 100%. Music sounds amazing but seeing her nail her songs in 1 take is awesome. Sometimes I prefer the way the one takes sound over the standard release
My fave band for the last few years. Courtney and the guitarist Mike were in a band called Iwrestledabearonce, got married and split off to form SpiritBox. So fire
Oh n the DON'T YOU EVER TOUCH ME, Corey was graped by a 16yo when he was 10yo, and did the counseling live on Internet you can see it and it will help anyone trying to understand why they feel and act the way they are great raw ❤❤❤❤ much love to Corey for being himself, a rare quality ❤
"Never heard a woman sing like that" .... Then you must check out queen of metal Tatiana Shmayluk with the band Jinjer!! I´d suggest to start off with either "Teacher Teacher" or "Perennial" live at Wacken ❤🔥
I would recommend Of mice and men - bones exposed Asking Alexandria - the death of me both versions Jinjer - Pisces Slaughter to prevail - demolished Lorna shore - to the hellfire and pain remains 1, 2 and 3
Man, you gotta check out Sleep Token’s ‘The Summoning.’ You got metal, progressive, and some sexy funk! The entire album, ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ is soooo good. Definite funk and hip-hop vibe, for sure.
You should give a listen to "The Light," by Seventh Wonder. Progressive metal band out of Sweden. That's one of their newer songs (from an album that just came out last year) but they've been around for over 15 years and consistently release quality material. This tune is an absolute master class in musicianship and songwriting.
Hey there mate, first time viewer, thank the algorithm. To answer your question "what is this song about?" - Courtney, the vocalist; wrote this song as a sort of internal struggle with the band's pretty rapid rise to fame. - The idea of imposter syndrome (where you feel your fame is not earned or that you are somehow unworthy of the success you achieve in life). - She has many struggles mentally and wanted to capture that turmoil in a song. - Feeling "the weight of a martyr" is about being somebody that people look up to, being an inspiration, but also how that can be a burden if you give into negative thoughts from the critics, because people also love to watch you fail. - The "birds of prey" represent the people in life who want to pull you down. - "Traitor cut down the altar" is about how your imposter syndrome can actually manifest itself into self-destructive behaviours and attitudes that will ruin your fame and success if you let them. - Lastly "Circle with me" I believe is a metaphor for the different parts of her mind sort of spiralling with overthinking, this cycle of good and bad thoughts and how they kind circle above your life like vultures.

To answer your question "what is this song about?"
- Courtney, the vocalist; wrote this song as a sort of internal struggle with the band's pretty rapid rise to fame.
