    Is it the same concept on surf rods?

      If you are building a conventional surf rod, then yes the same concept applies. We suggest moving your stripper guide a little further out from the reel when building on a long surf rod. If you are building a spinning surf rod, then we have a video on spacing spinning rod guides as well

    I thought you didn't want the line touching the blank

      This is true! That's why guide tubing is so useful. Mike uses them to slide the guides up and down the blank until he finds the best layout. He is also using a thicker string to illustrate the line and make it more visible for the video. In reality you would be using a much thinner line like braid.

    single guide: only for spinning rod
    double foot guide: for conventional and spinning.
    set up all double foot guides on conventional slow rod for me.
