I just have ordered a seedling of this orchid species. I hope I have better luck with this, than the other who died😢 Thanks very much for your videos, they are helpful, as a guy telling me what to do, and you can see the result, can be much more helpfull than text😊

Good luck with it! If you can grow Cymbidiums you'll be fine with this one!

I received my first Cymbidium, an older one. So upon doing research found your video. I'm impressed with all your books. You must have a deep love of reading. Even the stacks in front of the one full bookshelf look so familiar! I'm in Tokyo (yes, Japan) and the weather must be somewhat similar though we have terrific humidity in high summer. (Which is not so great for my books, but may make the orchids very happy.) So I'm looking forward to the the next 2-3 years with my first journey down an orchid digression.

If you do merch will you do a t-shirt that says "I'm a terracotta kind of guy"?! I am definitely a terracotta kind of gal too. Most of my orchids are in old handmade terracotta pots and I love them.

Thank you Matthew for your informative and helpful video.
Those flowers on your Cymbidium erythrostylum are very cute and pretty.
I'll be taking your advice and will now be moving my Cymbidium (larger type) to a more suitable location.
Have got a bag of Orchid mix ready to divide it, but I must say it's proven itself to be a tough little plant.
    Have a great week.

Thanks for watching! They are tough! And do like to be pot bound. Good luck!

Thank you! Just discovered your channel. Also from Melbourne so this is in invaluable information thanks. My cymbidiums are badly neglected I’m afraid so these are great tips!

Thanks for finding me! Funnily enough I just performed an 'orchid rescue' for a friend of some very old and neglected Cymbidiums from a house that is about to be sold. The video will be scheduled in a couple of weeks.

That is a lovely species. I've not gotten into the Cyms, only because most of the good hybrids and species need a cool period to flower that we can't provide in south Florida. I did, however, buy a seedling of a species recently. Not because it is terribly interesting to look at. No, it was only because of the name. Cymbidium rectum. It's one of those names that makes you giggle. It should flower here, if I can get it up to blooming size (it is really small ATM).

I love seeing the carport again. I know you are a CLAY POT guy but how do you keep the pots so nice and clean on the outside? The pots never seem to have white efflorescence or any algae growing on the outside.

Depends where they are! The ones out in the rain get mossy and green but that doesn't bother me. I love a 'tired' patinated pot! And any that are sitting on the ground do get dirty after heavy rain as the soil splashes up and sticks to the outside, but again, that dries and falls off. The white is from salts in the pot material and does tend to stop coming out after a while! Thanks for watching!

Well, I gotta order one soon! Will go well with a taller Sharry Baby.

Just ordered one but it is a seedling of a cross. Perhaps in 3-4 years I wiil have a few seedings.

Thanks for watching. Yes - if it's a single growth new plant - another two years. Worth it though - FABULOUS flowers! Good luck!
