You have laid out the supporting points very clearly and concisely, for those who know how to think. Most common responses i have heard are: 1. This is how it has always been done, surely everybody can't be wrong. 2. The translation is also taught during the Hifz process, so they know and understand what they are reciting. 3. There are lots of Madaris that teach the proper knowledge, you just don't know about them due to your limited knowledge. 4. Even if you don't understand it, listening to the Quran's recitation and reciting it yourself is every Muslim's duty. (Something is better than nothing) There are many more replies and they all seem to shift the blame on me being in the influence of shaitan for questioning the quality of education in madrassas, and for trying to discourage the Quran 's recitation. I have so much to say on this topic but I always find myself fighting alone and unable to cope with the bombardment of nonsensical, passive-aggressive replies and comments. So much so that i just start agreeing with them just to move on and change the topic.

Brother, can you help me? I am trying to understand salah. You have said in your videos that it is not the act of standing and prostrating while reciting Quran. But in Surah 4:102, Allah is clearly referring to some action of worship when He says, “ When they prostrate themselves, let the other group stand guard behind them. Then the group that has not yet prayed will then join you in prayer-and let them be vigilant and armed.” I would just like to fully understand what salah is because if it is a pagan act then I don’t want to do it anymore but if it is what Allah asks of us then I want to perform it.

I think you are describing what's called a "cargo cult", after Polynesian natives who created elaborate airport-related rituals after seeing US soldiers building a make-shift airport and having supplies dropped from the skies. But the other point I wanted to make was Bloom's Taxonomy which is like this pyramid of understanding. At the base is simple recognition, followed by understanding, application, analyzing, evaluation and at the highest level, creation of new knowledge. I think most Muslims are at the recognition level, they do not 'read' the Kora with the hope over travelling the pyramid but rather it puts them on a path to achieving the satisfaction of their nafs in a kind of opiate-induced emotional high. Dishing out random spiritual highs in random blocks of sound bites. But the reason all this is actually encouraged, my theory is, is that it feeds the dependency people have on the ulumah. Unfortunately it is not possible to fix this problem without understanding why people are drawn into such cult-like behaviour. If you are failing at modern life when you can't do operate a computer, are fearful of science or city-life is too complicated, or you simply broke your toe and after an 'explanation' to put your life into context then you need a place to withdraw to where you can just shut off your brain and absorb a kumbaya moment.. you know.. like a crutch. Not criticising the need for that, but there have been, and still are, some sick psychos out there who are exploiting people and getting them to do all sorts of things by using religion. I believe in religion, just it needs to be done responsibly.

Brother, you are confusing the art of stylized recital, Qira'at with reading it for guidance. Of course as an art form it expresses the beauty and the magic of the Qurran, and as Muslims we are proud of it. At the same time it's true that Quran is a book of guidance and there are plentry of people who read Quran and comprehend it and take guidance from it. It will be stupid of me to put such exact round numbers on how many. I dont know.
