Thanks for shedding light on these rifles. I load mine with the .268” projectiles from Grafs and they work much better than the Prvi. They also stock the .300” for the 7.35 Carcano.
All the UPC #’s I’m seeing are all numerical with no letters Edit: Ah okay, that’s for the projectiles themselves, PPU still insists on loading with the .264 bullets, most likely due to the amount of carcano’s rebarreled to .264 in Italy.
Thanks. Got a bid in for a Carcano. We'll see. I was watching Ian on Forgotten Weapons talk about Carcano's too, but not from the perspective of a guy who owns and shoots one maybe so much. Knowing the ammo really helps. Great videos. I appreciate what you're doing.
A lot has changed with the 6.5 Carcano since I made this video. Hornady stopped making th 6.5 bullet that people were using. Steinel has a lot more types of 6.5 Carcano ammo, like cast bullets.
@@BattlefieldCurator Still, even a dated video does provide a lot of information, and by doing some clicking I sort of learned what you just said. While researching the Carcano though, I got a great fascination the Vetterli. Call me fickle.
My first " high power" rifle was a 6.5 carcano. With Norma ammo. My neighbor would borrow it to go hunting on Arkansas. He said they always knew it was him shooting cause of the blast carcano makes on the woods
Thanks for the video. It's good to see someone make a informative video about the Carcano. I'm curious would you be willing to do a video on the 7.7x58 for the Type 99 Arisaka?
@@BattlefieldCurator Now that I can't find the Website on the internet. But basically, when the Western Cartridge Co (WCC) copied the military issue Cartridge in the late 40s early 50s; they did so exactly. The long bullet just fills the barrel's Grooves; with the fmj open base expanding to fully fill the .268" grooves. Rather than do that, Hornady cheaped out by taking their .264 Soft Nose bullet, and expanding it out to .268, i.e Bore Size. The Problem being, that since it's a Solid Base (closed base) bullet, overpressure can be created; causing Bolts needing to be pounded open on stuck Cases. Hornady apparently did however reduce the Bullet to 267", which for many/most Carcanos is still too large.
I would try to keep it original, and it would still be able to keep the 6rd clips. Limits the amount of modification. But it's your rifle and just my suggestion. could also scrap the parts. Carcano parts are desired for restoration projects
@@BattlefieldCurator ive done a little fiddling, the 7.62x39 fit the bolt face and extractor. Not much on the rifle that anyone would want, warped stock near the forend, bad bore. It was horribly bubbad before i got it, the reciever and magazine are the only good parts. I figure if i can sand out the barrel channel and rebarrel it for a more common round would be the only other option than the scrap bin.
i do not hink you mentioned any thing about the moronic sight picture of these rifles. newbies need to learn about that and it might help some one to decide if they want to buy 1 or not
Water bottle moves in the direction to which the bullet came... Likely because pressurized water is escaping through the larger exit hole. Sort of like a famous president's brain tissue.
Looking into getting one of these. Ammo for it is expensive tho. Seems like it gots some power. U think its as powerful as 7.62x39 or more than 223 or 556?
Glad you asked… we’ve been doing some more tests with this caliber. We tested Steinel ammo round nose at around 1800 fps and PPU FMJ at around 2200 fps. Video on those soon, but these were our tests from last week: 6.5 Carcano Bullet Penetration Test ruclips.net/video/h5gs0c-Xq2g/видео.html

They were ~.2665".
Hmmm I should find out what ammo Earnest Jiminez used for that world record shot with a Carcano 🤔

Yes, attaining the proper sight picture on the Carcano platforms are a bit tricky.
Not true for Combat Shooting.
Carcanos used the normal SP; with the Front Sight at the TOP of the Rear Sight V !
Mr Jimenez can be found as MAG30th on youtube. He does amazingly long range shots with C&R rifles.
