The Seige of Vicksburg is known as the turning point of the Civil War. The Confederacy was winning the war up until General Pemberton surrendered to General Grant. The Union took control of the river and basically starved them into surrendering. It actually cut the Confederate army in half, allowing the Union to ultimately win the war. Interesting fact: It was on July 4, 1863, when they surrendered and the City of Vicksburg did not celebrate the 4th of July for the next 81 years.
Thank you for watching and for the information about Vicksburg! If you haven't subscribed, I'd love for you to and to be a part of our community. I appreciate your info and support!
The confederacy wasn't actually winning the war. The union was pretty much winning the western theatre and the eastern theatre was much more a status quo since the confederacy fought a defensive battle.
My home town, I worked there for 26 years, retired Captain Vicksburg Fire department. Thanks for the video. Wish you could have driving by Station 7, my old station, the oldest active firehouse in the state.
What an honor to get your comment. Thank you for your civil service! I can imagine you’ve seen every inch of that city. I have only been there one time but plan on returning to do a better and updated video. I love those river towns. I’ll be sure to check out Station 7 next time. Thank you again for watching! I hope you come back in the future 👍🏻🙂
My greaat uncle was a leader of the Jewish community in Vicksburg, owned a plumbing business and lived until 1972 or so. His name was Morris Rothstein. Did you ever hear of him? He was called "Mister Mose."
Nice Video, Robert Johnson mentions Vicksburg in the song “Traveling riverside blues”. “I got womens in Vicksburg clean on into Tennessee.” I’ve always loved that line. :-)
This was my first time visiting as well. It seems like a great river city! Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for watching and commenting. Hope to make it back sometime soon 🙂
Next time you in Vicksburg go to the coca cola museum inside is they serve old fashioned ice cream and Vicksburg was the first one to place Coca-Cola in a bottle
I was born and lived in Vicksburg until I was 15. At 5:33 you see the opening to the flood wall along the river. When I was a kid, during the flood of 1973 they had the wall closed off but they had a ramp where you could walk up there and see the swollen Old Man River going by.
If you ever find yourself in the area I would be honored to give you a personal tour! The McRaven house is so neat. I plan on doing a whole video and visit on just that location one day. Vicksburg is full of history and secrets. Thanks for stopping in Brenda! 🙂👍🏻
Hi holly! So much to do. Check out the national military park and riverfront in Vicksburg. Also down the road be sure to check out the ghost town of Rodney Mississippi. Awesome little place. There are also a few casinos in Vicksburg if you are into that. Speaking of ghosts the McRaven house in Vicksburg is a really awesome place to check out. As far as eating I really couldn’t tell you but there are a lot of shops and restaurants downtown. I hope you have a great time!
Yes! Picayune is on my to do list soon. New augusta isn’t far from me either so it’s a possibility. Please be sure to subscribe and check back soon 👍🏻🙂

Why? I’m considering moving there.

@@JerryHunt92 nothing here but casinos and the military park. And the crime rate has gotten worse than Jackson, which is BAD.
Missing the Mississippi Miss, or Sir but love your vids.

You know, when they're chem-trailing smaller towns like Vicksburg we're all in trouble.
See them every single day lmao
that odd sound is distracting
