અમેરિકામાં વર્ષોથી તમારો વેલ સેટલ્ડ બિઝનેસ હોય તો પણ ક્યારેક અણધારી તકલીફ આવી શકે છે, અને આવું જ કંઈક થયું છે વર્ષોથી અમેરિકામાં સેટલ થયેલા તેમજ પોતાનો સ્ટોર ચલાવી રહેલા એક ગુજરાતી દંપતી સાથે, જેમના માટે હાલ સર્વાઈવ થવું પણ અઘરૂં બની રહ્યું છે. કોરોના પછી બદલાયેલી પરિસ્થિતિને કારણે હાલ આર્થિક સંકડામણમાં આવી ગયેલા ગુજરાતી દંપતી સીમા પટેલ અને અશ્વિન પટેલ ઈલિનોયના ઈવાન્સ્ટન સિટીમમાં પોતાનો સ્ટોર ચલાવે છે, જે 800 મેઈન સ્ટ્રીટમાં આવેલો છે. અશ્વિન અને સીમા પટેલની આખી સ્ટોરી ઈવાન્સ્ટન રાઉન્ડ ટેબલ.કોમ નામની એક લોકલ વેબસાઈટ પર પબ્લિશ થઈ છે, જેમાં જણાવાયું છે કે આ કપલ 1980માં ગુજરાતથી પહેલા કેનેડા મૂવ થયું હતું, અને ત્યારબાદ તેઓ 1990ના અરસામાં અમેરિકા આવ્યા હતા અને ઈલિનોયની કૂક કાઉન્ટીમાં સેટલ થયા હતા. અહીં જ તેમણે લાંબો સમય કામ કર્યા બાદ આખરે 1998માં ડેલ્ટા ડિસ્કાઉન્ટ સ્ટોર શરૂ કર્યો હતો અને આ પતિ-પત્ની એકલા હાથે જ આખો સ્ટોર મેનેજ કરતા હતા.

Been there and done that in Illinois itself (35 years). Sometimes it is better to bite the bullet, cut your losses and move on. With minimum wage high and good employees difficult to get, they might be better off working somewhere, less hours, better hours, no investment and a better work life balance. Money is important but look at what you are loosing out at the same time. If you have enough to survive (he is 65 and can apply for Social Security), just quit the rat race.

Did you read carefully what I wrote? I am in the US fir last 45 years and owned a 24 hour 7-Eleven for years and then another retail franchise for 35 years and 7 days week. That’s why I said I have been there and done that.
That business is not only not lucrative, it is a dangerous occupation
and wouldn’t recommend to anyone !
