A great case study that has only been touched on, unfortunately. Would've loved a little more industry-relevant information on how the collaboration would play out and what that means for the steel industry and its trajectory for the future. Also seemed that the interviewee was a little unsure of the schedule of the project, as well as not exactly being able to pinpoint a future space they would like to be in, in relation to their new partner. Not something you should be unsure of if you, as a company, have done an extensive vetting of such a third-party. A "vision" (or perhaps more accurately, a long-term goal) for Bluescope Steel could be along the lines of sustainable value-creation for its end-user, derived from Tada's continuous inputs into improving the efficiency in which data is processed and used to optimise the operations of Bluescope Steel's outputs, which could be (in the future) relayed to other areas of their supply chain (areas that could provide unique and distinctive competitive advantages - as the steel industry is becoming increasingly competitive). Tada's vision could be to strive for continuous co-value creation, by developing Bluescope Steel into a key account of their own, thereby ensuring continued business and expertise development of their own in the steel manufacturing arena.
It sounded a little like the subject case is hopping on the bandwagon of data analytics and optimisation for the sake of ensuring it stays up to date with current trend, rather than for the sake of truly scrutinising its own unique capabilities and saying 'how can we turn those into a truly competive ability' through the use of modern tech (like AI) in a way that competitors may find hard to imitate.
Unfortunately not able to see behind the scenes and find these answers, which they most likely already posses - as they are both hughly capable companies I'm sure. But the answers based on the assumptions of this excerpt would lead me to a conclusion of the above sort.
Thanks for your videos. Please keep them coming!
A procurement-relevant topic/case study is something that I'm really excited for in the near future.
