Oracle of Light, the Alexa skill to talk to chatGPT
It’s great to see Amazon improving the quality of the AI. I currently use both Amazon & Google devices. My Echo devices hear me better, sound better and are faster to respond so they are great for basic control of lights etc but for question answering Google is noticeably better which is why I have both devices in most rooms. I really hope this is Amazon catching up or even leapfrogging Google in terms of question answering because I’d love to get to the point when I can only have one flavour of smart speaker in my house that does everything well.
I have both too because Alexa is sometimes just plain AWFUL at answering questions that should be a cinch for it to grab info on (from Google, Wikipedia or otherwise).
Anything I can easily Google or ask ChatGPT to answer, Alexa should be able to answer correctly. And Alexa needs to understand context as well as ChatGPT does - as well as be good at staying on topic when I ask related questions, the way a person does and the way ChatGPT does.
Granted, ChatGPT is NOT reliable to get accurate information yet but the way it communicates is far more human and intelligent in nature.
I truly just wish Google, Amazon, MIcrosoft and ChatGPT could all just get together and make one mind-blowingly effective AI that we could all use and enjoy. Alas, greed...

@@RevolutVoice yea I got this & use it a lot, it's awesome. what I did was just set up a routine triggered by the phrase "let's talk" then had Alexa tell oracle of light to greet me, which in turn starts the conversation. it feels really seamless

Wenn überhaupt ich bin wirklich gespannt wann das zu uns nach Deutschland kommt. Apropos funktioniert die Funktion bei Alexa bei euch schon und bevor ich den Kommentar abschicken ich hab ja meine Frage eigentlich schon gestellt aber eigentlich möchte ich noch dazu sagen, dass Chat-GPT hat keine Persönlichkeit. Alexa hat aber eine und das wird ja auch Meinungen haben.

Das ist gut aber manchmal auch etwas Roboter Haft aber ich glaube bei Alexa sehe ich Potenzial wegen der Menschlichkeit man muss sich ja mal die vorgefertigten Antworten ansehen.

I understand what you mean, but I'm honestly surprised it already works as well as it does, a solid percentage of the time.
Sometimes when I wake up and my voice is all husky and muffled sounding (even to me), I'm shocked that Alexa hears me ask what time it is and to turn on lights, etc.
I can barely understand my own voice until I get up and get a drink of water lol. So the new and improved Alexa will probably be impressive and surprisingly good at times and in ways, but lacking in other ways/times.
EVENTUALLY, AI will probably be almost indistinguishable from talking to an actual human person.
And while I'm sure we all look forward to it working better, that will probably be almost scary at that point.
But it's coming... And probably sooner than we think.

I've been using a few chapt gpt language models and they reply very human like.
With Alex's new voices it does work this good.

Can Alexa's voice volume be set independent of music playing. Someone I crank up a tune and then when I ask Alexa something her voice is deafening. I only wanted the music louder not Alexa's voice.

I AGREE!! And the opposite is true too. I actually had a situation recently, where I set my Echo Show 8 where I sleep to Volume 4 setting, so I could sleep to some classical/ambient music.
And then my mom, whom I take care of and is handicapped with cancer, tried to send an Announcement through the device and I couldn't hear it in my sleep.
I felt bad when I woke up the next day and she said she had needed help, but I didn't hear the announcement bc I needed my speaker quiet for the music.
I TRULY wish there were separate volumes because it CAN have real world consequences (and DOES, such as in my example).

I love to see the advancement and the implementation of LLM into daily Alexa. Still, it somehow sounds strangely robotic and artificial. It needs much improvement in the flow of speech to sound one day natural. But I am totally curious.

All devices - the Alexa brain is in the cloud. The speaker is basically just a fancy 2 way radio

And yet yesterday Alexa played audio in a room it shouldn't, and refused to stop the music when I asked it to stop multiple times. Checking the app, it heard me, it understood me, it didn't want to listen to me.

I’m sure these are just the first few steps in the direction they’re going, but come on….the same old mono tone Alexa voice? OpenAI’s model sounds more human-like and sounds more fluid, even taking slight pauses in it’s speech to give it a more authentic sound. Keep plugging Amazon. I’m sure you’ll get it right with time.

Never. Because anything that remotely comes close will still just be a cheap imitation and will never be the real thing. Plus, hearing a dead loved one’s voice after they are gone can prolong the grieving process and make it harder to move on. It’s a novel concept for sure, and one I’m sure we all wish we had access to, but it’s not practical and not healthy.

I assume it's some sort of leather-bound Kindle; no one reads books on paper anymore do they - at least in the world that Kindle marketing would like us all to be living in?
Many people do read in paper books. But you're right. It could have been a Kindle there.

I have been an ebook convert since 1999 (not far off a decade before the first Kindle was released) but even though I read novels exclusively via the Kindle app on my phone or tablet now I still can't really cope with technical books in anything other than paper form since that allows me to flick backwards and forwards between diagrams, equations etc when I'm trying to understand something.
