like why is she acting like what this child is saying does not make since or she don't see what she's talking about. Come'on now, AINT NOTHING "NEW" UNDER THE SUN!!!!!😒
She’s beautiful/ and a fucking kid she will grown into more beauty/ I really don’t like when y’all lame ass RUclips people judge children/ wait til she grow up to her final look !!! Damn
No not really. It doesn't matter if someone is light skin, doesn't mean they don't get judged by both white and black people. There are beautiful dark chocolate girls as well as light skin girls, just because the media holds light skins up as the image of beauty does not mean people only gravitate to that. Both sides of the color spectrum deal with issues.
Shadow Flewellen both sides of the spectrum deal with issues but the issues are different. So as a light skin person she would not see the issues that she faces as a darkskin person and if the roles were reversed it would be vice versa. But if you are saying the issues that light skin people face is in any comparison to what a darkskin person goes through you are sadly mistaken
@@twentyseven- I am saying that. I myself find dark skin women extremely attractive, there are many beautiful dark skin woman in this world, same with the other side. Both sides face issues the main ones having to do with being BLACK. I think if a person from either side were to say there issues have weight both sides would be validated.
Shadow Flewellen you may find darkskin women attractive but that’s your personal opinion. However society as a whole does not have respect for people with darkskin. Not only black people. Asian people and Hispanic people have the same issues. For years light skin has been seen as superior. many light skin people wouldn’t even consider themselves “black” they would refer to themselves as “light skin” or “mixed”. Many people hide their black side and only say what they are mixed with. Or have babies with white or lighter skin people so their kids don’t have dark skin and coarse hair. There are also many people who have no trouble saying the would never date a darkskin person so just because a light skin persons issues would be “validated” still DOES NOT mean it compares to what a darkskin person goes through on a daily basis. I SAID WHAT I SAID.
Majority rules!. I am brown skin and there is a difference in treatment of lighter skinned black women and darker skin women. I know that when I was younger and hung out with my dark skinned cousin, the guys would ignore her and always ask for my phone number. Thankfully I was young and smart and did not get a big headed about it!!.
Her child is right. She needs to stop making her feel like she’s crazy and realize that her daughter’s observations are accurate. Darker skin women have realized this a long time ago
and not only is she darkskin but she’s plus size so her mother isn’t understanding bc she doesn’t know how it feels bc she has had lightskin and skinny privilege most of her life
Erica may be light skin bit she's not skinny. She's a mom trying to find the words to say to comfort and empower her daughter. Us mom don't always have an answer at that moment. It's heartbreaking for a mom to see their child struggling or hurting. She's not trying to make her think she's crazy.
She is already pretty but wait for few years.... she will become more beautiful. Most of those girls who are left out in school have the best transformation in college years....
Yea my jaw dropped when she said "fat friend". Way to make your daughter, who is clearly already self conscious referring to herself as the "chubby friend", feel good about herself smdh
This girl is hyper aware. I believe Erica didn’t know how to approach her with the truth. It’s deep when your child is telling you a very real perspective.
Maybe Erica doesn’t want to accept it that what benefited her in a way is a strike against her daughter . Erica might not be the one to deliver this message maybe her grandmother or the dark skin aunt she was talking about
You can’t KNOW what you’ve never had to deal with. That’s why l’m glad my momma told me the truth EARLY in life. I married a brown skin man from a lightskin biracial family like mine. My girls are light as me. It matters when you have daughters!!!
Wow. She said you are light-skinned you don't understand. Truth from a young person. These young men see muscians, rappers, BBall & Football players dating the Kardashians, Amber Roses, mixed, light skinned or white women. I'm not hating on these women because that are beautiful black women or women of color; but men are holding them up as the ONLY standard of beauty. There are just a few darker skinned women that are married into this group of professional "that we see in the public eye". We don't normally see the BBall players that are married to darker skinned sisters.
Bruh your bugging there's plenty of niggas all colors like lightskin niggas for example we always try and go for a black female but they look at us like we stupid and try and act hostile talk about a nigga be disrespectful and act like all they want is blacker colored guys and it happens all the time it happened to me too many and I'm lightskin handsome and trying to show these chocolate girls I really want them I'll wife a chocolate girl but it's like they don't want no body so then niggas stop going after there ungrateful ass cuz clearly they don't know good when they see it
That’s why you can’t hate on dark skinned women with White or Hispanic men like............. If black men ain’t checking for them wtf are they waiting for?
Well, my mom is light skinned & she had problems with our fam. U see my mom is mixed & she took after her father. She looked just like him. Sooooo, when she was growing up as a kid our fam said " this white girl aint my fam" bc she was pale skinned with hazel brown eyes & sandy blonde hair. Soooo, so i think this isnt a light skin brown skin thing. I think its jealousy at the end of the day.
ThaNatural Goddess I felt the same way. Most of my close friends were light skinned and got all the attention. I was the brown friend who got overlooked.
#metoo I was the dark skin one in the house and I felt "not cute" but when I was 15 years old my grandmother's bestfriend called me over to her because she heard someone call me "burnt toast" so looked me straight in my eyes and said, "your black is beautiful" and don't let no one tell you anything different. From that day forward I know, I believe that my dark skin is beautiful and that black girls really ROCK.....
sadly the daughter is right. ALL the men in her family including her own Father likes light skin women so she doesn't feel as beautiful as her friends 😢😒😢 that's a very real topic and she need to talk to the men of the family and ask why!!?? i think your beautiful. Anybody that don't agree kick them out ur friend tribe.👑
Miss T it’s clear...you’re stupid. I’m not talking about Krista. I’m talking about the stupid assertion made by the original poster. Oh and btw I’m brown skin and far from angry. I just don’t like stupid people like you and the original poster.
Miss T dumb ass the OP made the assumption that the father likes light skin women that’s why Krista is struggling. So what her father married a lightnskinned woman does that mean he finds dark women unattractive?
Also, if you notice...when the daughter asked if she was ugly, Erica's lips said no but she shook her head yes. Then in her confessional, when she was saying she only sees beauty in her daughter's eyes...her head shook no. We do our children no favors with false sincerity. In a world that is already going to try and tare them down with hate, the least we can provide is honesty, help overcoming the difficulties that they face, and unconditional love. I was chubby as a kid and my father pointed it out. My mother would tell him to leave me alone. Now that I am older, I appreciate his honesty. Someone who cares tells you the truth...no matter how much it hurts. But let me be clear, there is also a classy and respectful way to go about delivering that honesty. If Erica's daughter has an issue with her weight, there is nothing wrong with her mother helping her to improve that in a healthy way. I don't believe that she is doing her daughter any favors in the long run by invalidating her concerns. That is just how I feel as someone who can personally relate to the "chubby" portion of the discussion, and as someone who empathizes with and knows the impact of the discussion as a whole.
Mom please listen to her. please she’s telling you how she feels . this is real to her. I understand what she’s talking about. I am praying for both of you beautiful lady’s
Esther Thank You for your comment, Colorism and Shaming heavy girls go unnoticed, and our younger sisters hold that pain in because no one wants to address it. Peace and Love To You and Your Sister. 💞
Esther I kept saying the same thing in my head.... Erica, just listen to her! Although I agree with Erica’s responses, just let her get it out. She’s definitely not imagining what’s going on around her. I know as a mom it breaks your heart and you don’t want to hear your child say those things but it is so critical that they can, especially with you. I also wonder if she’s also processing the fact that Zaya and Wozie are also light skinned. Praying for them also.
Deon Stewart I'm not hear to criticize, however look at what you wrote...you said you're dark BUT you're pretty. It's as if you're lamenting her color and insinuating that it's bad. Then you say she's pretty which you see as a compliment, but it really isn't. The same thing with your bigger comment. The old folks used to say " She sho is BLACK, but she pretty though". Her skin color should not be an issue. Please just think about that.
Damn! This made me cry!! My daughter is 8 and she’s always asked is her hair is pretty and she’s always talking her skin color! I’m light and she’s dark and ask why?? So everyday I tell her, she beautiful, smart, strong and courageous!! This world is so cruel
Also it helps if you have family and friends to tell her how beautiful she is. I use to do it to my cousin beautiful dark skin daughter. She had a hard time because her mother and sister was light skin.
Charnell Lanay Vlogs yes its so sad the way this world is set up and how man and society put darker skin women down. I have a friend whose brown skin and she refuses to date dark skin guys anymore not cus she dont like them but because she wants someone lighter than her. She says she doesn't want her child to go threw the same thing she went thru and I totally understand but its sad that you have to feel that way. I first hand know what she went thru and it can really break your spirit down and get to you.
Judy Jackson Yes your right! I have really awesome friend! That always tell her she’s beautiful!! Before my mommy passed 7 months ago she use to tell her she is beautiful
Once she started calling out the couples. I knew she was serious and she had the receipts. I wish her Mom hadn't lied and pretended she was delusional.
I remember coming to the same conclusion when a younger cousin kept saying she was too dark. I told her she was gorgeous because she is. The girl could be a model. But then I thought about our male cousins her age and all but one were dating light skinned black girls, mixed girls or non-black girls. Also boys at her school
ROSA POWE RECEIPTS YES... THAT'S EXACTLY WHY IT'S SO SAD PEOPLE STOP SAYING THE LORDS PRAYER AND ADD TO THE PRAYER FOR WHAT HELP THEY NEED IN THIS WORLD HERE OR THERE, YAHWEH AND HIS SON IS LISTENING OUT FOR THOSE LIKE ERICA'S DAUGHTER, AND SHE NEEDS HELP, PRAY TO HER FATHER IN HEAVEN TO HELP EASE HER HEART AND ENDURE WHAT SHE GOING AND PRAY FOR GOD'S KINGDOM TO COME AND WIPE OUT ALL SORROW PEOPLE GO THROUGH...YES IT'S COMING AND THOSE TAUGHT IT'S IN YOUR HEART IS WRONG, THEY WILL NEVER KNOW IT AND SEE PARADISE IF THEY AIN'T THERE....ALL HATERS, EVIL, WICKED PEOPLE WON'T SEE PARADISE - LIKE THOSE THAT DEAL WITH BEING OVERLOOKED, HATED ON, GOT NO LIMBS, CAN'T TALK, CANT MOVE ,DIE TO SOON , ONLY YAHWEH GOD WILL SEND JESUS TO RESCUE THEM...YAHWEH DON'T LIKE UGLY, DESPERATE MONEY HUNGRY SEEKERS, SCHEMERS CHEATERS, LIARS, SERVERS OF SATAN THAT DON'T KNOW HE'S BEHIND THINGS THAT PEOPLE EXCEPT GOOD THAT'S REALLY BAD....
Same!!! I used to get bullied about my dark skin complexion and I call myself ugly sometimes!!! Like idk my self esteem and confidence is really low😫!!!!
@@itsqueenari4236 girl you’re so pretty omg. you dont need to be insecure just because you have dark skin. i have light skin and i wish i had your skin color sometimes. remember that god doesn’t make ugly
@@miapia9020 thanks 🥺❤️!! Just realized that my comment was from 6 months ago and my confidence is wayyy better!! Kinda like you glow different after you stop talking down about yourself and start loving yourself ❤️
She speaking the truth though! Yeah... the fat dark chubby ones like me are usually the best friends lol... but baby let me tell you something... you better go on and live your very very best life! Because twenty something years from now, non of that will matter!!! And by the time they catch it may be too late for them!.. but you are beautiful and smart!!!
Tega Baah I'm not chubby but I realized that all my friends are lighter skinned. And sometimes they say some thing about dark skin and I have to check them about it, cuz it's not cool. It's like I cant find any friends that look like me.
I'm honestly annoyed at Erica pretending to be surprised at her daughter's proclamation that men prefer women of a lighter hue...she clearly knows that to be true and her reaction is not genuine as you can see it all over her face. Do better Mary girl...your daughter is very intelligent and doesn't need you coddling and invalidating her feelings with fake reactions of truth that's being spoken.
Ascalapha it’s because it’s her child fucking idiot what is she supposed to tell her child she honestly thinks her baby is beautiful which she is but how do I explain to your daughter society won’t see what u see 🤨
Tish Sharay your tone sounds pointed...you okay sis? I am well aware that it's her child and she is trying to be protective but her daughter is very articulate and bright...she knew her mom was full of shit by her reaction to men like lighter women...'youre light skinned so you do that know how It feels'. I will give Erica a pass though because prior to the colorism comment her daughter admit she was ugly so that probably took her out of reality and into full mommy mode where we have to make it seem like nothing will affect my child no matter how real it is. I get it but I still think her daughter is smart and bright enough to handle the truth in that moment. Furthermore, your mother is a fucking idiot for not aborting you after conception. You have a blessed day dear. 😀
I find it to be a form of gaslighting because she's deliberately playing dumb. I'm sure it's her way of soothing her daughter, just glad the daughter is self aware and willing to be honest!
Ascalapha right! All she had to say was " I don't have the answers" or let her speak to her paternal aunt but to dismiss her thoughts by talking about other brown skinned celebrities was wrong.
I agree! She didn't listen she responded.. but God bless she was caught off guard and you don't want your children's feelings hurt .. heck she didn't better than me lol "where they at?! Who said what to my child" 😂😂😂
SEE unfortunately these things DO exist and Erica need to STOP acting like she doesn't know there is MORE favoritism towards the lighter skin than the darker skin. I don't want my future children dealing with this so I will make sure there is BALANCE as much as I can. Smh Smh GOD is in total control over our complexion at the end of the day because Im LIGHTER than both my parents & my sister is DARKER than both our parents but no ones ugly. Society is so twisted I tell ya.
Will Rodgers No she’s not winning, because she’s very insecure about her looks, and if she keeps that mindset she’ll become a victim and be bitter about it, like all the rest of these wack ass broads in the comment section.🙄
Do You like cheese? If that's your perspective on this situation then you are extremely simple minded. If you're not aware that colorism exist and you're living in denial hun.
Queen of The marshmallows!! “Colorism” is a tool dark skin women use to attack black men for their personal choices, it doesn’t have as much relevance anymore, because the really insecure unattractive dark women have highjacked the word, and motive is to be the “standard beauty” in the black community, it ain’t gonna happen.....🙄 LIVE WITH IT.
Do You like cheese? *"Colorism is an attack on black men for their personal choices"* Why do you black men love to play they victims all the time??? You're clearly not the one who's being attacked when it comes to colorism but black men such as yourself love to make the problem about yourself when it's clearly not about you. The fact that you assume that unattractive black women only complain about colorism is fucking stupid considering the fact that attractive dark skin women like Amara la negra and Lupita have called out colorism and complained about it in the music and acting industry. Your opinion on colorism is extremely simple-minded and it's so clear that you don't know shit about colorism.
Do You like cheese? If you expect dark skin women to turn the other cheek and "live with it" it's so clear that you are a colorist as well. Lmao fuck off
She’s a smart ass girl. Everything she was telling her mom was her accurate observation. Her mom should’ve just listened instead of trying to make her feel like her views don’t exist. Everything she stated made perfect sense and it’s her own genuine experience.
Regina Best I thought we were over this when a lot of women had a crush on Wesley Snipes and other dark skinned men. I start seeing more dark skinned women with nice looking men. Will we ever be over this?
I hate that her mother is dismissing her reality! I'm light skinned and my mother is dark I know colorism exists. The best thing this mom can do is help this girl get healthy and tap into her unique beauty. Being an overweight teen is SO difficult. My mom pulled me aside at 15 because she saw me drowning in overweight and poor body image. She asked me how I felt, and if I wanted to change it. When I told her I wanted to get in shape my FIFTY-THREE YEAR OLD mother started RUNNING with me to help me lose weight. Dismissing reality changes nothing. Giving our daughters the tools to win at life means everything.
Hi. Excellent comment. Since you have gone through this experience yourself maybe you should write a book and call it Tap Into Your Unique Beauty and target it at female teens and young adults. Know that writing a book take patience. Just write everyday some at a time and you'll get there! I'm a writer myself. :)
Lucky you. My mom threw away my favorite skirt in 5th grade bc I was too fat for it. Instead of replacing it she just threw it away and said just because stuff was made in my size doesn't mean I should wear it. To this day I'm super uncomfortable I'm a dress
This makes me SO sad for our society. The fact that a beautiful, intelligent, and classy young lady like this could even have these thoughts going through her mind is an indicator of what society pushes to our young girls. 😔
@@curlss.3b289 Whatever you find her appearance, we all have to agree that she's a smart young lady since she noticed the parallel between her parents and society.
I don't think that's what she was trying to do though. I think she was trying to give her hope, trying to point to other dark-dark couples to show her that there are definitely black men that appreciate brown skin. Erica cannot relate entirely to her daughter because she is lighter skinned. I think she just wanted to encourage her to not be depressed about it. She did her best in that moment.
@@lobi5104 I agree, I think she was trying to reassure her, and get her to see that she's beautiful regardless. I just think she didn't know how to go about it properly because like Krista pointed out, she can't relate.
The problem isn't only teaching our girls to love themselves only but Parents also must teach their boys that every girl and woman is beautiful regardless of their color and size.
Why is she acting so shocked? Colourism is rampant in the black community. This young girl is articulate and observant. A majority of the darkskin men in her family are married to light skin women, how did her mother expect her to perceive it. If I was her, I would come to the same conclusion. The sad truth is that light is still right in the black community so these men need to realise that they’ve been conditioned to find light skin women more attractive and it impacts their children who may not turn out as light as their partners. And no I am not blaming lightskin sisters either cause a) they didn’t choose who their parents are and b) it’s not their fault that they’re lightskin but I sometimes think they they don’t understand colourism and the impact it has on the community.
I find that most light skinned women don't get it, just like white people don't get racism. My mother wad light skinned too and she didn't understand it when i mentioned it to her. As a mother she saw me as beautiful. My light skinned friends said they couldn't understand why they got the most attention from black men than i did because they thought i was beautiful as well. It was strange to me that men of other races were more drawn to me than my own race of men. Just look at hollywood. Look at the color of women the black men are dating, if they marry a black woman she is mixed or very light.
I look at it like this, a little black boy grows up watching tv and the only images of beauty he constantly sees is the European ideal, which is intentional. Why don't they have over weight unattractive white women on television? They have them but they're not going to show them. They want to perpetuate the aunt jemima image of us and show them as being beautiful and having the best lives. It's a lie created by the media to continue to have images of us that are less desirable. It's better than what it was but the damage had been done and black men seemed to be more affected by it.
I don't know if her mom is pretending to be unaware of what her daughter is saying because she's trying to give her hope to the ways of this world or what....but mom has lived life. I think deep down she knows exactly what her daughter is talking about...
I truly understand her cry It's so hard being dark skinned woman You get teased from every race even your own But keep your head up young lady Because you are beautiful❤
Sonia Felita Erica get real and her daughter can use that time as a youth to draw close to God Jah and better herself so she ain't alone and worried about not providing for herself.... Don't worry about the boys go do the work of God
One day I was doing my 3 year olds hair in front of the mirror n she said she was ugly. Girl that just tore through my soul. I was like who told you that you were ugly. In my mind I was like some kid said that at the daycare. We had a long talk about how beautiful she was. Plus I told her that if anybody said that again that she should tell them that she is beautiful, they are mean, and that her mama is gonna get them. Boy I was ready to go up to that daycare!!!! #MamaBearMode
The baby girl is right. Mom could never know how she feels. It's a plague among the culture. She has to be confident in her skin. My dad validated us he is light skin and my mom is dark. It's 3 girls and we are 3 shades of brown. My oldest is the darkest and my youngest is light. I'm in the middle and I saw how it affected my older sister she was always heavy set and the darkest 1.
I‘ll say ONE THING! Two actually, 1. This little girl is beautiful and 2. This little girl is BEAUTIFULLY ARTICULATE!!! Most ADULTS can NOT sit down and express themselves the way this young lady did!
I TRULY relate!! Being dark skinned my mom is light and my Dad is super duper black. I HATED for my mom to come to my school because the kids would make fun of me and ask "Thats YOUR mom???? What happened to u???" It was so hurtful. Ericka needs to be TOTALLY transparent with her. She is heavy and she is dark. 2 things i was at that age and still am. I struggled thru school because boys that age dont typically want heavy and dark. They want what is glorified on tv. And thats light, thin waist big butt and breast. It may hurt her to be honest with her daughter but in the long run it will be better. Telling her she has her face is a lie. They look different save a few features.
People are such ignorant acting assholes! I am a light brown skin woman that people consider attractive, however it means nothing because people only want gratification. Whenever people want to screw someone they act super nice. If people see you as attractive they put unrealistic expectations and demands on you. Expecting you to be perfect. When you're not always happy not perfect people make up assumptions and lies about you. People are just fake phony stupid and toxic no matter what they think you look like. To hell with lowlives that make you feel this way!
bigsongdiva You have spoken a word!! Very candid and honest. I was never heavy, but as a chocolate girl, I grew up aware that society as a whole favors lighter skin and the thin figure. Sometimes it seems to balance out when as an adult, you grow into your own self and develop that confidence. But as a child or younger person, they feel the sting and rejection, and they need help in how to deal with that.
That baby look like her daddy she may have some Erica's traits but like I said my daughter looks like me but by her her being light skin and blonde hair people don't notice that she looks like me they notice a white looking girl with a black woman. I have been called her nanny. And other things and I slept with the mailman all kind of terrible things and I had to fight back. And so has she. Erica my baby thought she was white and she wanted to know where she came from. We had to have a intervention when she was about six. What color r you ? And she would always say white. Back then she would look at Different Strokes and she saw Willis and Arnold and Kimberley and thought that was our family as well. She would not play with black dolls because she wanted a doll that looked like her so that meant she had white dolls back then they didn't have any other dolls but black or white. Talk to your baby and be honest and straightforward about her heritage and watch the family because family can say hurtful things and not know they r hurting your child because you guys do have a lot colors among you. Just some honest thoughts.
bigsongdiva same my mother was very fair skinned and they thought I was adopted cause everyone in my family had her tone except myself of course I got my father’s complexion but I love it 😻 and I had to to learn too unfortunately🖤
Erica need to cut it and have a candid convo. She should also exercise/walk be more active with her and maybe obtain a personal trainer since many of the Atkins ladies struggle with weight issues. Her daughter is very aware and beautiful, nothing wrong with telling the truth. Get her the trainer, like Kandi did with Riley.
I agree with the family weight issue....because Erica can also stand to lose a few pounds to be her most healthiest self. Set the example in the household and make it an expectation to eat healthier, become more active, and stay woke to health. Just like we make it an expectation to go to Church, Black families need to set the expectation on fitness.
She’s gotta learn how to be comfortable in her own skin. I feel like most darker skinned girls go thru this. I know I did. I use the ask my friends that question all the time. As human we will always think the grass is greener in the other side. To be light skinned taller shorter skinny fuller hips and thighs. The key is to stop looking on the other side and love yourself.
I feel her on that Darks-skin girl part. I spent so much of My childhood hating myself because I was always being teased about my complexion. But now that I’ve gotten older I realized that dark skin is the prettiest skin. ❤️ I wish her the best on embracing her beauty because she is a gorgeous girl.
No but she’s actually really pretty, I think her insecurities have a lot to do with her skin color, people look at her different and she can feel it, she’s not stupid.
Janeisha Hunter well that’s a personal problem for you seeing as how I says she looks just like her mom with her dad’s skin tone. How does that concern you? My daughter looks like me with her dad’s skin tone. The but was used as a proper way to format a sentence
Honey Johnson You should've said and she's beautiful. When you say but after a statement like that it has a negative connotation. It's like saying you're fat but you're still beautiful. Implying that fat is not beautiful.
Jayla Blackwell look I said what I said and meant it. YOU are negative not my damn statement, last I check I’m grown so don’t try and check me about shit I say. Your negative ass took away what you wanted to from what I said and again that’s a personal damn problem seeing as how I literally said she’s beautiful. The whole damn point of the video is her wondering was she pretty and being that she’s not her mom color. This my last time responding because I’m not arguing with ignorance have a good day luv and I wish nothing but happiness for you
Janeisha Hunter Exactly! it's like this verse in the bible. ''I am black but beautiful''. I always had an issue with it. in the hebrew version this is not what is written. The real translation according to the jewish scholars is ''AND'' or without any ccordination or opposition. Or'' I am black like the tents of Qedar'' (arab tribe whose tents were jet black) The ''but'' came after the 16th translation of the bible. The subtle link between blackness and ugliness with the word '' but'' is a heritage from the Western Christianity but at the time of Salomon it was not the case. It was considered as being something mysteriously different, that attracts because not like the others, the otherness. a lot of deities were paint in dark/black skin because it refered at the otherness, almost the divine. So please erase the BUT of your words when refering to dark skin black women. The sentence she's pretty for a dark skin girl implies also a but: she is dark skin BUT she is pretty. Sorry for my english! Ntifafa from France.
I feel like I had this conversation with my mom... I'm balling!! This world is so cruel. It's so hurtful. I pray so much love, positivity, confidence, and joy upon her ❤
This is such a powerful moment and her awareness should not be dismissed or ignored. Truth is colorism is a reality and as a 57 year old woman it took me a while to recognized how I'm treated because of my size, skin tone and gender....wow as scripture says a child will lead us.
Rodney Hawkins I agree, but I think she was just in shock and didn’t know how to respond. In the video you can see she kept cutting her daughter off because she just didn’t want to hear her daughter experience that. The best thing to do is just listen to her, acknowledge her feelings and build on her strengths.
@@sg9395 yes it would be wrong. Because if some who is skinny refers to themselves as slim you have to respect that. Its rude to refer to them as skinny as it is to call someone fat. She chose the word chubby on purpose.
Chubby does sound better than fat I did not like that either but Erica human and that showed she can comprehend what daughter is saying. No need to pretend that people don't think dark is pretty...
You are soo beautiful. You look like me cute and brown. Not only are you beautiful but your spirit is beautiful. Not to mention talented. Girl you out here written songs with your mom. We love you little momma just the way you are. ❤💛💚💜💙
As a dark skinned woman, I understand Krista!! The same thing happened to me my ENTIRE life... Well up into my 20's. Late 20's i guess i stopped caring and realized, Look im stuck this way!! Either ya like it or ya dont! Dark and Chubby is like painting a sign on the forehead that reads "outcast." I feel Kris on this one. No matter what anyone says, it only get better when she realizes she's beautifully dark skinned and who cares about anyone who thinks differently.
I felt the same way but as I got older I didn’t give a flip what ppl thought or think justify light skin doesn’t mean u pretty it’s a lot of light skin folks that’s ugly just like dark skin so don’t make nobody make you feel like u are ugly bc we are dark skin I will forever love me and can’t no man take that away from me💋💋💋💋💋
Idk her background or relationship with her dad but I know there are a lot of girls and women who felt this way and I think it would make a little difference if they had a male figure (preferably their father) to tell them that they're beautiful and value and love themselves. It makes a difference when it comes from a man. It may not change every thing but it can help.
Elizabeth Fearon Her dad is in here life and they seem to have a decent relationship. Her parents are married and have been for a while . But what you said is totally true.
Yep and I’m not saying this to be negative but her own dad married a “light skin” woman. Pretty much making her statement more valid that men usually want the lighter girls
I can speak from experience the ones that’s poppin in Junior or high school honey that’s their peak. As soon as this young lady finds her confidence she’ll be unstoppable for years to come
@@Proverbspsalms It’s not the ‘60s, but colorism is still alive and kicking, you 🤡 Just because something doesn’t matter to you, doesn’t mean it doesn’t to others.
I’m 28 and I’ve learned to embrace being dark skin. Growing up I was the dark skin skinny girl. Krista’s right. In my group of friends, I was always the wheel. The guys wanted my light skin friends. I felt so left out. I didn’t realize how beautiful I was or that people wanted to be my complexion until middle school. My light skin friend said that she hated being so light and how she couldn’t wait to tan in the summer time and how she wish she had my complexion. I was like 😱 I couldn’t believe it. Here I am wishing to look like her and she wanted to look like me. That’s where I learned to accept me for how I am but it still took time. Your black is beautiful honey! 😊
She's beautiful & Very smart! My niece is a chocolate drop honey & the most Beautiful girl (now adult) I'd ever seen. She just graduated from college WITH TOP HONORS from an HBCU!!! She is my real life cabbage patch doll & Will always be aunties baby! It doesn't matter what others think they see. It only matters that YOU KNOW YOUR worth. When you step with Extreme confidence, you attract those who recognize your value in this world!
I’m glad she’s strong enough to talk to mom! People do make dark skins feel like something is wrong. The more we talk about it and DO DIFFERENT the better it will be! #teamcoco #teamchocolate #myblackisSexy
She is pretty.. And when she gets older and comes into her own she going to be a total knock out. She in that teenage awkward phase we all go through. But it shall pass!
Wow, this brought tears in my eyes, i was the opposite of her, was the giraffe growing up, tall, dark, big lips and skinny and they called me mosquito, giraffe etc, while my sisters were curvy lighter skinned like mama. I ate so much to get fat or at least something, i even wore 2 pairs of trousers, tops to look at least chubby bunny, my mom was horrified when she found out, i even wore bras and pairs of socks to look like i had boobs, mama had a face 2 face talk with me.She said, i was beautiful and would have loved to be skinny just like you, but my side of our family ,we are whales, we had a good laugh, learnt to love myself, have embraced who i am, i took over my Dad's side, they are tall, dark and skinny and i thank GOD everyday,I AM ME...In my late 30s and even after having kids, i still can wear my college clothes and they can't..lol
Kristie Kabs wow!!! I can totally relate but people don’t understand what tall girls go through and tall skinny girls too because models are tall and skinny. But growing up it was hard being the tallest in your class, guys tease you and don’t talk to you either. I got call names too and tease because I was tall and had a big feet. My self esteem was so low, I hated looking at myself. But God bring me out of that and every now again even in my 30s grown ups will tease me about my height because I am woman.
“Today’s society, guys go for light skinned girls “ always 😌😌 I feel so bad for her boo believe n yourself 🤥❤️💯 In stay optimistic bcuz I know how it is 😫😌🥰💯
I totally understand, it is tough raising a girl of darker skin complexion when you have much lighter skin. I see nothing but beauty, but society and years of colorism takes such a toll on their self esteem.
in that moment I wanted Erica to get real with her daughter, sometimes mother have to protect their children but preparing them for the truth not hiding them from reality
I just wanted everyone to know that love who you are see yourself the way Jesus see you don't let anyone tell you you're ugly or you're fat you have to dismiss that and know that you are loved Jesus love us all when we come to that understanding then things will get better cuz we will be better.
Tbh her mom is very pretty and she looks like her dad and she's still cute and if she wants to lose weight that's ok too she is considered chubby so she might feel better to lose weight , even kids should lose weight too , if uncomfortable
Chariona Grace yeah l think she will change after her glow up. Most of us have been there. She looks like her mom and as she gets older will get her moms shape. Working out is good to though. I see Kandis daughter Riley worked out and she looks amazing. Not that she was big before but you can really see a boost in her confidence!
Wow! This speaks volumes to me as a woman who is going through this... not only is she #Heavier but also #Dark-skinned... I'm a plus size woman of her color and it's like we have a double disadvantage... even where plus sized light skinned or mixed women get picked before us... They talk about colorism but there is also #Size-ism in our society! Let's talk about that!!!
This is so sad but yet sooo true...I have two gorgeous darkskin friends with coke bottle shapes im slim thick but they got them small waist with the big home grown booties but it never fails whenever we hang out im always the 1st one approached no lie and true enough the attention is nice but it becomes irritating because I can tell it makes my friends feel some type of way and I KNOW its because im the light skinned one because they are so pretty in the face and they both have bangin shapes, i have a nice body 2 but im slim wit curves ... My friends never say it but their body language and mood changes tell it all trust me i been knowing them 10 plus years and i love them ,I never want them to feel bad or view me as competition ...black men especially need to do better in this area
I'm so glad EC was trying to encourage Krista. Colorism is real in the Black community and her feelings as a beautiful brown young woman are valid. I'm wondering if Erica should get a few brown skin mentors for Krista... someone who knows exactly how she feels.
This is so real! People don’t get the light skin and dark skin complex is real. I’m light skin sometimes I heard cruel things from dark skin women. Before I had a great understanding what they actually go through as women and men in society, I couldn’t make sense why it even mattered! I’m light skin, I didn’t ask to be this way. It’s so sad many of us were conditioned to feel this way, because our parents and grandparents dealt with during slavery and racism. Now this thought process continues 🤦🏽♀️
Miss Thang: I know there’s light skin women out here that feels that way. I’m not one of them. My adopted mother, sisters and brother are dark skin. Although at times they saw color. I didn’t. I was just happy to have a home and someone to call family. I apologize for anything you’ve experienced from light skin girls. I honestly believe we’re all beautiful and I wish things were different, but so much damage has been done, it will take a lifetime to repair and heal the hurt we’ve all experienced.
Miss Thang society have created monsters into thinking the only black that’s beautiful is “light skin” that’s far from the truth! All black is beautiful dark, brown and light skin. Yes society has hype a lot light (fair) skin women to think dark is ugly. This goes back to slavery dear...if it’s not about color, it’s about hair texture or your body. It’s always something. It’s sad!
truth is it should never be about color no matter if you are dark-skinned, or light-skinned, white, hispanic Puerto Rican it shouldn't matter what race you are bottom line it should always be about love and respect for another human being.
Erica your daughter is beautiful ,smart and talented young lady 👏👏👏👏so smile and hold your head ☝ high an never let anyone tell you differently luv you guy's ✌& blessings🙏
Even though this child was smiling I felt her pain. She is a gorgeous young lady and It's sad that most kids look up to celebrities and most bleach there skin and have plastic surgery. Even the 2 celebrities she has named have lighted there skin some and had things done. It's sad that most kids are being bullied in school about skin color and especially there wight + what they wear or should I say can't afford to wear. My daughter says people telling her all the time that she looks older and has a grown woman body. But she tells me she love herself and I tell her everyday how beautiful she is and how much I love her. Cause I do + I will not sitback and let evil people try to break her. Please parents don't let your kids go out in this cruel world without saying your beautiful & I love you and it's okay to give them a big hug+ 😘. No matter if there like OMG Mom 😂😂 My daughter said friends would tease her because I gave her a hug and a kiss and I had to tell her sweetie maybe they're just a little jealous cuz they don't get this every morning please tell him I don't have a problem giving them a hug and a kiss and telling them that I love them also 😘😘 Please tell your kids you love them everyday you would be surprised how helpful it will be to your child and it puts a smile on there faces and in there litte ❤ Also you never knows if one-day they will walkout the door and it's your last time seeing them. My only son was murdered by a so-called friend and it's been hard very hard on me but one thing that helps me was his smile and our hugs and use always saying I love you to each other 💔❤💓I will always remember that beautiful smile and how kind-hearted he was to others. So please always be there for your kids, give them Hugs and kisses No matter what or No matter there age cause you never know when it maybe your last time seeing them or even how others might make them feel. When your there 💯% for your children it will warm your Hart inside just to help them feel good💞
What a beautiful baby and a beautiful conversation! I’m so glad she was comfortable enough to share her feelings with you! I know God will give you the words for her… and she will come to see the absolute BEAUTY that she is. God bless you all!!💕🙏🏾
Erica knows theres colorism....she just didnt know how to respond because she probably didnt know kris was so aware it shocked her.
Pink Diamonds No u just think negative and u are trying to cause racism it has nothing to do with that
She literally said first thing she thinks she's chubby and "absolutely knows it is."

“You’re light skin so you don’t understand.”
FACTS.
I think Erica is down playing a lot of what her daughter is saying, because what she is saying is true. Especially in this society

facts!
So true...👍🏿
ive noticed this since the 1st grade how i was treated different because of my skin
and not only is she darkskin but she’s plus size so her mother isn’t understanding bc she doesn’t know how it feels bc she has had lightskin and skinny privilege most of her life
Erica may be light skin bit she's not skinny.

Doesn't mean much you be the trophy type and still get left out or shelved

I was definitely that girl but the worst part was it was my own family cousins etc who was treating me that way

“You’re not the fat friend”

Yea my jaw dropped when she said "fat friend". Way to make your daughter, who is clearly already self conscious referring to herself as the "chubby friend", feel good about herself smdh
LMAOOO, I forgot I made this comment. I said what I said, I meant what I said, and I’ll say it again. :)
This girl is hyper aware. I believe Erica didn’t know how to approach her with the truth. It’s deep when your child is telling you a very real perspective.
I Mean, Could You Not Though exactly
The Lord have her eyes wide open🧐
Maybe Erica doesn’t want to accept it that what benefited her in a way is a strike against her daughter . Erica might not be the one to deliver this message maybe her grandmother or the dark skin aunt she was talking about
She knew exactly what her daughter was dealing with but she felt like her daughter probably wasn't strong enough as yet for that hard talk...
You can’t KNOW what you’ve never had to deal with. That’s why l’m glad my momma told me the truth EARLY in life. I married a brown skin man from a lightskin biracial family like mine. My girls are light as me. It matters when you have daughters!!!
Dang! When she said that "you're not dark-skinned, so you don't really know how it feels" I was like, daaaannggg she gotcha there Mama...
That was really sad 😢
Bruh your bugging there's plenty of niggas all colors like lightskin niggas for example we always try and go for a black female but they look at us like we stupid and try and act hostile talk about a nigga be disrespectful and act like all they want is blacker colored guys and it happens all the time it happened to me too many and I'm lightskin handsome and trying to show these chocolate girls I really want them I'll wife a chocolate girl but it's like they don't want no body so then niggas stop going after there ungrateful ass cuz clearly they don't know good when they see it
Just like with darker niggas they done with black females and it's for a good reason
That’s why you can’t hate on dark skinned women with White or Hispanic men like............. If black men ain’t checking for them wtf are they waiting for?

Colorism is a real topic for chocolate girls. I had same problems as a kid.
Indeed
It is
Michelle yes indeed
Believe it or not it's a real topic for light skin girls as well, least for me it was
Well, my mom is light skinned & she had problems with our fam.
That's so sad... She reminds me of how I use to feel when I was her age
ThaNatural Goddess I felt the same way. Most of my close friends were light skinned and got all the attention. I was the brown friend who got overlooked.
I was the same way for a very long time. I'm now in a very happy relationship. It gets better
ThaNatural Goddess this made me cry , I experienced colorism growing up too.
ThaNatural Goddess me too. You’d have thought that by now things would change but I guess dark skinned girls are still going through it..
My mama is light and told us about colorism. It doesn't help to pretend like you aren't aware of it.
Same for me and idk why Erica chose to play dumb on such an obvious problem facing Black girls/women.
Right
My momma acts like it doesn’t exist. She’s light skinned with the green eyes to match.

Ilana Ali hey idiot who said her father likes light skin women in that manner. He’s never said anything like that. So you’re assuming.
should her father leave her mother and get a dark skinned woman to prove to her that he loves his daughter?
New Account really. People are so stupid. I don’t know how people equate being married to a light skinned woman means you loathe dark skinned women
Her daughter's feelings are 100% real. I wish I had the comfort in talking to my mom about my self esteem issues when I was younger.

Esther Krista will always feel like Erica doesnt understand because she is light skin.

Ascalapha it’s because it’s her child fucking idiot what is she supposed to tell her child she honestly thinks her baby is beautiful which she is but how do I explain to your daughter society won’t see what u see 🤨
Ascalapha. I saw her reaction also smh!

*"Colorism is an attack on black men for their personal choices"*
Why do you black men love to play they victims all the time???
I hate society smh
Destiney Harper me too :-(
If Black people had our own Media, this would not be a problem. We MUST Identify as a culture and people to stick together.
Destiney Harper I hate what society does to our girls
Jay H if black men would start loving their own darker skin women, these issues would not exist.
Destiney Harper same here!!
Sigh this is still a problem and it really shouldn't be.
In my opinion I don't find her appearance beautiful, but her heart is,
jumanji145 I find her appearance average
@@user-du2tz3pi8m nah😬😬😬below
She’s a kid !!!!!!! She’s still growing
@@curlss.3b289 Whatever you find her appearance, we all have to agree that she's a smart young lady since she noticed the parallel between her parents and society.
Erika kept invalidating her daughter. Smh she insisted that her daughter experience was wrong and perception of the situation was flawed some how
I don't think that's what she was trying to do though.
Exactly.. she said “guys like light skin girls” she said WHAT? Like i don’t get it, why can’t u just admit she’s right?
I don’t think she’s a very good mother
@@dejahdavis1228 umm...that's an unfair conclusion.
Chim Cham could’ve said it better myself 🙏🏿
@1:12 she has the most prettiest eyes ever gorgeous smile and the cutest giggle 😍
A beautiful complexion too
I truly understand her cry
It's so hard being dark skinned woman
You get teased from every race even your own
But keep your head up young lady
Because you are beautiful❤
Dad need to chime in asap. Let her know what a beautiful princess she is. There's so much pressure in girls these days regarding looks. It's sad.
Sonia Felita Erica get real and her daughter can use that time as a youth to draw close to God Jah and better herself so she ain't alone and worried about not providing for herself.... Don't worry about the boys go do the work of God
If only she knew she was actually really pretty 😢❤️
One day I was doing my 3 year olds hair in front of the mirror n she said she was ugly. Girl that just tore through my soul. I was like who told you that you were ugly. In my mind I was like some kid said that at the daycare. We had a long talk about how beautiful she was. Plus I told her that if anybody said that again that she should tell them that she is beautiful, they are mean, and that her mama is gonna get them. Boy I was ready to go up to that daycare!!!! #MamaBearMode
Had plenty of those days.
Mama honey girl, u just being a mama bear looking after her cubs. But u had to calm down - lol. It's human nature to be protected.
wow shes only 3 that broke my heart tell her everyday shes beautiful and buying her diffrent types of dolls just reasure her shes beautiful
I feel you COMPLETELY!
What happened to u???"
It was so hurtful.
@istillbetalkin EXACTLY💯💯
bigsongdiva same my mother was very fair skinned and they thought I was adopted cause everyone in my family had her tone except myself of course I got my father’s complexion but I love it 😻 and I had to to learn too unfortunately🖤
Erica need to cut it and have a candid convo. She should also exercise/walk be more active with her and maybe obtain a personal trainer since many of the Atkins ladies struggle with weight issues. Her daughter is very aware and beautiful, nothing wrong with telling the truth. Get her the trainer, like Kandi did with Riley.
foxygirl646 yes riley looks great!!!
That's the same thing i said! She really could stand 2 slim down a bit, bc boys really aren't typically going after the chubby girls, at her age.
I agree with the family weight issue....because Erica can also stand to lose a few pounds to be her most healthiest self. Set the example in the household and make it an expectation to eat healthier, become more active, and stay woke to health. Just like we make it an expectation to go to Church, Black families need to set the expectation on fitness.
foxygirl646 Exactly!
Who tf are y'all to say some idiotic bullshit!!! That young beautiful woman does not need to loose weight
It really hit when she named more light skin dark skin couples in the family.
aww...this brought tears to my eyes...you can be the most beautiful person in the world and still feel ugly...You're beautiful Krista!!!!
It's crazy how even the babies know what's going on.
I always wanted a beautiful dark complexion
No it’s not all complexions are beautiful and you know deep down inside that you wish you were lighter don’t lie
She is absolutely beautiful and she doesn't have anything to worry about. She has plenty time for boys. Don't rush it.
No but she’s actually really pretty, I think her insecurities have a lot to do with her skin color, people look at her different and she can feel it, she’s not stupid.
She’s pretty, she looks like her mom but just her dad’s skin tone. That’s how my daughter is but she’s beautiful
Honey Johnson that "BUT" concerns me
Janeisha Hunter well that’s a personal problem for you seeing as how I says she looks just like her mom with her dad’s skin tone.
Krista is right. Society's standard of beauty is fair skinned and slim. You have young black men that say they hate black women.. It is really sad!
French Quebec Facts!
in today's black community whats in is curvy and light skin. as a slim girl I don't attention from black guys
LB초콜릿우유 That is very true!
Lucinda Rimger no it's curvy and light skinned
Luixcc That is true. Curves are definitely in these days.
I feel like I had this conversation with my mom... I'm balling!! This world is so cruel. It's so hurtful. I pray so much love, positivity, confidence, and joy upon her ❤
That Baby is as Bright as the Sun... She brings up a very good point, got me thinking a bit.
This is such a powerful moment and her awareness should not be dismissed or ignored. Truth is colorism is a reality and as a 57 year old woman it took me a while to recognized how I'm treated because of my size, skin tone and gender....wow as scripture says a child will lead us.
Erica sounds as if she's shocked of what her daughter is saying as though her concerns can't be possible. She ran away from the issue!
Rodney Hawkins I agree, but I think she was just in shock and didn’t know how to respond. In the video you can see she kept cutting her daughter off because she just didn’t want to hear her daughter experience that. The best thing to do is just listen to her, acknowledge her feelings and build on her strengths.
@@1brakan Gotcha!!!
Heffa she said she’s the chubby friend, she ain’t say the fat friend WTF!!! Erica get it together huge difference in those words 🤦🏾♂️
Wait..so what’s the “huge” difference between chubby and fat? So if she said slim and the mom said skinny that would be wrong also?
@@sg9395 yes it would be wrong. Because if some who is skinny refers to themselves as slim you have to respect that. Its rude to refer to them as skinny as it is to call someone fat. She chose the word chubby on purpose.
Chubby does sound better than fat I did not like that either but Erica human and that showed she can comprehend what daughter is saying. No need to pretend that people don't think dark is pretty...
I was literally thinking the same!
@@Sweetness8338 we all know that chubby means fat

When she asked if she was ugly. It broke my heart into pieces🥺. Cause shes beautiful no matter the skin tone, nor size. Shes literally gorgeous 😭🌼💕.
YEP!
Elizabeth Fearon I agree
Elizabeth Fearon Her dad is in here life and they seem to have a decent relationship. Her parents are married and have been for a while . But what you said is totally true.

This separation is from the evil ones. Im a brown skin woman and it is true men do treat us differently.
Aw when she said “Mom your light skin so you wouldn’t understand” made me so sad😔 but Erica response was amazing!
Im not a mother yet, but this has to be one of the hardest conversations a mother had to have with her daughter. The End!!!!
But you’re not light skin.😑
Nicole Clark You’re Brown skin, I’m actually light skin, so I definitely see the difference. But you’re light brown if that makes you feel better.....
Erica your daughter is beautiful ,smart and talented young lady 👏👏👏👏so smile and hold your head ☝ high an never let anyone tell you differently luv you guy's ✌& blessings🙏
Her father hasn't told her enough how BEAUTIFUL she is!
When your there 💯% for your children it will warm your Hart inside just to help them feel good💞
This made me a little teary eyed 😪 I definitely understand this baby and what she means
What a beautiful baby and a beautiful conversation! I’m so glad she was comfortable enough to share her feelings with you! I know God will give you the words for her… and she will come to see the absolute BEAUTY that she is. God bless you all!!💕🙏🏾
