    FACTS.

    • @shadowflewellen9464
      @shadowflewellen9464 4 года назад +27

      No not really. It doesn't matter if someone is light skin, doesn't mean they don't get judged by both white and black people. There are beautiful dark chocolate girls as well as light skin girls, just because the media holds light skins up as the image of beauty does not mean people only gravitate to that. Both sides of the color spectrum deal with issues.

    • @twentyseven-
      @twentyseven- 4 года назад +78

      Shadow Flewellen both sides of the spectrum deal with issues but the issues are different. So as a light skin person she would not see the issues that she faces as a darkskin person and if the roles were reversed it would be vice versa. But if you are saying the issues that light skin people face is in any comparison to what a darkskin person goes through you are sadly mistaken

    • @shadowflewellen9464
      @shadowflewellen9464 4 года назад +10

      @@twentyseven- I am saying that. I myself find dark skin women extremely attractive, there are many beautiful dark skin woman in this world, same with the other side. Both sides face issues the main ones having to do with being BLACK. I think if a person from either side were to say there issues have weight both sides would be validated.

    • @twentyseven-
      @twentyseven- 4 года назад +57

      Shadow Flewellen you may find darkskin women attractive but that’s your personal opinion. However society as a whole does not have respect for people with darkskin. Not only black people. Asian people and Hispanic people have the same issues. For years light skin has been seen as superior. many light skin people wouldn’t even consider themselves “black” they would refer to themselves as “light skin” or “mixed”. Many people hide their black side and only say what they are mixed with. Or have babies with white or lighter skin people so their kids don’t have dark skin and coarse hair. There are also many people who have no trouble saying the would never date a darkskin person so just because a light skin persons issues would be “validated” still DOES NOT mean it compares to what a darkskin person goes through on a daily basis. I SAID WHAT I SAID.

I'm not hating on these women because that are beautiful black women or women of color; but men are holding them up as the ONLY standard of beauty. There are just a few darker skinned women that are married into this group of professional "that we see in the public eye". Also, if you notice...when the daughter asked if she was ugly, Erica's lips said no but she shook her head yes. Then in her confessional, when she was saying she only sees beauty in her daughter's eyes...her head shook no. We do our children no favors with false sincerity. In a world that is already going to try and tare them down with hate, the least we can provide is honesty, help overcoming the difficulties that they face, and unconditional love. I was chubby as a kid and my father pointed it out. My mother would tell him to leave me alone. Now that I am older, I appreciate his honesty. Someone who cares tells you the truth...no matter how much it hurts. But let me be clear, there is also a classy and respectful way to go about delivering that honesty. If Erica's daughter has an issue with her weight, there is nothing wrong with her mother helping her to improve that in a healthy way. I don't believe that she is doing her daughter any favors in the long run by invalidating her concerns. That is just how I feel as someone who can personally relate to the "chubby" portion of the discussion, and as someone who empathizes with and knows the impact of the discussion as a whole.

My mom pulled me aside at 15 because she saw me drowning in overweight and poor body image. She asked me how I felt, and if I wanted to change it. When I told her I wanted to get in shape my FIFTY-THREE YEAR OLD mother started RUNNING with me to help me lose weight. Dismissing reality changes nothing. Why is she acting so shocked? Colourism is rampant in the black community. This young girl is articulate and observant. A majority of the darkskin men in her family are married to light skin women, how did her mother expect her to perceive it. If I was her, I would come to the same conclusion. The sad truth is that light is still right in the black community so these men need to realise that they’ve been conditioned to find light skin women more attractive and it impacts their children who may not turn out as light as their partners. And no I am not blaming lightskin sisters either cause a) they didn’t choose who their parents are and b) it’s not their fault that they’re lightskin but I sometimes think they they don’t understand colourism and the impact it has on the community.

      I look at it like this, a little black boy grows up watching tv and the only images of beauty he constantly sees is the European ideal, which is intentional. Why don't they have over weight unattractive white women on television? They have them but they're not going to show them. They want to perpetuate the aunt jemima image of us and show them as being beautiful and having the best lives. It's a lie created by the media to continue to have images of us that are less desirable. It's better than what it was but the damage had been done and black men seemed to be more affected by it.

    It was so hurtful. Ericka needs to be TOTALLY transparent with her. She is heavy and she is dark. 2 things i was at that age and still am. I struggled thru school because boys that age dont typically want heavy and dark. They want what is glorified on tv. And thats light, thin waist big butt and breast.

Sometimes it seems to balance out when as an adult, you grow into your own self and develop that confidence. But as a child or younger person, they feel the sting and rejection, and they need help in how to deal with that.

      That baby look like her daddy she may have some Erica's traits but like I said my daughter looks like me but by her her being light skin and blonde hair people don't notice that she looks like me they notice a white looking girl with a black woman. I have been called her nanny. And other things and I slept with the mailman all kind of terrible things and I had to fight back. And so has she. Erica my baby thought she was white and she wanted to know where she came from. We had to have a intervention when she was about six. What color r you ? And she would always say white. Back then she would look at Different Strokes and she saw Willis and Arnold and Kimberley and thought that was our family as well. She would not play with black dolls because she wanted a doll that looked like her so that meant she had white dolls back then they didn't have any other dolls but black or white. Talk to your baby and be honest and straightforward about her heritage and watch the family because family can say hurtful things and not know they r hurting your child because you guys do have a lot colors among you. Just some honest thoughts.

      I agree with the family weight issue....because Erica can also stand to lose a few pounds to be her most healthiest self. Set the example in the household and make it an expectation to eat healthier, become more active, and stay woke to health. Just like we make it an expectation to go to Church, Black families need to set the expectation on fitness.

    She’s gotta learn how to be comfortable in her own skin. I feel like most darker skinned girls go thru this. I know I did. I use the ask my friends that question all the time. As human we will always think the grass is greener in the other side. To be light skinned taller shorter skinny fuller hips and thighs. The key is to stop looking on the other side and love yourself.

      Janeisha Hunter Exactly! it's like this verse in the bible. ''I am black but beautiful''. I always had an issue with it. in the hebrew version this is not what is written. The real translation according to the jewish scholars is ''AND'' or without any ccordination or opposition. Or'' I am black like the tents of Qedar'' (arab tribe whose tents were jet black) The ''but'' came after the 16th translation of the bible. The subtle link between blackness and ugliness with the word '' but'' is a heritage from the Western Christianity but at the time of Salomon it was not the case. It was considered as being something mysteriously different, that attracts because not like the others, the otherness. a lot of deities were paint in dark/black skin because it refered at the otherness, almost the divine. So please erase the BUT of your words when refering to dark skin black women. The sentence she's pretty for a dark skin girl implies also a but: she is dark skin BUT she is pretty. Sorry for my english! Ntifafa from France.

My only son was murdered by a so-called friend and it's been hard very hard on me but one thing that helps me was his smile and our hugs and use always saying I love you to each other 💔❤💓I will always remember that beautiful smile and how kind-hearted he was to others. So please always be there for your kids, give them Hugs and kisses No matter what or No matter there age cause you never know when it maybe your last time seeing them or even how others might make them feel. When your there 💯% for your children it will warm your Hart inside just to help them feel good💞

    What a beautiful baby and a beautiful conversation! I’m so glad she was comfortable enough to share her feelings with you! I know God will give you the words for her… and she will come to see the absolute BEAUTY that she is. God bless you all!!💕🙏🏾

    My kids aren't of age to ask these things, but i know this was difficult for E as a mom.
