But I think I have some landowners thinking about getting Monsanto and row croppers off their ground in exchange for cows ,pigs and chickens on good green grass. 🙂

I'll never be a farmer but I am really interested in regenerative holistic farming and seek to support those farmers for my food. I have really enjoyed learning about managed grazing and seeing and learning from you what Allan Savory preaches. Funny seeing the contrast with other "traditional" cattle youtube channels and the lack of grass, use of bail rings, mud sacrifice fields, feeding grain, flighty cattle etc etc. I think they just like driving big tractors and spending money. Love what you are doing and really look forward to more follow up on the Arizona goat farm you were consulting with in a brittle zone. This is a true example of sequestering carbon with biology and does not get enough air time these days. I do love the fact that you could barely see the calves laying down in this video because the grass was so tall! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the explanation, Greg! I definitely want the residual to protect the soil from the hot summer sun--trying to keep the soil cool to deter the toxic weeds that favor those hot summer days (i.e. hemp dogbane)!

My bluegrass is starting to seed also. and it is short and thin in spots This video makes me feel better about what I'm doing. I had to pull my almost 2 year old twins off their mama who is due anyday., I don't wean, but I feel that I have no choice.

...let me add to this, my take: The universe is constantly changing. At some point in most of our lives, we decide that life is just about perfect-then it changes. That's when opinion comes in, and we stop reveling in change.
What struck me was, what do you have ahead of you that determines how much to leave? Please share with us your grazing plan or planning regime that says or shows that you will be back in 30 days. It's great to see it today but what does the future resource look like? Take your wheeler and give us a ride to take a look at what the future holds. Or is this a trade secret. Folks are trying to make decisions not about today but in 30 days perhaps. We gotta walk, measure and plan inventory. I got my 25 day plan which I hope to show. I know, I'm giving you the business but I think it's important. Thanks Buddy!
Our problem is keeping up with the grass growth with all the rain. Our whole rotation across all farms will be 25 days. I will be doing a video on what we have to come back to shortly.

Can you talk about the business cycle of the ranch? when and how do the cows become cash in hand? do they just go to auction?
Most of our stock is sold at 12-24 months old. The auction only gets our cull cattle, Everything else is direct marketed to customers.

Greg, I got a sheep question. I know you don't worm your sheep. But other then ear tags do you treat your new lambs or ewes with anything else?
We do not ear tag sheep. We band the ram lambs and give them a tetanus shot at banding day.
Do you use lick tanks for any of your cattle? And how old before you castrate calves? 🙏🏻
We do not use lick tanks. Castrate at 12 months.

What happens to the winter hair that falls off? I imagine that some of it gets picked up by birds to use making their nests, but that can't take care of all of it, can it? Does it get stomped into the ground to add organic matter to it? Thanks!
It is organic, the soil takes it down.

Raise a superior product while healing your soil and producing healthy food for your community is a great place to start. Manage your farm in sync with nature also helps the bottom line. Once nature starts helping you, complements of you not battling her everyday, things fall into place.

We sell live animals that are processed at local locker plants. We also sell animals to other folks to finish on their own pastures. We also sell breeding stock.

Zero seed, but we did unroll hay in the cocklebur field several winters.

Impractical in a commercial operation. Go ahead and use it in your personal garden if you can justify the cost.
Another input that I don't need, My money goes into animals with 4 hooves that heal soils and gives me babies every year.
@@christophergruenwald5054 Same thing was said about mob grazing for many years. The terra preta created by the ancient Amazonians is now being dug and used for potting soil and it regrows itself if they leave a foot or so of it.
