when you sound like the produced version of your song, you know you are basically meant to be legendary. Plus this song is haunting, beautiful, and real.
The lyrics also alludes to Biblical significances as well to emphasize the end of good fortunes. “Revelation,” “flood,” and “the river turns to blood.” The scarecrow that looks like Lucifer is an ominous reminder that the land that the farmer inherited bounds to be pummeled by nature at any moment. When the farmer’s forbearance comes to an end, he clutched on to his Bible and chose death as he doesn’t want to suffer anymore. This song is powerfully written. I can cry listening to this song!
Your very well spoken, I also couldn’t agree more. When i have time to stop and appreciate the song with good sound it’s very comfortable and so relaxing. I wish everyone could experience the comfort I feel..
I think the song speaks to how humans once knew how to live happy fruitful lives, but now we've degraded our lands, weather, relationships, and mental states
Chris Stapleton is the only modern country singer i knpw that doesn't have to edit his voice or insturment sounds to sound good, he plays authentic with the instruments he plays, if he uses any form of sound altering equipment it is very minor, chris stapleton puts every country pop singer today to shame
Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, Sierra Ferrel, Sturgill Simpson, Billy Strings, Jamie Linn Willson, Ben Todd, John Moreland, Colter Wall, Molly Tuttle, that's ten of them, in no particular order. I think I've made my point ;)
Don't know what or why, or when. But I do know that as of January 4, 2020, Scarecrow in the Garden has emerged as my favorite from the massive Chris Stapleton anthology.
I was brought up with my parents playing tunes all day and nearly every night. I enjoy all different types of music at certain times, I can listen to him anytime day or night, alone or with a bunch of friends. Must say when I’m alone up north around a fire, listening to him, it always feels like one of the best times !! Scarecrow In The Garden & Death Row are my favs! Here’s a tip, get a very good music source, bye yourself near a outdoor fire, set the sound level at your preference, have 2 Beers, & 2 puffs!’ You won’t be disappointed!
Bem, ele veio da Irlanda do Norte Well, he came from Northern Ireland Procurando pela terra do homem livre Searching for the free man's ground E ele veio apostar sua fortuna And he came to bet his fortune Em um arado da Virgínia ocidental On a West Virginia plow Ele construiu uma casa de madeira He built a house of timber E criou um filho ruivo And raised a redhead son Então eles trabalharam na terra juntos Then they worked the land together E rezou para que a chuva caísse And prayed the rain would come Tem um espantalho no jardim There's a scarecrow in the garden Que parece Lúcifer That looks like Lucifer E eu tenho lido apocalipse And I've been reading Revelations Com meus pés descalços no rio With my bare feet in the river Bem, o filho ruivo ficou mais velho Well, the redhead son got older E tomou uma esposa de olhos castanhos And took a brown-eyed wife E os campos eram verdes como dólares And the fields were green as dollars Porque a terra era escura como a noite 'Cause the dirt was black as night Eu cheguei no final de setembro I came in late September O mais jovem de três The youngest one of three E minhas irmãs se casaram And my sisters off and married Então a terra foi deixada para mim So the land was left to me Tem um espantalho no jardim There's a scarecrow in the garden Que parece Lúcifer That looks like Lucifer E eu tenho lido apocalipse And I've been reading Revelations Com meus pés descalços no rio With my bare feet in the river Eu conheço cada um dos postes de cerca I know every single fence-post Cada pedra por aí Every rock that goes around Eu estive olhando para aquele carvalho vermelho I've been staring at the red oak Onde eu sei que eles vão me enterrar Where I know they'll lay me down Os campos não são mais como eram The fields ain't what they once were As chuvas parecem inundar The rains just seem to flood E eu estive pensando sobre esse rio And I've been thinking about that river Me perguntando como ele transformou em sangue Wondering how it turns to blood Eu estive sentado aqui a manhã toda I've been sitting here all morning Eu fiquei sentado aqui a noite toda I was sitting here all night Tem uma bíblia na minha mão esquerda There's a bible in my left hand E uma pistola na minha direita And a pistol in my right
I don't know if it's about anyone in particular. A lot of Scottish and Irish immigrants settled in the West Virginia Appalachian region. I think it's just about a generic immigrant who came to the U.S. and lived a good life farming the land. Now, his ancestor is frustrated because he isn't living the same kind of dream as his fathers.
This is his most underrated song by far, such a great story and his voice gives it life
I realize I'm pretty off topic but does anybody know a good website to stream new series online ?
@Jensen Byron i use Flixzone. Just google for it =)
Couldn’t agree more!
It’s my favorite ❤
Definitely in my top 3 of my favorites by him. I love the lyrics and the music in this.

truly...one of the artists I prefer to watch performing live, rather than the studio version...I've only heard a handful of bands pull that off.
Couldn’t agree more! In fact, I think this almost sounds better than the produced version!!?
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
There’s an applause all the way from Broughshane, County Antrim. NORTHERN IRELAND
A Bible in my left hand
And a pistol in my right
God, it just gives me chills every time
@@purdhupley7864 just discovered this song a few weeks ago !! So immaculate!
Me too. Pistol for self deletion? Or to make a living?
Great imagery in the song. It makes me think of the Ulster Scots frontiersmen that came to Appalachia in the late 1700s.

I used to listen to this in loop when my father passed away.
Wow! That must have brought tears to your eyes each and every time
Same! I lost him so suddenly.
My favorite Stapleton song

This is hands down my favorite song by him!!! Wish it was way bigger than it is this is a #1 hit!
I agree with your comments 100% and I think this song is another example of Chris's ability to sing a wide variety of songs 😊😅😮😂❤😂😊

I also feel bad that he has to sing 20 (Good Songs) over and over and over…and give it the same heartfelt feelings!
This song is so epic. It sounds just as great live as it does cut in the studio.
I’d love to see him in Concert, I’m in Canada, my Dentist seen him…said it was awesome. His favourite concert.
I love this song - and the harmonica on this version is great! :)

Excelente canción 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bem, ele veio da Irlanda do Norte
Well, he came from Northern Ireland
Procurando pela terra do homem livre
Searching for the free man's ground
E ele veio apostar sua fortuna
And he came to bet his fortune
Em um arado da Virgínia ocidental
On a West Virginia plow
Ele construiu uma casa de madeira
He built a house of timber
E criou um filho ruivo
And raised a redhead son
Então eles trabalharam na terra juntos
Then they worked the land together
E rezou para que a chuva caísse
And prayed the rain would come
Tem um espantalho no jardim
There's a scarecrow in the garden
Que parece Lúcifer
That looks like Lucifer
E eu tenho lido apocalipse
And I've been reading Revelations
Com meus pés descalços no rio
With my bare feet in the river
Bem, o filho ruivo ficou mais velho
Well, the redhead son got older
E tomou uma esposa de olhos castanhos
And took a brown-eyed wife
E os campos eram verdes como dólares
And the fields were green as dollars
Porque a terra era escura como a noite
'Cause the dirt was black as night
Eu cheguei no final de setembro
I came in late September
O mais jovem de três
The youngest one of three
E minhas irmãs se casaram
And my sisters off and married
Então a terra foi deixada para mim
So the land was left to me
Tem um espantalho no jardim
There's a scarecrow in the garden
Que parece Lúcifer
That looks like Lucifer
E eu tenho lido apocalipse
And I've been reading Revelations
Com meus pés descalços no rio
With my bare feet in the river
Eu conheço cada um dos postes de cerca
I know every single fence-post
Cada pedra por aí
Every rock that goes around
Eu estive olhando para aquele carvalho vermelho
I've been staring at the red oak
Onde eu sei que eles vão me enterrar
Where I know they'll lay me down
Os campos não são mais como eram
The fields ain't what they once were
As chuvas parecem inundar
The rains just seem to flood
E eu estive pensando sobre esse rio
And I've been thinking about that river
Me perguntando como ele transformou em sangue
Wondering how it turns to blood
Eu estive sentado aqui a manhã toda
I've been sitting here all morning
Eu fiquei sentado aqui a noite toda
I was sitting here all night
Tem uma bíblia na minha mão esquerda
There's a bible in my left hand
E uma pistola na minha direita
And a pistol in my right
Pretty sure it's "With my bare feet in the dirt."
Who's this song about? Anybody know!! As I'm from Northern Ireland
Its just about an immigrant who came into bad times and eventually took his own life
Spanish Harlem is not just a pretty phrase.
Lyrically it sounds like a 3rd generation farmed suicide. Chris is a great story teller.
Bout ye mate, check out the origins of the word “hillbilly” the Ulster Scots have deep roots in the Southern states of the US
Dave grohl playing geetar for him. Lol
