    A film by my friend and student Johnny Robinson, starring my friend Richard Council, filmed in part at my dance studio in Rochester NY, starring many of my students, and narrated by my husband Alden Stevens. It was such an honor to be a part of this project.

    I saw this video for the first time when I was a beginner in 2010. It cemented my desire to continue to learn and envelope tango into my life. Later, I attended workshops with RichardCouncil. When I want to encourage beginners to continue...I ask them to watch this video.

    I am a no talent dancer but that does not prevent me from watching. This video got a hold of me about 5 minutes into it.
    I must say I have never heard it described so perfectly as to what the Tango is. This video explained it so eloquently. This was the first time I heard an explanation and it was perfect! This couple obviously have spent many hours together practicing and it showed. Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing and wonderful no complaints commercials to ruin it!
    Thank you for sharing! 👏🏼👏🏼🕊

    This captures the magic of tango truthfully. I am super shy and close embrace Argentine tango is the only physically intimate couple dance I can ever do, as the honest intimacy of the moment this dance celebrates is able to break through my guard.

    I first saw this dance on a silent film with Rudolph Valentino. A 1920s film. It was done with passion by him. He took those long strides. Back and forth. Nothing extraordinary. George Raft was another actor, I had seen dancing the Tango, more than once.. He added flair and made it sexy. Didn't know he was a dancer. I only knew him as a gangster in movies.

    The heart of tango is deeply connected with music from the golden age. This movie is a commercial for tango, non-tango music, sexy dresses, fancy moves,speedy ganchos ,boleos, lift in the air...that's not tango. That's a show. Tango you cannot see from outside, tango magic happens between the two and not for the outside recognition or applause.

      Sure! This is only demo , to attract people to dance and give them the idea what is up in the dance.I do not blame the author for making it "comercial" .Presentation is fine and nothing to nag :)

      Over a quarter of the film is dedicated to a Milonga in a well-established tango community. The filmmaker felt it was important to show real tango. As for the music, the accompanying score was composed especially for the film by a well-known tango musician. And Vuelvo al Sur is a lovely piece as well. The filmmaker is a longtime and passionate tanguero. His goal was to share his love of the dance.

    This is a really fantastic decription of what is tango. In many other videos they apply western moral judgements about the role of Tango. That is all bullshit. There is a natural role for a man to lead and woman to follow. When you learn tango as a man you will sometimes have to dance the womans part, when you do that and close your eyes you realise its just a magic feeling, submitting to the movement of someone else with the music. Its soo beautiful.

    Latin American yoga -- union, sacred, yoking the yin & yang in the here & now; time/space merging in one; two hearts collapsing into one soul; purpose & passion, the deepest grief & purest joy mixed in bittersweet bliss; freedom, abandon, forgetting, connecting, reconnecting, returning, remembering whom and what we really are, where we really came from, why we truly exist... passion without solitude, meditation without the remote himalayan cave, lovemaking with clothes on, art as spirituality, dance as transcendance, emotion as perfection... latin american yoga...

      Everyone who can walk is able to dance the Argentine tango. Forget all those RUclips demo videos! The most important things are not visible: the subtle body movements, the thoughts and the emotions. Find a teacher who suits your needs and (learn to) dance tango.

    • @dlmzx
      @dlmzx 7 лет назад

      Yes you can. It is even more gracious and stylish at half or 1/4 the speed of this video. Think 1 step every 4 beats or so. Then flexibility is only a matter of patience, waiting for the woman to come the center of the embrace after each slow lead step.

    • @nickraja17
      @nickraja17 6 лет назад +1

      You don't need to be.
      Once a Argentinian tango dancer and teacher told me the most important thing in tango is embrace. Just do simple steps and keep a right comfortable and warm embrace for woman. She will just melt in your arms and secretly would wish not to get away from the embrace. And that is the real Tango. It's a dance to bring woman close to you then why the hell you want to do something like sacadas where you have to make her away from you. Those were her exact words
