- After seeing Zach of the Prop Agenda channel hack this "Hauntley’s" prop for his Hatbox Ghost build, it gave me an idea for a project of my own, also inspired by the haunted Mansion.
So join me for part 1 of this build where I focus on the pedestal for my animated Halloween bust.

The Singing Busts are a group of undead characters who appear in every version of the attraction except for Mystic Manor and whom act as the lead singers of Grim Grinning Ghosts in the Graveyard.
From left to right, the names of the busts are Rollo Rumkin (Verne Rowe), Uncle Theodore (Thurl Ravenscroft), Cousin Algernon (Chuck Schroeder), Ned Nub (Jay Meyer) and Phineas P. Pock (Bob Ebright).
In every direct version of the Haunted Mansion, the five busts appear in the graveyard sequence singing Grim Grinning Ghosts. The lead singer of the group comes in the form of Uncle Theodore, whose bust is damaged and has its head section broken off.

This video felt more detailed and in depth than recent ones. I like it!
Glad you liked it!
Looking fabulous so far.
FYI if you didn’t already know, you can get FREE large polystyrene blocks from TSC (Tractor Supply Company). Not sure if you have one near you. You just have to ask and if they have any. It’s their “recycling program”.
I’ve called my local store and they don’t do that anymore, unfortunately. I think it’s likely a result of some California environmental legislation.
@@VanOaksProps oh darn.
Appreciate your detail of the process. Looking forward to the results
Thanks for watching!
Mr. VanOaks! You need face and lung protection when working with foam! :o
Great video Derek sir
Glad you liked it!
@@VanOaksProps roll on part 2 sir lol n ty for our Instagram convoy makes me feal better bout not trying to live full live sir
I am now wondering if the Jabberin’ Jack and the other talking props from the same company use the same little projector.
They do!
@@VanOaksProps Oh boy. That opens up all sorts of possibilities.
I was just at Disneyland so sad that haunted mansion is closed for so long!
Yeah. Hopefully not for as long as the rumors are suggesting.
I’m sure the wait will be worth it!
Question, when you glue the fome together , you spray something on it first, what is that you spray ?
It’s water. Gorilla glue has a better bond when the pieces are damp.
Where can you find XPS foam in SoCal?
Home Depot & Lowe’s both carry it from time to time and I try to stock up
Do they sell the 4 × 8 sheets? @VanOaksProps
@@jeffjackson4465 yep
For me I would have used a child's button-down with tie in a suit from a thrift shop and Monster Mutt over it and blend whatever I need to into the foam
Been a fan of your videos and how to's for some time. I am curious why you don't make yourself a hot wire cutter for some of the thicker pieces you create, as it produces no dust. I have made one that will cut 6" thick foam (three 2" pieces glued together), and I'm sure the 7 1/2 inch thick bust would be an easy adjustment. Always eager to see your new videos come out.
Keep up the great work.
And he could make a video out of making it!
I've found nothing helps find whats odd with a piece im sculpting faster than looking at it in a mirror! For some reason, inverting it makes mistakes just pop out.. Looking forward to seeing where this is going.
Thank you showing the need to step away! It truly is a good thing and can produce some of the best work!
I have a feeling that the shoulder and body part is too thick front to back. Also, looking at other actual busts the anchor point from the body to the base on the body looks farther forward that how you anchored it. I hope this might help.
I came to the same conclusions. 👍🏻
Soo I've been playing with the idea of taking a jabbering Jack and placing the insides in a similar head to madame Leota
It’s the same projector inside both props, so you could definitely do it.
You are so creative, so far it looks amazing.
Thanks so much!
Awesome build so far! As always, I’m certain you’ll have a phenomenal piece when done.
Hope so!
You'll figure it out!!
Thanks! After I stopped filming for this video I had a breakthrough and I'm much happier with how it looks now.
Love it!
Thanks!!
