Actually Jack Black is still playing in a band with Kyle Gass, the band is called Tenacious D. They were also in one of my favorite video games of all time Brutal Legend. Also that’s me when I talk to people about my favorite bands.
Hey, sorry, sometimes my eyes go wonky (and definitely my memory since I used to watch this movie a good few times per year) was the gym teacher not the IMAGE OF Kyle?
Apparently the kid that plays Lawrence actually was insecure about his part, and even asked if maybe he shouldn't be in it. And it was apparently that exact insecurity that made him perfect for the part.
NO JOKE, I was literally thinking about this movie. I was thinking about Jack Black's wrong choice of words when he said he "touched the children" at the parent/teacher conference. Don't know why I was thinking about it, but it's a hysterical scene. It urged me to search it, and this came up.
Holy shit Cody I think you aged me like by a decade asking if Jack Black was ever in a band...my dad constantly played his music, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, U2, anything that had a great sound, he'd listen to. I was always obsessed with rock music, and I love punk, so this movie hits all the best places. I also love that it subverts the "Liar" trope of all the kids getting pissed off that he lied and used them, but instead it's them genuinely loving music now. Excellent pacing and a perfect subvert. Just such a feel good movie about where the essence of rock and punk come from: acceptance.
i love this whole movie, but other than the performance i think i love that pep talk scene with tomika & dewey the most. this movie is almost 20 years old and i can’t name a single other one that has a scene that earnestly positive and uplifting towards fat kids. ❤
Im so sorry for your loss. My dad died when I was in high school like 14 years ago. He laughed so much during this movie and loved it just as much. It was a favorite of his as well :)
My sister was a fan of the school of rock show that was on Nickelodeon When we found out there was a movie I wasn't bothered, but then I found out Jack Black was in it and I was like HELL YEAH!!!
I can't help but realise that Summer looks like THE real life version of Wendy Testaburger from South Park. 43:30, I always thought Spyder looks a douché in that "top"!
To be fair to gym teachers, there were hundreds of kids in my elementary school, and the gym teachers knew every single one of our names (or our last names, at least).
Jack Black's band is called 'Tenacious D' (short for "Tenacious Defense") and it was formed by him and his best friend/mentor Kyle Gass in 1994. It's a comedy/rock band. They had an HBO comedic miniseries in the late 90s (that's when they became famous), they have released 4 albums so far and they also released a movie, called "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny''. They have also gone on tour several times and they're still active today. If you want to see some live performances, you should look them up on RUclips.
9:10 he was and I believe still is! Him and Cage Glass are a duo called Tenacious D and they actually have a movie called “Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny”
This movie almost didn't have a song for the battle of the bands. Jack Black just happened to be at a Strokes concert and saw the opening band Mooney Suzuki that sounded perfect for the movie. He asked them if they would write a song for the movie, and they wrote that song in one day and saved the movie.
This is the movie I ever saw this jack black. Love thus movie and you are right Jack black is an amazing actor. And the kids in this are amazing musicians. FYI he was in a band called tenacious d. I have never heard them just heard of them so yeah. Also what I love about Dewey is that as the movie goes on he really starts to become a teacher for these kids and really cares about them.
Love this reaction Cody !! This is also one of my favourites. I’m so excited because my school is doing a school production of school of rock in 2023 😊
i remember my aunt (the cool aunt) showed us this movie when she was babysitting when i was like 9 and my mom got upset because it was pg-13 and my aunt was just like mary, that is the entire point!!
I love this movie it's fun to watch a great rock musical movie I use to watch this many times and even watched it in music class at school good times good times feels good to see this movie again watching your reaction I figured you'd enjoy this movie
You asked if Jack black was in a band but you said before the movie started that you have seen tenacious d so I'm confused tenacious d is a real band homie since 96
@@ItsTotallyCody they also had a show for 6 episodes on hbo back in 98 it was amazing yeah listen to there first album it's self titled it's a masterpiece
Thank you for this reaction Cody! I loved it!!! By the way, I'll tell you... Tenacious D is the band you're looking for. They are a musical comedy duo who have been performing for many years in parallel to their film career. They even made a movie inventing a whole crazy story about the formation of this duet! "Tenacious D: the pick of destiny". We can't wait for your reaction! 🙈🙈🙈
I think more than being about music, this movie is about giving kids self-confidence and finding each unique passion and voice. The way that Zach and Tomika play their characters is awesome, showing the sorts of stuff that kids actually go through.
this is one of my favorite movies of all time! it's also based on a true story of a guy who opened a real rock school for kids (Paul Green's School of Rock). a friend of mine went to the original one in Philly when I was in high school and they did jam sessions after school in preparation for real rock shows (I used to attend some of her shows). great reaction, as usual Cody ❤
For the longest time I only ever knew jack black as this school teacher this movie was all I knew him by, now that I'm an adult I know a lot more about his antics 😂
Original script: girlfriend was supposed to be in the scene where Ned gets the check from the school, and when ned goes to call, Dewey sets something on fire to distract her, while hanging up the phone
Love this movie! First time I saw it I was at a new school that I hated, away for a week on a trip I equally hated. They took us to watch School of Rock one evening in an auditorium and it was the first time that week I laughed, or felt happy. Love it to this day.
This is a very funny musical comedy film about a has been rock star turns schoolteacher and helps kids play a rock concert. There was a TV series based on the movie on Nickelodeon. There have been talks about a Sequel but nothing happened.
I'm glad all my favorite reactors are finally discovering this gem. Me and my kids and grandkids play it often and sing the songs often and quote it often
You don’t know tenacious D? You don’t need to try to find it. it’s not like it’s away. Just search it on RUclips. They have plenty of well made music videos.
RIP Freddie. the drummer was riding his bike when he was hit by a drunk driver
So glad this movie is getting more love on movie RUclips!! It’s one of my all-time favorites, and the musical is great, too!
Actually Jack Black is still playing in a band with Kyle Gass, the band is called Tenacious D. They were also in one of my favorite video games of all time Brutal Legend.

Also, Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny is one the most epic rock movies ever.
Hey, sorry, sometimes my eyes go wonky (and definitely my memory since I used to watch this movie a good few times per year) was the gym teacher not the IMAGE OF Kyle?
I saw them in Vegas for New Years 2020 and they are freaking good live
Kyle Gass is great in Elf
I love Tenacious D. 😂he should react to their film TENACIOUS D AND THE PICK OF DESTINY! 👍🏼👏🏼
The cast has actually done reunion performances
Apparently the kid that plays Lawrence actually was insecure about his part, and even asked if maybe he shouldn't be in it.

When you're dealing with Jack Black, that feeling would go right out the window, he just makes everyone happy
@@projectdelta50 too bad he's ableist
@@videohistory722how so?
@@SusanaCanales1 he openly supports Autism Speaks, KNOWS theyre bad and blatantly ignores anyone who tries to warn him
Led Zeppelin before this was very particular about who they let use their music back then. This was apparently the first movie where they did so
Yea jack black asked them to use the song in front of the crowd
Miranda's song at the beginning was from cats, made by Andrew lloyd webber. Who then went and made this movie into a musical.
I’m a huge musical theatre nerd and I never made that connection! Nice!
NO JOKE, I was literally thinking about this movie. I was thinking about Jack Black's wrong choice of words when he said he "touched the children" at the parent/teacher conference. Don't know why I was thinking about it, but it's a hysterical scene. It urged me to search it, and this came up.
This movie is very nostalgia and very entertaining in my opinion.
Great work Cody and keep it up.
Fun Fact about the text on the dvd cover: it's actually the font made famous by Rolling Stone magazine
Zacks solo at the end is the same one he was humming earlier.
In the original script, it was supposed to be that Dewey ran the teacher over instead of slipping in the shower
Lol No wayyy that would have been a completely different vibe haha

their entire show at the end is one of the greatest cathartic scenes in movie history.
This is one off my favourite films off Jack black
Right up there with King Kong (2005) & the Kung Fu Panda movies.
i love this whole movie, but other than the performance i think i love that pep talk scene with tomika & dewey the most. this movie is almost 20 years old and i can’t name a single other one that has a scene that earnestly positive and uplifting towards fat kids. ❤
Rock N' Roll isn't a phase, it's a way of life!
RIP to the kid character Freddy, who died in a motorcycle accident
It was a hit and run and he was riding a bicycle.
He didn't say music was a waste of time, the electric guitar was, as far as I know.
I love this movie so much. It was my dad favorite movie. He passed away 5 years ago. I watch it all the time and think of him

Miranda was so young in this movie
My siblings took their music class when they were young. My sister plays guitar and my brother plays drums and banjo
Tenacious D Is the name of his band. Tenacious D pick of destiny is a movie about there band.
The principal: "We had a field trip that went awry"
The parent: "Some lunatic has kidnapped our kids"
LOL. all in the perspective.
Don't know how I'm just catching this now, this is my favorite movie!
"Spider", the guy that replaces Dewey in No Vacancy, is now a District Attorney in my area. He's cool.

Tenacious D is his band. They have several albums and still regularly rock out.
You should watch Nacho Libre. Jack Black is great in that.
I'm so happy you found out about Jack Black and his band Tenacious D
The principal was great in “Working Girl.” Please watch it!!!!!!
Amazing we didn't get a sequel to this.
We got a Nickelodeon sitcom, but it wasn’t that great.
