Did anyone ever call him Bob? When I was a kid and we started buying cards--the tombstone year--the Roberto Clemente in Action card was the most prized. We actually traded them like kids do. An older kid would buy packs and sell us prized players he'd get for a profit. It was already starting....Another older kid gave us his collection of cards from the 60s. Oh man, was that ever a day!
I recently got an unusually good deal on the '55 set from a dealer that doesn't specialize in sports cards (and didn't grasp the importance of the Clemente's value relative to the other HOFers). It had the typical 70-30ish L/R centering issue but will grade a 4 or 5, yet the set was priced as if you'd get a 1.5 or 2 Clemente (since a few of the HOFers were just a 2). Hoping PSA is good to me when I send it in.....
I've been wanting this card since I was 8 years old, I'm 38 now and ready to pull the trigger but I want to buy it raw and send it to SGC because I like how it looks in a tuxedo. Any tips on how to spot a fake?
Awesome cards! If I were ever to own a Clemente rc it would prob be an A or 2.5 at the highest. The 56 looks great. Looks like the 55 but with nyc graffiti behind it ;)
JY _ SportsCardGuy the background of the 1956 is actually from a photo taken of Clemente catching a line drive off the bat of Peewee Reese. The outfield wall is an advertisement for Esquire Boot Polish.
Mr. Beckett has stated this iconic card is his all time favorite. Wow only 1 PSA 10 on record.

The clemente rookie is an iconic card for sure. Great card.
Who would ever imagine that all 3 rookie superstars would go on to be future -of-famers??
Nice.
