- The Cape Wrath Trail - Day 10:
Starting at River Oykel, finishing at Glendhu bothy
The Cape Wrath Trail is a challenging 230 mile long-distance trek through the Scottish Highlands. Passing through wild and magnificent landscapes such as Knoydart, Torridon, Fisherfield & Assynt.
It is regarded as the toughest long-distance backpacking trail in Great Britain. Crossing remote, sparsely populated and potentially dangerous mountain country.
Filmed in 1080p on the DJI Osmo Action camera & edited on my phone using the Kinemaster app

Of all the Cape Wrath series I've seen, this is by far the best and perhaps the only one that accurately portrays just how hard this trail is. It's a pity you have to take the bog route to view that waterfall.
An Epic day .. definitely a type 2 fun day.
That looked a seriously tough day. Kudos for finishing. One tip to ameliorate smelly clothes is to decant a small measure of lavender linen spray into a spray bottle and spray it on your clothes (sparingly) when they get smelly. It hides the smell but also it’s antibacterial so it helps negate it. Additionally midges (and other insects) hate it, so it’s a great repellent (a Scottish fisherman gave me the tip). The downside is it makes you smell like an old lady 😂. You can spray it on your pillow to help you sleep and your tent to repel insects too.
That is a great tip! Tbh I was spraying 'smidge' on myself like aftershave 😁
Nice one Darren, Just so many memories brought back by your videos. I remember being at Glendhu and waking in the morning and watching seals in the loch. Push on mate you're doing well. Cheers Bob
Oh wow!
Phenomenal demonstration of endurance and determination. Much respect Darren. Definitely not a sanitised version of vlogs… real sense of challenge. Thank goodness we don’t have smellovision. 🤣🤣🤣. Take care 👍
Hahaha. Cheers mate
Bloody brilliant Darren. What a slog. Looked like a tough day. I laughed out loud when you said 'Kenny Cairn' . Nearly there now. ATB Lee.
Haha! Cheers matey 👍

Blimey I feel like I need to have a rest up in a bothy just watching your series 🤣. Appreciate your efforts and editing top work 🤙🤙
Haha, cheers buddy

🙌🙌🙌
Bloody hell the force is strong in you. I don't think I would have had the will power to go back out after getting to first bothy.
Sun came out, so I felt strong 💪
Nice one Darren really enjoyed all videos 👍👍
Thank you👌
Brilliant mate. Looks really tough
👌👌👌👌
Opening 50 seconds had me depressed 🤣🤣🤣, can't wait for the bogs to come , and the weather looked atrocious .
You grafter!!! That’s was absolutely brilliant, considering your body telling you to give up. That was hard especially the Bogs!! Well done mate 👍
Ha! I found the last pathless couple of miles around the bogs very challenging. 😁
Not Far To Go Now Good Work
👍👍👍
water , water everywhere , at least your not going to dehydrate , fantastic scenery .
Yes, I've done mainly very dry trails before. Was lovely being able to get fresh water whenever I fancied it 😎😎
Hi Darren. I’ve only just discovered your channel so I’m binge watching loads of your videos. Your doing an amazing job is showcasing just how tough but stunningly beautiful the Cape Wrath Trail is. It’s certainly on my bucket list. Keep going mate, your doing amazingly well. 😀🥾⛰🏴👏👏
It's an epic trail for sure
That was tough going Darren. Fair play to you
Tough but oh so rewarding 😁
I'm so glad you went around the back of Ben more assynt it is a magical area, this was one of favourite days on the trail. Well worth the effort to avoid inchnadamph if you don't need to go there.
You need to treat yourself to a river wash one evening, better than nothing! Great effort as always.
Yeah I figured there's nothing worth seeing at Inchnadamph.
I kind of enjoyed it, until I got too cold 😊
So much respect! Subs are going up and well deserved. Thank you for all the effort. Keep pushing
I really don't know how you can walk through all those bogs and still continue onwards with the hike with wet feet? Respect to you buddy!
The wonder of merino wool socks 👌👌👍👍
Great stuff Darren. Keep your chin up mate. 👍🏼
🙏🙏🙏
This trail look so hard
It's worth the effort, honestly
Super! This series will no doubt prove to be an invaluable reference to future Cape Wrath thrill-seekers!
Will you do a post-trip kit evaluation?
Cheers man. Yes at some point
Done that bog route in the dry and it was heavy going. Will be taking a different route next time I do it.
I don't blame you 😂👌
Love your content! Doing the west highland way in August. Looks hard but your pushing through, where is the umbrella from? Got decent waterproofs but it would come in handy.
Cheers mate.
The umbrella is this one...
Euroschirm Swing Liteflex Umberella
Handles moderate gusts ok, I hate rain on my face!
Allows jacket hood to be down, so more comfortable.
Enjoy the WHW, I had a great time doing it. Very social trail 🍺👍
How are you attaching the umbrella to your pack ?
I used this to attach it.... ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/handsfree-umbrella-clamp/
I did try a homemade shock cord setup but this item helped secure it a bit better
I could adjust it so it deflected the wind quite well
Any gust of wind from a different direction would cause it issues.
Was worth the weight penalty 👍👍
