Rise Against is a special band to me and it's weird that I never made a video like this, honestly. So here it is.

The last few months have been particularly interesting for music. Simple plan, three days grace, Shinedown, and a number of other bands I've enjoyed for years released new albums which have been pleasantly surprising. I like rise against, though admittedly I'm not as well versed. This video will be a good blueprint for a deeper dive, so hey, thanks for the dopamine hit 👌

I discovered Chris's channel through his Rise Against covers and I went "fuck, this guy has other videos and they're cool".
Also finally, someone talked about the transition between Prayer of the Refugee and Drones. That's still my favorite part of the album and I thought I was the only person who cared about it.
Drones has always been one of my top Rise Against songs for exactly this reason, the goosebumps from first hearing that transition were insane. Injection has gotta be my favourite from the album though
Bro I think the only 4 guys on RUclips who noticed the transition between prayer of the refugee and drones just got together. I actually wrote a paper in my music appreciation class about that intro

I actually got into Rise Against because of you. Now they’re one of my most listened to bands on Spotify. Tragedy+Time is my personal favorite thanks to how relatable it is.

"From Heads Unworthy" really deserves a mention, it's such a hype song. The chorus is the really punchy and the lyrics are great

As a massive RA fan when I was a teenager, this list is so accurate apart from Appeal to Reason and how can you not love But Tonight We Dance?!

Really appreciate a niche vid like this! I’ve listened to rise against since middle school/HS (although very casually when hearing you talk about it) so getting to hear a channel I watch talk about it was super interesting. Personal favorite was satellite as it was the gateway into the band itself, but I’ll definitely be checking out more of the albums you put in high tier. Whenever I find a band I usually latch onto only a handful of songs rather than entire albums, but with Rise I’ve been expanding it but by bit

I gotta be honest, Rise against will always get me, and it will always be bittersweet. Simultaneously reminding me of the best times of my life, and immediately after how bad I destroyed my whole life.

As the one who actually tweeted asking about the three albums, I feel obliged to respond to this one.
I got to know Chris from episode 1 of Sacred Symbols, and Rise Against before that through Tony Hawk’s Underground (Like The Angel to be exact).
I wholehearted agree about Sufferer. I first downloaded this album and decided to hear it in bed to sleep with it. It’s hard to put it into words, but the first time I heard the tempo change for the chorus in Prayer left me speechless.
The song got so ingrained in my mind, I remember one of my younger brother’s friend challenged me to a Guitar Hero 3 battle, any song I wanted, so I pretended to never have played the game and went on to do Prayer 100%.
I haven’t listed to them much after Endgame, but I really appreciate the effort and passion when talking about one of your (and mine) favourite bands.

great tier list! i like rise against a lot, and while punk isnt the genre i listen to the most they are one of my favorite punk bands. i actually started listening to them because of you funny enough. i already knew some of their songs like swing life away and savior, but in one of your videos you mentioned theyre one of your favorite bands and that encouraged me to listen to them a lot more so yeah

I have been listening to Rise Against since Appeal to Reason came out in 2004. I grew up on this band and love them to this day, even their new albums are great. Nowhere Generation is pretty good.
Also, Greenday, Gorillaz, and Breaking Benjamin were huge for me growing up.
Found out about Breaking Benjamin because of Halo, and I've never pursued the rest of the songs. Still hold up?

'Appeal to Reason' came out in 2008. Siren Song of the Counter Culture was the one that came out in 2004.
Man what a trip this video was. Sufferer and Witness, Siren Song, and Appeal to Reason were on constant repeat for me in high school after I discovered the band through Prayer of the Refugee in Guitar Hero 3. Songs like that, Ready to Fall, Give it All, Drones, Savior, Good Left Undone, and Life Less Frightening instantly take me back to those days. I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore and Tragedy + Time off The Black Market album really do it for me too but I fell off after that.
Good shit. I think I’m gonna have to dive back into this band soon, especially with the newer stuff and revisiting RPM which didn’t do anything for me as a kid. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Chris!

Recently subbed to this guy and had no idea we have the same favor band, holy shit. This was a beautiful surprise, I enjoyed this immensely.
You're the whole reason I got into my favorite band (Rise Against) , thank you! Also, I'm glad you mentioned the positive aspects of Tragedy + Time, since that song has gotten me through some tough times and I like that even though it is kinda of corny, unlike other "hey you've got so much to live for " type songs, it doesn't shy away from the truth that it's gonna hurt and suck for awhile before it gets better, it makes it feel more genuine to me and because of that it's definitely one of the better songs I've heard regarding that context. All that being said , I hope this video is foreshadowing that you'll be doing more music soon, either covers or original songs, because you're really talented and I look forward to it if so!

My recommendation is to listen to then albums in order to hear the evolution of their sound. I'm honestly jealous you get to go through all of the albums for the first time. I've heard ever song like a million times that I don't appreciate as much as I should

Your take on wolves having different mixing is actually factually correct, Bill Stevenson their normal producer took a break from the band on that album so they had a different producer than normal.
I'm kinda mid on it, I like every song on it, but when I listen to it on vinyl I get really excited for side A and then the tracks on side B don't hit as hard. I'm actually a huge fan of house on fire tho. That opening rift gets me hyped and when I found out the lyrics are about his relationship with his daughter growing up it all clicked for me.

What The Black Market is about never clicked with me until now. I don't totally agree with where everything was ranked but it was really enjoyable to watch one of my favorite youtubers talk in depth about one of my favorite bands.

And it’s WILD, because this is legit the only tier list where I completely understand and agree with every single placement, even down to the reasons why. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I didn’t, I’m just saying how neat it is. And, bro, when you added that GOD column just for Suffer & the Witness, I audibly cheered! That is not just best Rise album, but, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest albums of all time. MY MAN!
I’m not the biggest Rise Against fan, but Endgame and Appeal to Reason hold a special place in my heart. They were basically the sound of me going through high school.
I really should get more into them. Outside multiple songs from those two albums, I don’t know much from them besides The Good Left Undone, The Violence, and Paper Wings. I just might listen to them more thanks to this video, actually. Thanks, Chris

I found the Unraveling one day in a drawer in like 2005 and was blown away by Six Ways Till Sunday. 3 Day weekend is also a banger but it's so short.

A bit late here, but your review was great ! As an other huge RA fan in my mid 20, I think I can still say they are my favourite band. We are actually almost sharing the same tier list, although I tend to place RPM and SSOFCC on the god row, just above TSATW. But I can understand why you are feeling this way.
I think you also nailed my take on Nowhere Generation. This album came out in june 2021, but I'd say it's only been a year since I really started to enjoy it a LOT. It is actually an amazing work of art, just as Nowhere Generation II.
I was listening to some of these as you went through. Put on Survive and instantly recognized it! Didn't know how, turns out it was on the Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 soundtrack haha! Brilliant!

I'll recommend these guys until the day I die. Joliette is an incredible band that needs more attention. Their album Luz Devora was my favorite album of 2019. I don't understand a lick of what they're saying, as it's in Spanish I believe, but they are incredible. Love the vid! More like it are always welcome.

I found Rise Against through your covers like five years ago and they're probably my favourite band now. Pretty much on board with your rankings, although I'd've swapped Nowhere Generation and The Unraveling, and bumped both Appeal to Reason and Endgame up by one.

Hey man! Sick video. Rise against always stood out to me because i found the vocalist very distinctive. Another band like that is Sleeping with Sirens. Its a post-hardcore band. I think you'll like the album How it feels to be lost by them.

I really enjoyed this Chris, which is partly biased because I already grew up on Rise Against and punk from my parents but even if I had never heard of the topic it's the passion for the subject that made the video shine. Hope to see more covers and originals soon! Reality calls and anxiety have been two of my favourite songs since I first heard them and I've downloaded them several times through different phones (plz give us tabs papa). Your cover of hurt and state of the union are absolutely killer too.
For new music, though they're not new, if you've never heard No Use for A Name and Lagwagon's older stuff, I'd highly recommend them, especially Leche con Carnè and Trashed. Bad Religion had always been a top favourite of mine as well, and classic Dead Kennedy's never get old. AFI is complete trash now, but their older albums Shut Your Mouth and Open your Eyes and Black Flags in the Sunset are so different than their current music it seems like a different band. All the best man, been watching for years and excited for the video project you talked about and next weeks podcasts, love from Nova Scotia :)

Yo Rise Against is headlining in a city near me with my favorite band The Used in July! It will be my first time seeing Rise live and now I'm fairly certain it's going to be one of my most favorite concerts!!
Love seeing your opinions on this. Have to say personally I thought acoustic really suited Audience of One, Miracle, and even (hot take) Voices off Camera better as tracks and made me appreciate them way more (even though miracle is defs corny, I still think it’s moving). Totally agree about the Sufferer and the Witness tho I would have ranked Appeal to Reason a little higher. Also I got into them bc of you so thank you for that man, they’re straight up my favorite band now.
