I was about 10 when I saw this in a theater in Chicago in the early 1960s that I sneaked into because I had no money. I loved it then and still enjoy seeing it today.

It's hard to believe Basil Rathbone who played in the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes in the 40s is actually 70 years old here. He did The Magic Sword movie a full 20 years after his role as Sherlock Holmes. He passed away 5 years after he did this role.

@anczerewicz1 i used to run around yelling "this fly has a mighty sting!" Hah. word on the street is that basil rathbone was one of the best swordsmen in the world, but he had such a perfect badguy vibe that he had to play villains, and so lose all his on screen sword fights, hah. Same sword master trained them for errol Flynn robin hood and princess bride, one of his interviews for princess bride, he talks about basil rathbone a bunch.

Another movie part of my childhood. The Magic Sword is an excellent mediaval style tale. Gary Lockwood was excellent as Sir George with his magic sword named Ascalo, his magic shield, his magic armor, and his magic horse. His arm companions were also an excellent team of courageous knights. Basil Rathbone was also a great villain as the evil sorcerer Lodac and Estelle Windwood was very good as Sybil the sorceress. A beautiful tale with a beautiful ending. I have seen that movie when I was a young child, and later as an adult. I still enjoy this movie. I hope that The Magic Sword is avaliable in DVD and Blu-Ray. A great classic movie.

I had forgotten completely about this movie and suddenly I recognize all these scenes, memories buried from almost 50 years ago. It is strange and wonderful. I recall how some scenes really scared me (like the skull floating up to the surface). What a treat, thanks for posting it!

This movie is all over the place on the "Interweb" but this version is markedly better quality than any of those other copies! Thank you, I saw this movie 60 years ago on a ship traveling from Taipei, Taiwan to Los Angeles, USA with a couple of hundred other families with kids my age. There was a rec area for the kids to build models and every afternoon there was a movie for us! The Magic Sword was one of the most memorable - at 7 years old (almost 8) that ogre gave me a bit of a fright! Thank you for providing a watchable copy!😎

I never saw this movie as most American movies were banned after Fidel Castro took over Cuba not allowing any movies from the US filmed after 1960. I'm glad that I escaped Cuba in 1980, and now can enjoy some of these old films. By the way, I find Basil Rathbone to be very old in this movie (68 years old) as I do remember him when he played a part in Errol Flynn's Robin Hood and a few Sherlock Holmes movies, which I was fortunate to watch. Thank you for uploading this old flicks from a youth I didn't have in Fidel Castro's Cuba. By the way, in 1962, I was only 10 years old.

I’ve been ISO a movie for 40+ years.
Very similar to this, but the man looking for the princess travels alone. He finds a weaver of time to help at one point.
I think the princess is trapped in a snowy forest.
I would so love to find it while I can.

I don't know why this present generation lost the ability to act this kind of movies in a clear and dry environment looking very natural. The movie is sweet I love old movies than the present❤ this kind of movies is best shoot in middle-east or in a very dry climate with skilled actors who makes things happen. Movies like clash of Titans are nomore and can't be acted accurately as it was in the past

Nigel Bruce (Dr. Watson) died in 1953. That's about 9 years before this movie was made otherwise he may very well have been in it. The Sherlock Holmes series went from 1939 to 1946. I didn't realize Nigel Bruce in real life was only in his 40s when he played Dr Watson. He was born in 1895 and was about 58 years old when he died.

A truly terrible movie, presumably low budget, Basil Rathbone must have been desperate for work/money to take part in this, and for added unwatchableness the sound keeps dipping out. BTW he's the adoptive son of a sorceress (that way he gets to be a mortal human and son of a dead king and queen), the sorceress is played by the character actress (Estelle Winwood) who played the witch Aunt Hilda to Carolyn Jones's Marsha Queen of Diamonds in the Batman television series, she pretty much plays the same role here. The rest of the cast are eminently forgettable.

I love this, glad I found it. I heard a lot about it when I was a young girl but never actually had the chance to watch it….money was tight in my family and I had to choose between watching one film or other…..thank you for sharing and helping this oldster get a chance to enjoy a good movie. It’s another classic film which I rather enjoy watching…..I really don’t care to watch many of today’s films at all, they are too negative and not for me. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🎥
