This is really cool, are there any plans to do anything else with it beyond just the clone, like putting it in a pedal enclosure or maybe a 3 or 4 band version. Not tryna go "Oh you should do this and this" I'm mostly just curious if there's any plans or ideas kicking around.
Actually a pedal version is already in the prototype phase right now, and I am hoping to have a demo of that available in a few weeks. I'm planning two version of that: a straight LHZ in a box for passive bass players, and one with pre and post gain stages using the same LF442CN op amp that will allow you to drive the preamp even harder... I have a gut feeling it might make an interesting overdrive for guitars. I've also had folks playing Steinberger and Ken Smith reach out asking if we will offer a revision tuned for those instruments. As soon as I can get some comprehensive photo sets from those preamps, I can reverse engineer those as well.
Hey @AgingEngineer. I'm in Mexico City and order a Spector Skyler Accord model. I want to change the preamp for the LHZ-03 and the Barts pickups for the EMG 40DC. I heard what you said in the video regarding the Spector bases for the potentiometer so I guess if I order my LHZ-03 from ebay that won't be a problem anymore right? Or should I consider anything else before ordering it? Any other advice you can give I'll appreciate it. It's the first time I am going to modify my bass, probably I'll do it with a luthier but just want to know if I need to conaider anything else or if it would be as easy as ordering the new preamp and pickups, take the ones from the bass and just put in the new ones...
My Euro LX4 should be here any minute via UPS. I definitely want to get the LHZ 03 preamp in it. I hope the guy at Guitar Center knows what he's doing because that's where I have to bring it to.
Absolutely! The LHZ is tiny, and we have not found any basses that it will not fit into. We've got many clients using the NS Pulse 2 with the LHZ in it, and it's even running inside a few Steinbergers.
