  • For Tight sites that can't afford a foundation, or maybe you can just avoid one, we can bring in a crossbase for a tower crane. It's steel beams on a small pad that carry the load like a self-erecting tower crane. The difference is that we don't need a lot of space to fold out, back in, or the 21' of swing radius. We can do it in as little as 12'.

I just found your channel. Your videos has been very helpful. I just started to learn how to operate cranes. At the training site they have a few tower cranes erected to practice on. Your videos have helped me get a good idea on the basics. Iuoe local 150 Chicago area. I operated concrete pump trucks the last 7years.

Just found your channel. Man wish you had more time for us on the tube lol. Just post random unedited videos. Your steel video was epic!! Best of luck to you. That was 2 years ago and you mentioned you were getting ready for some big moves. Please update. I’m down in SoCal IUOE Local 12. Just getting started on my truck crane career.

Nice. I just bought my first truck crane for my yard today. I started a tower crane company. I'm supplying small cranes here in Seattle. Up to 213' of reach as of now. We also have materials hoists to load up apartment buildings. We are at the 6 cranes and 2 hoists level at the moment. Ordering 4 more hoists next week. Growth marches on.
I'd like to do more videos. My biggest hurdle to figure out is how many of my tricks I want to be seen. We've erected tower cranes in as little as 3.5 hours. Reeve and load test the same day. That's when we own them and get to prep them properly.
I bought a bunch of gear to capture the vids. I'll get to it, but it might take a little time. This year I'm set up to erect 15 cranes and it's January. I'll get more vids up for sure this year.
Thanks for the support. We're with Local 302 and Local 86. I've been a member of both over the years.

Where did you go? Last two videos had comments turned off. Come on bud

I started a tower crane company four years or so ago. I would love to start doing videos again with honestly pretty great crane information. But I'm buried working long hours still. I don't know that I'll find time again any time soon. Maybe if the economy collapses... Let's just hope I don't make videos for a bit longer.
Sorry I've been gone. It's for a good reason at least.

rotyag completely understand that bud. I posted a few myself after seeing guys like you post. Not easy. I’m still working but just had to take a different dispatch. Last company fired me after i got kicked off a big job of theirs for refusing to sign some covid BS. Thanks for the quick reply. You take care

Hi, I’ve always been interested in knowing how the load chart works vs Rought terrain ground cranes. Can u maybe make a video on load chart and tricks? Thanks 👍🏼 2 your videos

Hey, I don't know if I was busy when you posted and I just missed it. Tower vs mobile are two different worlds. Let's use a simple AT hydro vs tower. On the AT, you want to find your set up. Weights, outriggers, front, rear, 360... You have to have all of that. Are you a 1:1 from any slope so outrigger pressures don't matter? Well, don't matter is relative of course. Then you have to worry about your block weight, rope weight, parts of line, extensions, swing away stored or in use. Are you in the structural or the stability portion of the chart?
On towers, parts of line make a difference on some cranes. My cranes have a smaller cheaper hoist system. They use parts of line to gain mechanical advantage. Generally speaking, a Liebherr might use a bigger motor to make up for the lack of parts of line. It's expensive and uses a lot of power to make up for that. But the results speak for themselves in the highrise world. Anyway, typically a tower crane will only have one counterweight configuration for each jib configuration. So if you have 50 meters, or 164', or jib, then you'll have a set chart. Structural or stability no longer comes into play. Usually there are only two deviations that come to mind for a given radius. Do you have 4 part operation available? And are you running more than maximum freestanding? If you have 4 part available on a single trolley, most of the time you have to deduct the 4 part option. if you have a second trolley like Potain has available as an order option, then you might have the option to pick more in two part after you are out 50% of the working radius. But if you have the second trolley out, you'll lose a lot of capacity. The weight of the trolley, second block, and the weight of the rope. Might be 2000 lbs. But the block and the rope are already factored in when you look at the chart, as long as you aren't taller than the maximum free standing height.
One of the biggest difference in tower cranes vs mobile cranes is you can often find a wind load chart based on the square meters of the load. I've never seen one for Liebherr. But many other manufacturers have them. If I can ever get caught up with work, I'll see if I can structure one of these videos. It's complex. But I plan large complex erect and dismantles, so I might be a good person to do it since I have to play in both worlds constantly.

I wouldn't expect any in the short term. And probably not from the seat anymore. Truth is that I'm buried with work in building a tower crane rental company. Over the next year I may be able to get back to some. I'm erecting cranes as well. This should lead to good videos one day, but today I'm the guy selling, over-seeing contracts, planning, executing in the field, and managing operators and keeping service going. But soonish, I can start to take off the extra hats and get to have some fun. I've been at it for two years and it's getting close to where I won't be so overwhelmed everyday. And I need an excuse to go buy new cameras. Thanks!

I worked out there a lot between 2001 and 2006 with NWTC. Had some good times with your brothers and sisters and the Ironworkers. Mainly Tui as the Ironworker that always jumped in with us.
