    Thank you, loved the point about the"wet side" and surface tension and how liquids move, I knew it, but hadn't extended that knowledge to coffee extraction.

      Yes, so many people think the issue is them tamping wrong when it is really the level of the machine or the wet path it will follow

    Very interesting video! I use a bottomless portafilter every day with my La Marzocco Línea mini. At the beginning I was getting channeling all over. However, over time I have been able to almost totally eliminate them.
    I am still working on my technic of preparing the puck for the extraction. There is no question that the bottomless portafilter has helped me improve my shots.
    Your video explanation was excellent!
    Thanks again and looking forward to seeing more of your video content. They have all been extremely informative.
    Good day or goodnight!
    Until the next video!
    Thanks again!

    I prefer the bottomless mostly because I don't have any heat loss going into the portafilter. Although some coffees regardless of your technique you're going to have the occasional spray which means you're cleaning up something often a mirrored back surface. I don't recall ever having an issue getting coffee to go down into a espresso cup with a small exception of the occasional wormhole and spray. More often than not I'm putting a double into a single cup with a milk based drink like a latte or cappuccino.

    Very good video, that's the first upgrade I made years ago, like you said it the only way you know how good your coffee extraction is..I started to use the dwt method which does work well, better than using a leveler..

    For my home set up (Elba2), I found I had a problem with clearance once I started using a scale to weigh the output, so I got a naked portafilter to give me more room, but once I had a naked portafilter and larger basket I found the consistency of my shots decreased, so then I had to get a distributor to help with that...the good news is that all that gear (and money) has helped my consistency.

      Sure we can do this. We discussed this, and we thought we should relate it back to specific technique issues? Like under filling? Too much pressure? Angle dose, is that what your thinking?

    Great video! It made me understand why my extractions were a bit too quick with my spouted portafilter. I got my naked yesterday and we can definitely see when it starts dripping. This is truely fascinating. Will you make a video showing issues with the extraction and help us troubleshot them? That'd be very educational. Thanks, as always. I'm glad I discovered your channel. Hi, thanks for the video. I use a naked portafilter and stop my shot when I think it's finished rather than on time alone. I'm looking for some hints on picking the perfect moment to stop. I see the stripes fading but when exactly does blonding start? Thanks for any info

    • @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters
      @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters  2 года назад

      Great question. Run the Esprssso down the end he of the cup. So the colours float on the surface. You will see the blonde colour and then know when to stop. Also small micro bubbles will form

    Question:-We've just purchased a Gaggia Classic Pro, I understand how to dial it in, and pull a shot, with the aid of scales and timer. However, when foaming the milk, do I need both the brew and steam button switched on, or just the steam button. I said the latter, but My darling other half says I should have the former...? HELP !

    I've thought about getting a naked PF but I'm not sure that "knowing" my shot is uneven or channelling will actually help me much. The logic goes, I use one and see uneven flow. So I then say to myself, "Hmmm I need to distribute my grinds a bit more evenly and try and tamp more level". Same fix applies to channelling. All good you say. But what if I just always assume that is going to happen and skip the naked PF and concentrate on doing the perfect prep instead? So I try to distribute the grinds as evenly as possible and try to tamp evenly, every time. It won't always work but I'm at least applying all the common "fixes" anyway. Also, I can usually tell when I channel, as the flow changes and I can taste it. I can also look at the puck to see channels... Seems like the cool looking pours is really the only reason to get one.

    • @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters

      Interesting logic, yes as long as you can assess what’s happening and also have this understanding then you can apply your logic🤙🏻

    When using a bottomless one, is there any benefit to the taste or amount of crema you extract? I heard the bottomless ones create more crema.

    the inability of splitting shots is what's been putting me off from getting a naked handle.. Interestingly enough, I rarely see an espresso video where they split the shots on youtube, is it an exclusive ozzy thing? What size of cups does artisti use for capp / latte?

    • @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters
      @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters  3 года назад

      Yes in Oz we do a lot of ristretto shots. So 22.5 g in the basket and 22.5 out I the cup for a small 9oz latte or a 8oz cappuccino Cup

  • @Claialva

    How do you do a half espresso shot??? I’ve looked at almost all videos here and don’t see a reference. I know you can split 1 shot, however, how would you do a half shot without throwing out the other half if you won’t drink a full shot or have someone to share it with?

    • @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters
      @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters  Год назад

      A naked is not designed to split, its all about a ristretto or a normale, you can catch is an then divide it into cups if you need to.

      You need to buy one exactly to stop the spaying, because you will know what you are doing wrong.
      Spraying is NOT normal - it is a sign of YOUR mistake.
      When you solved the problems, you can switch back to the split one.
