This film caused what was called the "Twister Effect" where loads of people got into meteorology and storm chasing. Many modern storm chasers acknowledge that Twister wasn't very accurate, but still inspired them to get into their field.
I'm one of them. I can say that to this day, this movie is legendary. I became a SKYWARN storm chaser for the NWS in Texas partly because of the movie even though I had already had a strong passion for storms like these before hand.
That’s very cool. So it’s essentially the meteorological world’s version of the Indiana Jones movies. Those movies are even less accurate to archeology, but many American archeologists cite one or more of those movies for igniting their love for studying history.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Paxton in this film were amazing. They were such characters in this story. May they still RIP forever. Their legacy lives on in these classic films
Both were phenomenal actors. Favorite Bill Paxton movie is and to this day will be Aliens and Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in the Hunger Games and played an amazing Villain in Mission Impossible 3
Kristen thought this movie was about the cut-throat, high stakes world of professional Twister; the game ;) I love how "the new woman" in this movie isn't portrayed as an absolutely nightmarish shrew and alos gracefully bows out with her head held high once she sees the writing on the wall. It's so rare in movies.
Yes. It would have been very easy to make her the ‘bad guy’ for their relationship to end, but instead she was very dignified and did what was best for her and for him.
Although, the trade off of having her being so nice makes the protagonists seem like jerks for dragging her along in their little reconciliation. I guess she got a memorable trip out of it. lol
You've just watched the most legendary movie. This is what I grew up with as a SKYWARN storm chaser. It never gets old. Seeing it brings back great memories. The movie is very realistic aside from a few scenes. My family has a tradition. At the beginning of storm season we cook Aunt Meg's dinner to kick it off. It brings good luck to the year's storm chasing. I myself will listen to Van Halen's "Humans being" on the way to a major storm. Get ready for "TWISTERS" July 19th, 2024. Will be based off Bill Paxton's original idea for a sequel. Storm chasers like I & big chasers like Reed Timmer have already been watching them make the movie. They know they CANNOT screw it up. Timmer himself said "Go big, or go home." Rest in peace ❤ Bill Paxton "The extreme" & Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Us storm chasers miss them. Wish he was still here to see his ideas be brought to life.

By the 60's, there was a handful of storm chasers working with state highway patrols to track and monitor extreme weather. "It's so far" -- when talking about the storm shelter at the start of the movie. I used to live in Arkansas, part of Dixie Alley and in the past included in Tornado Alley, and had friends in Oklahoma. You do not want a storm shelter under your house or near it or near any large structure that if destroyed will likely dump what can be massive amounts of debris, maybe an entire roof or wall or house, on top trapping you inside. The idea is to not wait until the last moment to go to your shelter. Once there are severe storm warning and or a tornado watch (meaning conditions exist that could spawn a tornado, you get in it then. You don't wait for a tornado warning (meaning a tornado has been verified to be on the ground) and if close have to attempt to outrun it and all the debris it's throwing to only then attempt to reach your safest place to ride out a tornado.
@@michaelanderson1476 This year's numbers are quite high. Normally it is around 1100 per year. 2023 storm season has broken records due to the numbers of tornadoes.
When Melissa heard bill say what he said over the radio. She didn't think she was a filler. What she realized as a therapist was that Joe was traumatized by the loss of her father and got a bit obsessive, which drove a wedge between her and a guy who was perfect for her, and who truly loves her. As well as knowing from this couple of days experience what his true passion really is and that she is kind of pulling him away from what his passion is. While simultaneously realizing that she doesn't really love him for who he is, just the facade, he has put up to get away after falling away from Joe.
The only part of the film which is incorrect is the talk about the Fujita Scale. You cannot LOOK at the tornado and know what it's rating is. You determine the rating by looking at the damage left behind. Like the next day or whenever the folks paid to do damage assessments. I've been chasing since high school in the mid 60's. I have seen my share as have my sons. As they became old enough they would go with dad to watch. You guys were really into it. Great film. I always enjoy seeing reactions to it. Oh yeah, there is a Wakita Oklahoma. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
@@StormChaserMaci. Exactly although it is possible to throw cows around I don't know anyone who's reported seeing it. But it is perfectly possible for it to happen. That's probably a surefire way to die if the shed gets hit.!!
@@Gort-Marvin0Martian Reed Timmer has admitted to seeing flying cows. He said he watched an EF3 tornado in Kansas pick up a cow & throw it. Animal was not harmed at all other than some scratches. So yes tornadoes can throw cows, but not quite like in the movie.

Twister is such a great movie. The FX might be a little outdated by today's standards but it has such a great story, wonder characters and some good fun moments also. The characters brings some wonderful humour to the movie but not over the top or dumb and the choice of actors is spot on. Helen hunt is a stunning woman and a wonderful actress. I also have a love for tornadoes myself, one I've had since I was a child. I used to dream of them and now and again, still do. I've always wanted to go storm chasing. Of course, ut would be rather frightening at times but also an amazing experience. If you can face one of those then you can do anything or at least, face anything that life throws at you. Great video ladies. Have a fantastic day, take care!
@blueninjaproductions7816 Oh yes, I agree! Twister is one of my favourite movies. Still am yet to see the new one, although I don't feel it will be the same kind of movie. While the FX may have improved, I often find that if too much time has past since the last movie, the feeling the original gives can get lost somewhat.

The love, dedication and education of true chasers is amazing. All for the goal of increased warning times and predictions. I would love to go on one of the tourist trips that go nowhere a danger zone but $5k is a bit much.
Love is being crazy... but on the same page. I like how you saw how Jo villainized Mother Nature because of her history, but while in reality tornadoes are not random they form because of the right combination of terrain and conditions.
The guitar solo during the end credits is the Van Halen's this movie has got one hell of a soundtrack. The DVD I found very used doesn't cover all the songs that are played during the movie.

OMFG. I looooove this movie. Yeah the science and all that is wonky and inaccurate. But the camaraderie and likability with each character is so true. One of my childhood friends went to college in meteorology and does storm chasing during twister season. It truly is a fun thrill like in the movie. AND they’re making a sequel called Twisters with Glen Powell. CAN’T wait for that one 😀
True story. I lived in Nebraska when a gigantic tornado rolled thru. It literally lifted up a herd of cattle and dropped them in another field. I drove around after it was over and there were dead horses and dogs all over the place. Really sad.
True story: While in the theater watching this movie, it was suddenly stopped and the lights went on and we were asked to seek shelter. The movie watchers thought it was a joke giving the movie, but as the first giggles and gufaws started to escape their owners lips the REAL tornado sirens started to blare across the city. Luckly it was just a powerful downburst that took out half a new housing area, so no one was seriously injured. Enjoying your content!
I just had to say, the 90s were not that long ago. It wasn't the dark ages of effects. Thinking it is a long time in terms of movies just shows a lack of experience and naiveté. Check out the wizard of oz. 1939.
The first movie I saw with the Fiance' Melissa, was called "Crossroads" (1986), with Ralph Machio, (The Karate Kid). Another really awesome movie too. 15:58 You definitely have a life while chasing. You only spend 2-4 days out per setup, and setups basically end between October and March, with about 5-20 strong setups per year. Also, most chasers don’t chase in “the woods” (East of the Mississippi River), so they only go out for the first couple of days on each round of weather. The only people brave/crazy enough to chase in the woods have tech that also allow for night chasing, and they aren’t bothered with getting super close (good filming range), since it’s all about the data from the Dopplers. Filmers chasing in the woods are psychotic (sorry, Sean Casey, but I’m calling you out on this).

The 90s were not the stone ages, LOL.. we had a lot of tech, as a matter fact, it exploded in the 80’s and especially in the 90s
And to think that there's around a thousand tornadoes per year there!! Crazy times indeed!!🌪😱💪❤
More than that now. Numbers pushed 1300 this 2023 season.
@@StormChaserMaci. damn I can definitely believe that!!!!
@@michaelanderson1476 This year's numbers are quite high. Normally it is around 1100 per year. 2023 storm season has broken records due to the numbers of tornadoes.
“I know her name!”
When my husband does something similar to that he instead says, “I can words!”
To get a good laugh. It works.
For those who havent heard the sad news, RIP BILL PAXTON!!
He died nearly 7 years ago.
@@andrewreiber7691 👀oh my you're right, I guess it was being reported recently b/c it was his bday or death Anniversary.
That was the only thing about the movie they got wrong. Otherwise it's a perfect classic.
@@StormChaserMaci. Exactly although it is possible to throw cows around I don't know anyone who's reported seeing it. But it is perfectly possible for it to happen. I mean there are stretches here and there. Like at the end when they strap themselves to the waterworks in the shed. I sure as heck would not do something like that.
@@StormChaserMaci. LOL, well that's Reed for you. I watch his stuff a lot. I think in spite of the Domintor he takes to many chances. But if he an his crew want to take chances that's up to them. I wonder what would have happened if they had been on that one particular road down in Jarrell Texas?
@@Gort-Marvin0Martian Don't get me started with Jarrell. That tornado earned its on own place in history for a reason. Idk & I'd rather not want to know what would have happened if Reed had encountered the Jarrell F5 tornado as his first instead of Moore OK, 1999 F5.
Thanks for the video!!
See you later!!
Stay safe.😊
RIP, Bill Paxton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Michael Crichton, and Eddie Van Halen.
I fell in love with you both when you saw the mashed potatoes and said what's the problem 🤣

The dance is called “The Twist”
The game is called “Twister”
The FX might be outdated, but they are still terrifying, especially the wedge tornado scene.
@blueninjaproductions7816 Oh yes, I agree!
Twister is one of my favourite movies.
Still am yet to see the new one, although I don't feel it will be the same kind of movie.
While the FX may have improved, I often find that if too much time has past since the last movie, the feeling the original gives can get lost somewhat.
The soundtrack to this movie kicks ass, especially the orchestral version of Humans Being by Van Halen, then the song kicks in.
I still love this movie! It's one that sometimes I'll put on just to fall asleep!
when they were in the shed at the end...all the debris would have shredded them into pieces. they would have died instantly. ever seen small objects stuck in tree because of the high wind force.
The little girl in the beginning is Alexa Vega
17:15 There was an idea to make that cow a zebra instead to tie it with Jumanji, which came out the year before, but they decided against it lol
This was shot as practical as possible
So glad they didn't do that
Before they reach that first tornado, when you first see it, that sounded like the music from total recall.
The love, dedication and education of true chasers is amazing. All for the goal of increased warning times and predictions. I would love to go on one of the tourist trips that go nowhere a danger zone but $5k is a bit much.
Eddie's death is the most undeservedly brutal death in cinema until the British assistant lady in Jurassic World.
She wasn't watching the kids like she was supposed to be. So I wouldn't say undeserved.
Kristen...I'm here for you. If you go, I go. Great job ladies!
Fun fact: First movie released on a DVD.
Seems like Kristen may have noticed the extra comments from the last video...sealed up to the neck today. 🤔🤕
Hopefully
Trivia: in the scene with Aunt Meg at their house while they're making breakfast, when the f3 outside of Purslane, when they start grabbing everything to leave and they show the TV, if you look on top of the TV there is a framed picture of Bill and Joe kissing Meg on the cheek.
Thanks for giving these two gorgeous lady a non horror reaction, it was nice to see them not so terrified.
Even though I never followed through to be a meteorologist, this movie gave me love and respect for weather.
My wife and I love this movie i got to see it in the theater when I was between 13 to 14 and it was awesome and really loud it was so loud that it broke a lotta speakers in theaters
I was 11 when this movie came out, made my dad take me to the theater to see it like 4 times.
Came out of the movie the last time to a severe thunderstorm and decided that was enough.
Always had a fascination with storms because of this movie…
When it 1st came out my mom took us to see it in theaters it was awesome and sounded like you was there with them
35:25. I don't know if I would trust those pipes to hold my weight. I hope the plumber did a good job. Especially seeing the union on the right side afterward.
One of my fav films and also my fav van Halen track in the beginning credits
I love this movie ❤
True story. I lived in Nebraska when a gigantic tornado rolled thru. It literally lifted up a herd of cattle and dropped them in another field. I drove around after it was over and there were dead horses and dogs all over the place. Really sad.
loved that they let Melissa leave with her dignity intact
True story: While in the theater watching this movie, it was suddenly stopped and the lights went on and we were asked to seek shelter. The movie watchers thought it was a joke giving the movie, but as the first giggles and gufaws started to escape their owners lips the REAL tornado sirens started to blare across the city. Luckly it was just a powerful downburst that took out half a new housing area, so no one was seriously injured.
Enjoying your content!
I also read a report about a drive-in theatre that was showing this movie when it went they had to take cover, just like a scene in the movie
Fun fact, this was the first movie released on DVD in the US.
Universal studios in Orlando had a virtual experience ride that was at the drive in it was super realistic.
One of my favorite movies of all time. We own it & I've seen it a bunch of times
Jan de Bont directed Speed as well.

No. They’re chickens. They don’t have complex emotions.
A decent film for Bill Paxton. Did you notice the actor from The Princess Bride?
My journey to the Hollywood movies started from this movie Rental DVD
I just had to say, the 90s were not that long ago. It wasn't the dark ages of effects. Thinking it is a long time in terms of movies just shows a lack of experience and naiveté. Check out the wizard of oz. 1939.
I thought it was about the party game! 😀
The first movie I saw with the Fiance' Melissa, was called "Crossroads" (1986), with Ralph Machio, (The Karate Kid). Another really awesome movie too. Her character was like polar opposite from her role here in Twister.I think she was about 16 or 17 at that time. You guys should really consider reacting to that one as well.
Amazing!!! The characters were GREAT! The new "Twisters" movie coming July 2024 is nothing without the original cast. Bill Paxton died and Philip Seymour Hoffman died as well. Helen Hunt wanted to do a sequel but the studio said no. Shame. This movie is incredible!
I love your energy and vibe Kristen. I bet you are a riot to know!
I ❤ Kristen energy watching movie classics like this one!
Both were phenomenal actors. Favorite Bill Paxton movie is and to this day will be Aliens and Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in the Hunger Games and played an amazing Villain in Mission Impossible 3. Awesome reaction ladies I'm glad y'all enjoyed it. Y'all should check out Aliens for Bill Paxton and Mission Impossible 3 for Seymour Hoffman
Excellent reaction. Although there were some fantastic musical moments you included but you didnt really comment on the score. I think its one of the best movie scores ever.
The new Twister movie coming out next year. I saw this one in the theater, and that was an experience.
I love the fiancé so much 😂
15:58 You definitely have a life while chasing.
TWISTER- fun for all ages brought to you by Milton Bradley
