  • I continue to highlight the key events and stories from the early days of Starfleet and the founding of the Federation of Planets, with this video looking into the Earth Romulan war's second year of 2157.
    With Starfleet effectively on its own, the NX-01 Enterprise was in everyone's eyes and sat out the early encounters for fear of the Romulan's ship stealing weapon. However that didn't last forever as Starfleet began to find victories in small ways across a number of systems as the Star Empire's advance falters.

    There's a, presumably, obscure Dominion War book series where the Enterprise-E discovers a Dominion attempt to bypass the mined Bajoran wormhole by creating an artificial wormhole. Now, THAT would've been something I'd have loved to see on the screen.

Nor is her participation in the Liberation of Betazed, the attempt to breach the Galactic Barrier, or her participation in counterattacking the Breen as they assaulted Earth. Those are in books, but all are quite old (older than RUclips, and by a fair margin in some cases) so, perhaps they've slipped off the radar.

She is both simultaneously the Flagship of the combined fleets and functions (like the Hyperion Ark from Mass Effect or the Battlestar Galactica) the last best hope for Humanity containing the best and brightest in case of the worse. So that even if Earth was to fall, a beacon of hope would still live on, with the potential to one day return and reclaim.

      Let's take a look at what was said on-screen.
      From Riker before the banquet: "The diplomatic corps is busy with Dominion negotiations." Hmmm ... negotiations are a post-war task, post surrender and pre-treaty. Or how about this, again from Riker when researching the Son'a: "Look at this. The Son'a are known to have produced vast quantities of the narcotic ketracel-white." Produced, past tense.
      Even in DS9 they didn't show every single second from the end of fighting, the surrender, through the negotiations to follow, but only the signing of something at DS9. That very well may have been similar to the signing of the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, as we don't know what document that is, it could be just the surrender instead of the peace treaty. Not everything we see in a Trek episode is inherently sequential and immediate, so Worf could have had time before or after that signing event and his departure to be the new Ambassador to Qo'noS.

    You explain it so much better than the novels themselves did! "The Romulan War" series of "Star Trek: Enterprise" novels were very poorly written, despite containing some interesting ideas. But the problem was there was basically NO WAR in a series of novels about a war. You were basically reading hundreds of pages of an "after-action report," and every now and then our main heroes (the Enterprise crew) would made a cameo appearance, talking about how much that battle sucked--after it had already taken place--and, damn, they were depressed about it. And...well, we just had to take their word for it.

    I find it funny that NX class is the only class of ship not named after the first one built. By all rights this should be Enterprise Class. The Enterprise NCC-1701 class of ship was a Constitution class the design being named after the USS Constitution NCC-1700 because it was the first one built. The Enterprise NCC-1701-D was a Galaxy class named after the first ship of the line USS Galaxy NCC-70637. SInce in the show they kept calling it the first warp 5 ship meaning it was the first one built so it should be the Enterprise Class not the NX Class

    • @d.b.4671
      @d.b.4671 4 года назад +2

      My headcanon for resolving this is that ship classes weren't named until after the establishment of the Federation. So for instance, what we know as the Daedalus-class would have been called something like an "NC-class" at the time, with a registry prefix of NC-xx; the Intrepid-type would be an "ND-class" with an ND-xx registry; etcetera. Once the UESPA became the Federation Starfleet, they revised the classification and registration system to what we're familiar with.

    • @Swiftbow
      @Swiftbow 4 года назад

      You're especially right, since NX is used for experimental ships from that point on. (The first Defiant is an NX registry ship.) Clearly they meant to do that when they started Enterprise, then forgot when they made the second ship of that design NX-02, when it should have been NCC.
