We conclude the series about neck and head by reviewing what we've learned so far. We also look at what a free neck is and how we can get one. Thanks to everyone who has watched this series! I offer lessons in the Initial Alexander Technique, which are conducted one-on-one with a teacher over Zoom. They are designed to help you gain conscious control over how you move your body. Most people have no idea what they’re doing with their body, and as they misuse their body, they end up with discomfort, pain, and other issues that they may not even realize are caused by what they’re doing to themselves. But how do you figure out what you’re doing wrong? And how do you change what you're doing and overcome lifelong habits? In an Initial Alexander Technique lesson, you will record yourself through Zoom, so you will be able to see and understand what you are doing when you stand, sit, walk, and perform other simple gestures. With the assistance of your teacher, you will come to understand how you are misusing the mechanisms of your body, and you will gain the ability to choose to use yourself in a more sensible way. You can learn how to use your body without pain. You can break free from long held habits. All you need is a system that works. I've noticed when I rotate the top of my sternum forward, bringing my head in optimal posture, it's like it seems to rotate my head anti clockwise, as it should but it looks like my mandible is at less of an angle to my neck, like it seems to be closer to the neck than the top of my head. I don't know whether this just shows how much growth I am missing at the bottom of my face?
I’m not exactly sure with out seeing you, but often people struggle to get lengthening at the front of the body (even after they’ve gained some good lengthening at the back). This will cause the chin to pull down, which is not desirable. It might be a bit of stretch and little uncomfortable, but you need to prevent the chin from coming back towards the larynx.
At 8:37 how do you manage to lengthen while looking up? I can only manage to look up while shortening? Like at most I could look up and pull the head back like a chin tuck but without tucking the chin down, just inside?
The head does move back in space as you look up, but you want to make sure the ear doesn’t go down in space. You also don’t want the back of the head to go down. It's quite a stretch for most of us, since we don't try to do such things almost ever. But remember, keeping the sternum vertical and the back lengthened is what really matters while you’re experimenting with such a gesture.
Hi, sometimes you get the tip to think of a string at the back of your neck to get better posture. This kinda lengthens the neck and the back (for me at least). Is this imagenary string a good guide for posture in your opinion?
To test your idea, you could record yourself with a webcam or camera. Start in your habitual posture and then apply your direction. See what happens. In my view, using the idea of an imaginary string is not going to be sufficient. It’s not very specific, and, if you haven’t tested out it’s actual effect, then how do you know it’s leading to improvement? I would guess based on the feeling; that is, you feel like you’re standing with better posture if you apply the direction. But I would say our feeling sense is not reliable. Our feeling sense is not good at telling good posture from bad. So it all comes back to seeing (using visual feedback) if you’re getting a positive effect or not.
His videos are fine? Maybe stop watching TikTok and RUclips shorts. He doesn't need to change his style, it's just YOUR attention span. Id hate to see him mimic the breakneck editing styles in modern RUclips. For me, this style is relaxing and informative. Don't fix what isn't broken. The day he has to put subway surfers at the bottom of the screen to keep y'alls attention is the day I unsubscribe lol

Holy those visual models with arrows indicating force were immensely helpful as I realised I have been doing the opposite
I really don’t get it, when I search all over the internet, it says to not have a forward heed posture, but you are saying otherwise
