    OMG the part about other kids laughing at the RUclips video subtitles during class was so accurate. I'm hard of hearing and sometimes the teacher would have to even turn the subtitles off because they were incorrectly saying super inappropriate things. It always made me feel very embarrassed.

    • @evolutionofelliot
      @evolutionofelliot  3 года назад

      LITERALLY THIS!! I didn't say it in the video, but like whilst I was editing it and reflecting on how I felt back when it would happen in class, I kind of felt humiliated? Even though I know they weren't laughing at me, they were laughing at something that I genuinely needed to help me and that made me feel rubbish cause it also disrupted the class? lol

    this is absolutely the most comforting video i’ve seen in forever! i discovered properly that i have hearing loss since the pandemic and i finally decided to see a professional, rather than just struggling along, and i’ve been referred for hearing aids now. thank you so much for this video! is there any advice you would have for somebody getting them for the first time (especially as a young adult)? :))

    • @evolutionofelliot
      @evolutionofelliot  3 года назад

      Hey that's so good to know you're getting them! Yeah sure, have patience with yourself adjusting to them! And also the sensation of getting the moulds fitted (if you haven't already) isn't the most comfortable but you will be okay! I'd also say take your time to yourself to rediscover and play with sounds? ik that might seem weird but there's so many noises that I didn't realise I had been missing out on when I got my hearing aids updated and so it was nice to take a moment to listen properly:)) an example of that is the vibrato in my guitar strings that I had genuinely never realised was a thing before ahah

    • @jacobgarner5976
      @jacobgarner5976 3 года назад

      @@evolutionofelliot that’s so so helpful! i’m not sure if i’m getting moulds yet but i was in the moderate to severe category so i might (??? not too sure). but i’m so so excited to actually hear things i’ve forgotten that i used to be able to hear (or things i’m hearing for the first time ever!)

I’m trying to learn ASL for her but that’s taking sometime. I’m slowly learning but wearing these mask makes it hard. She hates it and I hate it. So we work together to communicate

    • @evolutionofelliot
      @evolutionofelliot  3 года назад +1

      Hey Drew,
      Unfortunately I can't help you, not because I don't want to but I don't have any spare hearing aids/parts and also in terms of what fits and everything I don't know it would be a good idea to give someone else my hearing aids as they're always very user specific meaning my moulds are only meant to fit my ears and the electronic piece operates according to my deafness. Sorry I couldn't be more help but if you need help accessing audiology things in the UK, I know about the NHS services so I could do my best to try n help there? Have a good day! Also I empathise with hearing aids not working and how hard and frustrating it is and I hope you get it sorted soon! - Elliot :)
