US spokesperson addresses reports that Israel uses Palestinians as human shields

- US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel commented on reports that Israel uses Palestinians as human shields in Gaza, stating that it is “just a report at this point”. He added that the reports are “incredibly disturbing” and urged Israel to investigate.
The Israeli daily Haaretz published testimonies from both combat soldiers and commanders, revealing that Israeli army units in the Gaza Strip have reportedly used Palestinians, including teenagers, as human shields during their operations.
Soldiers explained to Haaretz that abducted Palestinian civilians were used to search tunnels or buildings suspected of being boobytrapped and that they were told that their lives “are more important” than those of Palestinians. The soldiers added that “it is better that they explode and not the soldiers”.
According to the report, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and other top officials were aware of Palestinians being used as human shields for operations.

1 Call reports troubling but unverified.
2 Urge the IDF to investigate.
3 3After months of investigation, provide no updates.
4 Leave it to the IDF to speak on its own behalf its words and deeds are in conflict.
