Snacks were 19 bucks…in LA it probably would be around 60…
I was going to guess $64 though I'm on the other coast. Not many good cheap things here anymore. Except you have the 99 cent fabric store near you and I'm jealous locationally.
I was going to guess 21 euros and $60!
McDonalds is now drive thru robbery.
My guess was $40… but that’s where I live on the east coast of the USA 🤷♀️
In Australia it would cost about $120. 6 x $5.50 coffees. 6 x $9 chocolate rolls (more if this means chocolate croissants). 6 x $5 (possibly more if from a nice cafe and not a supermarket) for caprisun drinks. Australia is crazy expensive. And we don’t earn that much😭 But hence our massive homelessness problem that endemic amongst older people and is also now hitting reaching the middle classes and most youth (into their 30s and then 40s now).
"It's okay to be late if you bring snacks." ✍-takes notes
works in office enviorment too :P Just learn your boss/team leader/manager favourite snack ;)
You'd be surprised how often that actually works. Most people can't stay mad if you bring them something
imma make that into a poster for real now hahah
Words to live by!
That's actually one of my life hacks ^^'
Laura, just loving your journey. You're making me feel more confident in doing jobs that I would normally expect a man to do. I especially love your collabs with Simone too.
Nice. As a man, you don't have to wait for man to do all of those things. Nobody showed me. A little research and just jumping in and tackling it. I like doing work around the house. Ive always liked working with my hands but my wife is no slouch. Hell she's better than me at repair sheetrock.
Liebe Laura, schön euch alle wiederzusehen: du, Felix und sogar mal wieder Smudo! Ganz toll, wie auch Haus Liselotte. Viel Erfolg!
@@Rufio1975you, like me didn't have to wait for a man to show you, because many men did things similar to what you did "a little research" for. You had, as simple and overused it seems, many role models. Many women didn't have that in their youth (i.e. women doing these things).
Do Laura, Simone Giertz and other women showing DIY here actually help many women to build up the courage or simply acceptance (?) that women are just as capable of doing essentially anything as well or as badly as men.
(And just for the record, men doing "female" jobs/hobbies and showing that here or on other social media fulfill pretty much the same purpose, intentionally or not)
I think its time for Capri Sun to become a sponsor! 🙂
I don't know about the prices of coffee and snacks in either place. But I know that you wouldn't have been able to *walk* to the store in LA. Let alone get there, get stuff, and walk back in less than 20 minutes. Yay for walkable towns/cities.
And not get shot or robbed in the process.
😂😂😂 (luckily) not in a small german village. Small children aged from 6 walk alone to primary school and back home here.
@@2512MaTHias Same where I live. My son was a bit miffed when he had to change schools and now have 2 km to school rather than the 500 m he used to have. But it is still along separated bike paths so he goes by himself.
In Germany we call walkable towns just “towns” 😅
Not everyone can or should drive a car. Old people, young people, bad drivers, people who suffer from drug addiction for example alcoholics. Imagine having all these drivers in cars... On the streets. It would be so unsafe.
As Winston Churchill once said, "When you are going through hell, keep going". Laura's motto also!
Jet lag, argghh!
Hugs from 🇨🇦
hey laura, i love your content and have been watching your videos for years now. thank you for that :)
i have to say that seeing you handle the clay leaves me a little concerned because of the amount of dust you must be breathing in. one ofe my hobbies is pottery and one of the first things i learned was to never breathe in the clay dust due to the dangers for the lungs. people exposed to lots of clay particles can develop silicosis, whis is quite similar to asbestosis and a serious risk for their health. seeing you working with dry clay powders over and over again in the last videos, makes me wish for you (and the others) to wear a mask so badly. i hope this comment helps and you stay healthy and creative 😊
The hardware store must love you
I hope your dual life is working well for Smudu. He's clearly well taken care of and loved, but I know sometimes customs and animals can be difficult.
I am going to miss you being in Germany. Everyone and their sister on RUclips live in LA. I really liked to follow a DIYer somewhere else. The culture, the surroundings, the craftsmanship of the other people helping too.
Yes, I could follow other people, but many who post in their own language, don't have subtitles in English.
I'm pretty sure her plan is still to go back and forth between the two places, no?
Oh nevermind yeesh, have to wait until October 😥
I'm as unreasonably sad about this as I am happy for Laura's happiness. It's a weird place to be in.
Agree!
I agree! I am from Germany and most content I consume is not from Germans. I like how homey it feels watching Laura. It's the little things like knowing the products that she buys, I can buy in stores around me as well.
Thank you Felix for the end 😂! It would’ve bothered me too. 😊
Thank you sooo much for making me curious about the ending without spoiling it!! 🙏🤩🤗
Me too!😂
I’m so glad I didn’t spoil anything! I didn’t even think about that! 😮💨
Yes! Felix knows.
@@ShaunTate Trust in Felix!!! 🫡
I just had my Mother's Day. I forgot to wish you your first(?) Mother's Day. Enjoy the little one! She will teach you so much about what you forgot to notice! That is pure joy!
This is great because now it's like Laura in Germany is a series I'm looking forward to while she's in LA, and Laura in LA is a series I'm looking forward to when she's in Germany.
Thank you for reminding me that we NEED to laugh and have fun. I loved this video!
You should hide a Tape mate in House Liselotte - so the owners 200 years from now can find it
In addition to EVERYTHING else, I love your coffee and food breaks.
I hope Laura’s hiding treasure for the next renovation can find even if that’s in another 100 years time
After seeing all that clay dust, your MX 1200 has a dust extraction accessory that attaches to the bucket to help keep that under control.
Quality Smudo footage in this one!
Knowing you are a maker I understand this might not be a topic you would like to tackle but…It has been very cool seeing all these innovative eco products on nearly a new build in Germany. In LA could you feature eco home products but on a pre-existing home? What’s available in the US, what could be done to improve a homes energy efficiency without having the option of starting from scratch?
Happy Mother’s Day!
I live in the same area as Laura, so my guesstimate is: 0,59€/Capri sun (that's what the price tag said), chocolate pastries depend on the kind but would be 0,80-1,60€ (let's meet in the middle at 1,20€) and coffee obviously depends on the kind (and size) but a lot of Germans like to drink their coffee black which would be around 1,80€ at a bakery. Times six equals 21,54€ - to be honest I suspect it was even cheaper since the bakery is located in a village/small town (in Cologne it might me a little more). Oh and we don't tip at bakeries. :-)
Guessing it would be about $45-$55.
So how are the prices in america for this? Im als from NRW Germany..
I agree with the coffee and pastry (I live in Cologne, where it's a tad more expensive, but if you adjust for this being a bit more rural, it checks out.
I can't imagine, they sell Capri sun for 0,59€, though. That's what it costs in a supermarket. I'd guess maybe 1,50€ or something?
@@andreibale89in Canada, at our most common coffee shop chain, a Capri Sun would sell for about $2 (1,34€), a small coffee is $3 (2,03€) and pastries are $1 (0,68€). So six of each would be $36 (24,37€), plus sales tax for $40.68 (27,54€). Small, independent coffee shops will charge more because they don't have the bulk buying discounts of a nation-wide company.
The prices would be pretty comparable in the US, but LA is one of the most expensive cities in North America, so I could easily see it being $50 (33,85€) for that order over there.
I missed Felix and you together! Keep going! ❤
Cant wait to hear about the U.S. based companies and wood working tools you are working with. I am needing a jointer and planer too!
I love seeing the whole crew and the shenanigans yall get up to
Es macht immer wieder Spaß dir zuzuschauen. Bei dem Lehmputz hätte ich am Liebsten mitgespachtelt. Das muss wahnsinnig viel Spaß machen.😊
Never too old for CapriSonne!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. As a child, when I worked in the Northeast, as soon as a building was framed, the heating was installed because that was the only way to settle the wood frame. A very important fact getting the frame to dry out in the building process. It's also quite cool that you have something in La + Germany. Keep up the good work. I love watching you progress.
Your simple joys-coffee, rolls, smashing Capri Suns-make me smile. I'm guessing $35 for that group snack.
More like 20 to 25€
In the US that order would be ~$45 + tip = $55-60. I'm guessing over there it's maybe half 😅
This was my guess too, I was like, so maybe fifty euros? I wonder how much it actually was. That capri sun looked like it was 0.59? They don't sell them individually where I live, but I'd expect them to be priced at like $1.25 lol.
In euro it would be arround 40, but dont know the actual price.@@solitarelee6200
I am guessing: €3.54 for the Capri Suns (because of the sign that they were 59 cents :) ). €9-10 for six Schokobrötchen - they are 59 cents at the Rewe supermarket where I live (51st percentile for living expenses in Germany) but when I was recently in Erlangen, I saw that they were €1.90! at Der Beck, so let's meet in the middle. Coffee is almost impossible to guess, depending on what they drink. At our work cafeteria, all of the coffee is fair trade and we pay €1.40 for an espresso shot, €1.60 for a cappuccino or café au lait (Milchkaffee), or €2.20 for a big café au lait. The chain bakery at the train station charges €1.60 for a shot of espresso, small cappuccino, or small cafe au lait, and €2.00 for a double shot of espresso or large cappuccino. If you eat in at one of the smaller bakeries in town, variations on coffee are €2.60-3.90. The most expensive coffee in my town that I know of is €5.70 for a large, all-organic cappuccino at the place that roasts its beans itself and also sells very expensive espresso machines. In contrast, when I was in the US last fall, I think a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte was $7ish.
@@yomintyfreshWith all your hard work, what is your estimated total cost?
You bounced back fast from THE LIST! It was good to hear you saying you'd got your energy back, it's not just all the jobs to be done, it's having a strict deadline to work to.
Best show on the internet.
Love the house progress and excited for furniture building in the future!! ❤
Watching you tidy up reminds me of when we were renovating our home. I spent hours each day tidying, but the result was worth the effort. ❤
I suspect that array of coffee and pastries would have cost well over $100 in LA.
Must be nice to see so many finished walls up! Just imagine when you get the exterior finished.
Great
Did blown in insulation in our house by myself. There are a few reasons not to do so:
- Adding new bales is impossible while you're standing on a ladder
- It likes to clog up if you put in too much
- Trying to get the pipe in the right place while also looking in other places is not efficient.
- Turns out the machine you need to blow it in weighs 75kg and is not recommended to lift by one person. Whelp.
Find somebody to help you. Just one person makes it much more doable, two makes it a nice job to do. And wear face masks while blowing it in; it's cellulose but mixed with some chemicals that will totally mess up your head if you don't.
I would love the progress on the rest of the walls even though we've already seen it. I found the clay videos so satisfying and I just enjoy seeing it come together. Thank you for sharing!
It looks so cool! Laura please use a protective mask clay is REALLY specially nasty for the lungs❤
The clay finish on the interior walls is so beautiful. That house is turning into a beautiful home with all your hard work and clever designs. And might I say that you too look beautiful after your time in Los Angeles. I think it's a happy place for you - or perhaps that's the company!
I'm not up on my German idioms, but "Wir rocken die Flocken" sounds pretty geil.
Composite structural materials, from Portland cement to Jello and other hide glues, are almost always "measure liquid, measure solids, pour solids into liquid, then stir." Kari Byron had a bit to camera on MythBusters about how complicated the instructions for ballistic gelatin are for something so simple as pour & stir.
„We rock the (isolation) flakes“ … really nice and proud commercial of the company who produces the blowable isolation 👍
Laura, it makes me chuckle how much we are alike in some ways. I too can nerd out on tools, details, and crazy ideas. I have enjoyed riding along on this journey with you and your team the last few years. Looking forward to seeing how you develope your new shop. I find it can be freeing to build something just to my liking. I'm also curious how you envision community and how you will go about building that. I live in a small city and it has always been a challenge to find weirdos like myself. 😂 Looking forward to next week's adventure!
You said that you like building community, and that brought back a thought I had about your space in LA. It looked like you have a lot of land for your workshop, and it could be fun to have more makers set up their own workshops like a little village.
I don’t want you to feel that this is judgmental, but I’m so struck by how much I love this version of your videos. The way you are work in on project, often with your friends, looking so wonderfully like yourself, speaking German, laughing and having fun etc all feels so ‘right’. This feels like your authentic you.
The US version of yourself doesn’t have any of this magic. I’m worried you’re not yourself in the US.
To say it a different way, I’m drawn to your videos because of who you are and the joy that this brings you and the viewer. I don’t see ‘you’ in the US. I hope this is because you just are finding your feet but I feel compelled to say - don’t loose yourself.
You and your team work so hard mentally and physically. I would have given up a long time ago. Thank you for sharing, I have learned so much from you.
❤️ always inspiration
Ich lieb das sehr. Bei jedem Video hab ich so Bock direkt mitzumachen. Danke für die Inspiration.
when you come back to the US PLEASE bring ClayTech with you
And Felix!
Snacks are cheaper in Germany. Here in LA, we buy a variety of coffee powder and many coffee makers and make it for the crew at home so that we can afford the electrician!
I enjoy watching you work on your projects. I love your energy and how you approach them. I also like that you include some bits in German. I don't understand much, but I try to make sense of it with what I know.
It looks like it's going to be so warm and cozy!
I was born and raised in LA, so my take on it would be to finish off the attic first before the weather turns summery hot. I've had occasion to work in attics in horribly hot weather and yikes! No more of that, thank you! Wish you all the best -- things look good!
totally enjoying your projects, your prosesses, your great attitude!🦌💌❤️🔨👍🥰
I visited a coffee shop in Kyoto you would love Laura! It was an old hotel that has been converted into a very airy modern feeling space, but they kept all the varied textures in the old walls that show the history of the place! (Blue bottle Kyoto)
Great to see you getting back into the rhythm so quickly! Looks like you got a lot done in a couple of days, so I have no doubt that you'll get your list done in time!
Jointer/planer - helical heads are WONDERFUL...just saying as you go shopping, you should try/experiment with them before you make a final decision.
It's looking really good Laura!!!
Lieblingssatz ; "Ich kann superschnell Kaffeetrinken!"
Ich auch 😬
It's a good one! She could drink the coffee fast, but the coffee maker was too slow. 😅
Es ist eine nützliche Fähigkeit.
A checklist on cardboard hits close to home. Great video as always Laura, Felix and crew!
Love to see you go the direction of woodworking, I enjoy the craft myself! Very exciting :D
Love the progress. Can't wait until next week.
Awesome!
I love this channel,
I can't believe you are spending summer in LA, when it's the better time for working on the house. Isn't LA sunny all year round? Love seeing you back in the house, but I'm always excited when you go back to LA too.
LA shop idea:
Woodworking
Antique restoration/retrofitting
Electronics prototyping
...
That pale yellow will look perfect next to the gray tile roof. You just make building fun. Just by all the Enthusiasm you show
So close! It’s all coming together. Excited to see the house finished and furniture and the new shop! New adventures.
Yeah! I do woodworking myself and just a got a shop one year, so exciting!! 🎉❤
Everything's always okay, when you just bring snacks 😁👍 thank you for a awsome video, Laura 😁👍
Enjoy this house project. Who looks after your doggy when your in the US? I love him.
Moveing right along, Nicely! Anxious to see the walls done and the rooms defined.
Laura I don't know if you already noticed but your house is turning into a inside out chocolate cake. 🎂
excelente trabajo
I LOVE YOU GUYS SOOOOO MUCH!!! After watching your videos, I feel so powerfully capable of MAKING!!!!
Hazaaah✨Woof
Simply amazing
I wear a basic mask when sweeping that much dust.
In the US just the coffee would be about $15-20 depending on where you get it.
It looks great already! I like the feeling, or the feeling I imation seeing that. Great job to the hole team 👍💞 you have most wet in dry, becous it is easier to ad water than thicken it up.
yay. heat pump!
In my corner of Australia, it would be about $4 for each of those items (maybe $5 for the chocolate roll), so 4 x (3 x 6) = $72 in AUD, which is 44 euros or 47 USD.
Great video. A long story of persistence. Mahalo for sharing! : )
So good!
I'm guessing $30 for the snacks. Your dog must be so happy to see you when you return.
Does anyone else hold their breath when they see Laura her doing something where she should be wearing a mask but isn't??
No, just me? lol

It looks so tiny from the outside, but we know how huge it is on the inside! You’ll be living in the Tardis!!
12:12 Love the music 😂
Thanks for your great vidéo 😁😁
Congrats on Phase II, Laura!
12:14 the music 🎉
Laura Phase 2!! 🎉
Maybe this info is already floating around here on RUclips/the internet/socials, but I wonder what Felix does when Laura is in LA. Maybe do "A day in the life of..."?
great video
Welcome back 👍
Love all the house progress!!!!
You should do a white and black LA logo since you're in both places now too!
RESPECT THE POUCH! RESPECT IT!
Cool
