Distracting destroyers by subs just before the B-17 airstrike was a clever move, i think. I could watch bombing of Battleship again and again. You could also see there that one of the bombs just skip the Ice, just like the other did a bit later.
@Taff in Exile just an interesting fact, the USS Wasp was only built as light and less armored as it was because the United States wanted to use up the remaining tonnage it was allowed to use for the building of aircraft carriers. They didn’t have enough tonnage remaining to build another Yorktown Class Carrier, so they built the Wasp, which is a reduced-size version of the Yorktown Class Carrier hull! But is by no means an escort though! Wasp was initially employed in the Atlantic campaign, where Axis naval forces were perceived as less capable of inflicting decisive damage. After supporting the occupation of Iceland in 1941, Wasp joined the British Home Fleet in April 1942 and twice ferried British fighter aircraft to Malta.
I know there's already a lot of micromanaging to do during surface engagements but when possible would you consider getting a floatplane up to watch the battle from the sky ? The orbit camera angles are fine but they can feel a bit repetitive especially if the engagement takes a while. And an aerial view would give a sense of scale that I think is missing with the orbit cam. Just throwing an idea out there. And also, I'd suggest you take the cheapest carrier and keep her far away from japanese airbases to compensate for the lack of protection Nice and entertaining episode as always :)
The Wasp is lightly armored but you should be actively keeping your carriers away and out of range of threats. I have the Wasp escorted by 2 fletcher DD’s and 2 Atlanta CL’s. As long as you have air patrols around it during the day and move it further away at night you should be fine. Nice episode Taff!
One of the best videos of this series so far, and some excellent progress toward victory in the game! I love that surface action! Looks like you have the hang of damage control, too. Perhaps you're not aware, but since the early February update, the scouting reports of enemy units are no longer exact. The types and quantity of ships are estimates. The same group may be reported differently each separate time it is discovered. If you've already struck a group and caused damage, that can be a good way to track which group you found, but be aware that enemy ships may get additional repairs after leaving tactical combat, so the report might not match what you remember. You can also use the 'P' key to add markers on the map where you last saw a surface unit. I use a small paper pad to list the ships in each group I find and mark them off as they are sunk. It helps a lot.
Excellent Video Taff! In the game fires can be enhanced by wind. Best to bring ships on fire to a full stop (reverse engines for fast stop). Also take control of damage control if your magazines are on fire (your destroyers) and the system is not fighting it.
Excellent episode. Great results.Definitely leave Wasp for now. Either of other carriers are great. Get Atlanta light cruiser(s) points allowing. Has loads of AA and is ASW capable too and as many destroyers as you can.
You know that you can lay smoke screens as well? It´s also a good idea to slow down burning ships for better fire fighting. All in all you are approving your skills.
It will be great to see your carrier come out! As you noted, there is no difference in the offensive capability of the various USN carriers. The Wasp was *not* an escort carrier, she was simply built smaller and lighter to comply with the naval treaty. She is also a bit slower than the other classes. You should do whatever you can to keep your carrier out of surface combat, so her lack of protection should not be an issue, and the command points you save will buy you a more powerful escort. Try to include at least one cruiser with scout planes, like a Brooklyn or Cleveland, because they have better range than scouting with carrier planes. An Atlanta cruiser would also be good because of her outstanding AAA capability, and a destroyer can take on submarines. Consider using a circular formation for best defense. If your carrier is ever attacked, make sure to launch a flight of fighter planes just before entering tactical combat.
Use your destroyers for torpedo attacks on the enemy cruisers. You're keeping them around your big gun group but that just makes them vulnerable to stray shells. They're fast enough to do so.
Bloody well done Taff! That Takao saving itself from submarining was definitely surprising, but what can you do ey? Also, echoing what someone else said in the comments, Remember to put up a flight of fighters from your carrier before entering tactical, as it means there are a flight of fighters to help in its defense.
@Taff in Exile have ever thought about increasing the speed on your aircraft before they run in for their attacks? They’ll probably be faster and therefore will probably be harder to hit! Just helpful thought cause I haven’t seen you utilize it yet! Happy Hunting!
Hey taff I really like your vids on war on the sea, though I may suggest u occupy the Russell islands too, because once you land troops on Guadalcanal, aircraft from the Russell islands will spot any Tokyo express convoys in the slot, what do u think? Or is the island too exposed? Thus this is y u might go for Malaita because it is with in the range of the nearby airfield on Santa Cruz
This game seems to troll you pretty hard sometime! The Takao was in sub mode and then......VOILA,all good again!!! lol By the way,in case you're interested the Ise is pronounced ee say.
I'm trying to set my convoy to two columns but can't do it. I know that I can once a conflict begins I can select all, click on two columns, then form up. However the next time I enter combat, it has reverted to a single line. I make certain that my convoy is formed up in two columns before leaving the previous conflict, but entering the next combat, we're back in single file. Any suggestions?
Has the enemy's torpedo weaponry (from submarines or aircraft) been a specific problem so far? If the enemy has not been utilizing torpedos than perhaps our side could go with the Wasp class? The shelling footage (30-ish min.) was intense!
there have been a number of torp attacks from subs over the episodes, I think the CA Northampton was lost to torps....its just feels a big investment to loose
“Ise”: “Ee-say”… For me, the spectator time is wasted by watching any ship sink on Gloatscreen footage, with the bubbles, the creaking, the groaning, etc. Also, watching a flaming Jake or Kingfisher get followed AAALLLL the way down from 10,000 feet for a splash. I assume that gamers would like to compress as much information into as limited time a span as possible…
Taff the long camera focus on ship getting shelled & sink is very satisfied to watch, good job
Agreed!

Can't get enough of this series, Taff. Well done
The IJN has taken a right kicking this episode

Get the Enterprise! It's the most famous U.S. aircraft carrier of the war.
R U KIDDING ME?????? That Takao recovered? And of course the Army Air Corps takes credit for sinking of the Takao!
talk about damage control
i know right

Yeah, a floatplane would make the battle seem more authentic and chaotic, which they were. I keep forgetting how crazy the night actions were.
I hope you choose the yorktown class, and primarily the USS Enterprise. 😊
Taff you are the man!!! Love this series,if I could I would give multiple thumbs up!!

Well done, Admiral Taff! You're really starting to hand out some serious pain to the IJN now. Keep up the good work!
Swell mission great work.
After you are done with this series you should try the Tokyo express mod and the operation magazine mod they are both a lot of fun
LOL! That cruiser that was part submarine!

The Wasp was my first Carrier she was a good old Girl served me well!
SKIP bombing that last run - skipped right over the target. Did manage to kill a school of Mackerel on the other side.
that was a school of tuna

Enjoyed this very much.
Another great episode. Would it not help if you split of your destroyers and tried to herd the enemy with there torpedos.
Best thing to be released today
Tide of war seems to be in your favour.... at last !!
Another great video, thank you Taff
Grab the yorktown, legendary ship that one was
I would love to see one of the Saratoga class (like the Lexington)
Enterprise!!!
Yes
Bring in the Big E! Yorktown class CV.
Were it me, I'd probably get a Wasp class and then a couple smaller ships to add to that task force
After this campaign you need to try the Tokyo express mod. It adds so much more to the game.
Are IJN CVLs and CVEs included in both game and mod?
@@mikhailiagacesa3406 Japan does get CVLs but America does not get CVEs. I could be wrong though, I am not sure.

Hey, i think you can strafe with the B-17's. ? maybe give it a go to finnish them off. if it works.
Like the diversion attack by subs pulling destroyers away from the BS & HC so B17 got less AA against them
I'm wondering when an IJN CV of any type shows up. What was the reason for the victorious turn-around, Taff? Love those aerial views.

I have a question do you have the Standard Battleships = SBB's in your game or just the BB's for choices in battleships to recruit?
Grand Fleet Admiral
Do you plan on making more b17 mighty eighth videos?
